I've found powweb to be a very stable and reliable hosting service offering many features that often exceed but always meet my requirements.

Plan details:
• 300 GB Disk Space
• 3000 GB/mo Bandwidth
• Unlimited Mailboxes
• 75 MySQL Databases
• Site/Database Backups
• Load-Balancing
• InstallCentral
• 24/7 A+ Support

10/1/06 a few months back, powweb underwent some major platform changes. I think this was due to new ownership. Their service during this transition sucked. I had problems with my site, subwebs, and email resulting to their errors and it often took several days before they got me to somebody who would actually read my email and understand the issue. More often, I got a canned reply from an idiot who didn't read my mail. I'm still with them now, but if something like this happens again, I'll be looking for a new hosting service...

5/26/07 *Update
No other problems since the last one, though they wanted to change my email to bounce all "eronious" emails to my domain. I stopped this because I use several alias accounts when registering for memberships, list services, contests, etc. e.g. if I sign up to receive email notifications from CigarsInternational, I use ci@mydomainname.org and then I know if they share my email info.

6/15/08 Update
Live telephone support reps are pretty good! Email support flat out sucks. They don't read my email well enough to answer the questions and usually don't answer all the questions asked.

Some of the features mentioned above have changed:
»www.powweb.com/powweb/ho ··· ting.bml

• What other options did you consider for broadband
• What SPEED/package did you order, at what monthly price?
• How was the order & install process?
• What brand/model was the supplied equipment?
• What good or bad experiences most struck you?

2/17/09 No change.

4/26/11 Still happy with their service.

none
Used Powweb for 3 years with very few problems

My Powweb website is simple to medium in complexity, and I don't utilize a database even though www.Powweb.com has free databases. I do rely heavily on PERL scripting, some Javascript, plus I have a lot of images, and get a fair amount of traffic, over 1 million hits per year, but that is mainly because I have a lot of small images in the main header.

I started out using Frontpage, and Powweb works well with FP, but Frontpage creates large slow loading bloated pages. I switched to editing text HTML only, and conforming to strict W3C if possible, and I have no problems with editing TEXT either plus my load speeds have increased since I started conforming to W3C.

I have used the fee Powweb automatic backups a few times and it worked for me to recover 1 or 2 files that I botched. They worked smoothly both times.

I use FTP all the time almost every day and it works great, I cannot recall ever having an issue with FTP on Powweb.

I used tech support a couple times. One was a major issue about 3 years ago when they had just been purchased and were going through a major transition, since then things have gone very smooth for my site. I did have to reload my site from my own backup at that time, but again, that was because I was using Frontpage and I was not able to login with Frontpage. I knew that there might be an issue when they were going through that transition so I had manually backed up my own site. Tech support at that time was fast and knew what they were doing. I have not had a Frontpage issue since I reloaded.

Powweb has a really great active user forum that I enjoy, but I think it is slightly censored by the host if you mention competition (but I don't blame them for that), but nothing that has ever hampered me. I have asked a few questions on the forum and someone always answers within a day. The forum is one of the main reasons I joined Powweb, because I can usually figure stuff out on my own with a little research, or nudge, and the forum has great ideas too. There are users that complain on the forum, but what forum have you ever been on that doesn't have that. Seriously, I would not switch from Powweb, they have been great for my budget, and give me all that I need in a website.

For sure I would recommend Powweb for a simple to medium complex site. If you do decide to use Powweb then please click through here »www.ameshigh.org/host/po ··· web.html for whatever monthly deal Powweb may have and you will help out my non-profit site too.

10GB/day transfer, inexpensive
no cpanel, small amount of downtime, doesn't take paypal.
I like it!

I signed up around mid January of this year and paid $186 USD for 38 months of service, so that's $4.90/month which is dirt cheap in my eyes. They also raised the daily transfer limit from 5GB to 10GB so now I get (in theory) 300GB/month transfer.

There is no cpanel as they have their own controls which do take some getting used to if you're coming from a cpanel background, not that their controls are better or worse (that i've seen yet) but just different.

There was some downtime awhile back but it was short (a couple hours if memory serves) and I can't even remember what it was caused by now. Needless to say it didn't inconvenience me that I know of.

The biggest issue I had was that they don't accept paypal as payment so I had to mail them a cheque. Paypal would have been much easier and quicker too.

But I am very pleased with the service and product and would recommend powweb to others.
