Aside from being charged 50 bucks for an IP or getting ppoe errors on peak, its up. Had ran miserably for a couple years but now it seems ok. Not worth the 60 bucks a month compared to what I get at Charter, but when your a monopoly telco, you can do that to the consumer and I need a backup connection if my main cable modem were ever down..

| Same terrible service here! After 6 hours of holding to get to AT&T's DSG group (the only techs that they have) and two missed tech visits, I'm still fluctuating between 1.5 and 2.5 MBPS on download. Here is what you can expect 1) A tedious game with the AT&T voice call director 2) Bad Musk for 3-4 minutes 3) Person comes on line and asks you for the same info that you just gave the call director 4) They "test" the DLS and probably will not see anything' 5) After demanding that there is a problem, they will most likely put you on hold while they get DSG on line. 6) More REALLY terrible Musk 7) Every 2 minutes the person will come on line and say "I'm still trying to get DSG" and they put you on hold again This went on the first call for 45 minutes and finally the lady said "I'll get them on line and will call you back". Never happened. The second call, same as 1-7, but sat on hold for over 1 hour, 15 minutes. "Ill give you a call back". Never happened. Third call, I escalated to a manager (I found that she was not a manager after escalating again, I got to a 1st level manager. Basically the same thing, but she did call back and scheduled a tech again. I did get an employee number for this manager and a promise to call me back in two days to see if it was resolved. The tech was supposed to be here from 8-12 AM, called my cell at 8:00 AM saying he was on the way out within 30 minutes. By 10:30, I called his cell back and he said he had already been here (????) I was here all morning waiting and never saw or heard him. He said it looked good to the outside of the house. I know better. After threatening to disconnect the service, he agreed to return at 12:30 PM to look at it again.
This is REAL service! Let me give you a contact person if you are having trouble'

I'm in the process of taking out my AT&T DSL and installing Roadrunner. Hope it's not the same crap as I am experiencing here. Good luck. | |

I have naked DSL which is nice, but there are some drawbacks. With AT&T, you cant do online payment with naked DSL(which I dont understand). Although the connection is great for surfing the net and Email. I have recently become aware of streaming movies and music, this connection puts an obvious strain on the transfer rate. But for the money and easy of setup and use, AT&t naked dsl is very worth it for now.

I tried higher speed transmission, but actually recieved a lesser speed than current, so I reverted back to my current speed of 3000/500 for $30. The order process was very easy and installation response was immediate.I was supplied a Motorola 2210 modem which performs as well as any I have tried. The ONLY bad experience was my attempt to upgrade to the higher speed and the result was a lesser speed. The technician was unable to resolve the problem so I reverted back to the lesser (but actually higher) speed.

"Look somewhere else for your DSL, CS is horrid, 30 minutes on phone to open trouble ticket, hold, hold, hold"

Their uptime is better than cable, latency too, except very recently as they have been sneaking around prepping the uverse, since then I get disconnected daily with sync issues, latency has doubled, speed has dropped over 15%, which I have monitored since day one. I am paying $45 for Ultra and I cannot exceed 1.2mps down or 200 up, paying premium for bargain basement DSL is what I have been doing. I don't call ever, unless their is an issue, I waited through horrific July and it improved however the slowness, lag, latency, and connection issues along with 30 minute call times and poor customer service are pushing me to vote with my feet and leap to Clear WiMax. I also signed up when they had a rebate offer, jumped through their hoops and nearly a year never recieved the promised rebate, hence the upcoming complaint with the FTC for unfair and misleading practices.

"Seems solid and sync always up so far."
"Penalty pricing, no promotional offers if you don't get POTS.(pay higher rate, you don't get promo cash back for switching, etc)"
"It's DSL, and it works. Nothing fancy. IMHO it's too expensive for what you get."

I'm back on AT&T DSL after a couple years with Cox. I am now using a "Dry-loop" DSL product only, no POTS. This causes no end of fits with AT&T's website.
The process was easy, I tried to use the website to sign up but had to call due to the sans POTS part of the deal.
It was automatic, they shipped me the modem, and they turned on the service.
Annoyances: AT&T had been bombarding me to switch to them with offers of cash back, rebates etc. However they refused to provide any for just Internet--- they push DSL with POTS only. Plus they charged me for the modem I didn't want or need (they insisted) and they charge a penalty price, a higher monthly rate, for daring to NOT want POTS.
Since I was trying to save money, this is annoying. DSL is still cheaper then Cox, however.....
I'm also having some issues with speed consistency. Not sure why. Line is always up, which is a whole lot more then I can say for Cox. Pings are decent.
IMHO It's pretty expensive for what you get. AT&T really should consider boosting DSL speeds, especially on the upload side, and shouldn't expect $45+ a month for 6mbps down/640k up. The news that AT&T is testing metered billing is also a big, big minus.

I have had ATT DSL for many years. This means that over time I have had my service cut off many times for unknown reasons and many more times for known (but strange reasons).
I added a phone line to my service a few months ago and as an added bonus my DSL service was cut off. When I convinced them to start it back up (this had to be done from scratch) they put it on the wrong line (there were only 2 lines). More recently I added a wireless line to my account and as an added bonus my DSL elite was kicked back to regular DSL without the reduction in cost and after going through 45 minutes of tech support they finally conceded what I had asserted from the first minute that they screwed up.
If there was another low cost way to fast broadband I would take it. As it is, I will just enjoy my service until some numskull in the CO disconnects me again for some odd reason.

I considered BlueSky and Harris satellite service while we worked on getting ATT DSL service working here. Harris (Dish Net) offered only dialup upload speeds--no way. BlueSky was ~80 per month. Since DSL was offered at $29.95 and up, we persevered through the incredibly poor service calls, phone support, and slow installation. We got basic service after ~3 weeks of waiting because we asked for Pro DSL (3Mbps down, 512kbps up) but they said our line wouldn't support it. So after suffering through this for a couple of weeks, I called their new accounts people and asked for an upgrade. "Not possible with your location" Then I insisted that they try it, offering to pay for a whole month at Pro rates even if it didn't work. Finally after 3 calls I got to someone in Tier 3 who would let me TRY. They made the change to their servers and we are now at 2.6Mbps down/450kbps up. This is pretty good, so we are sticking with it for now, but I am trying to squeeze more out of the Bitsurfer 2210 modem with tweaks.

When I first signed up for AT&T dry DSL, the service was $29 a month for a 3mbit line. That line might've been a little slow for 2007, but it was dead reliable (I believe it only went down once or twice over the time I had it), and the price was really unbeatable.
Then the prices changed! Mine seemed to hang at $34 for a while, even though talk of a $40 service plan was looming. Meanwhile, I found out AT&T U-Verse was selling 6mbit standalone service for $35 a month.. hrmm!
After a failed U-Verse install (too far from the vrad), I was without internet for 10 days, the soonest possible time AT&T could schedule an install for the DSL (again, ergh). When that was done, I had already had cable internet started up.. I called to inquire about the install (I much preferred the DSL and crappy service to a really expensive cable bill), and here's what happened:
Despite being a loyal customer for ages, and trying to get their new service - despite having no internet for 10 days with them, they were going to charge me $44 a month for 1.5mbit service.
$44!!!! WTF?! That's ridiculous!
I canceled that all the way back in may and they still can't make up their mind whether they owe me money or I owe them money!
