Eastlink has the best tech support I've ever experienced. I used to use Aliant but they were slow and my connection was dropped at least once a week.

Very inconsistent. I have --almost everyday--speeds from 2500-16000kbps downloads.

"I recommend it"

First tried service with the Bell related local telephone company (Aliant), but became very dissatisfied with that.
    Switched to Eastlink Cable
The highspeed connection with Aliant had been fast. The Cable connection flashed. Downloads that are expected to take ten minutes take one or two.

The only bad experience has been some problems with my billing setup for my telephone system.

This is the better provider in Nova Scotia for high speed downloads.

As others have said, the tech support/customer service works on a "sorry, but no" basis. Only way to get any kind of "yes" response is to talk to a manager, or the managers manager. When I first started getting charged, they were double billing me and initially refused to reinburse me for the second billing! (settled it now, finally)

My main problem with eastlink is if you do any kind of online gaming, there is not enough upstream to host a game. In some games (ex. Formula One:CE for PS3) if you get designated as host (you don't get to choose), the game will start but it will fail shortly thereafter. In Warhawk for PS3, you get tested before you can host a game, and this is a game that supports up to 32 players. I can not host a game larger than 10 players. Most people can do at least 24. Some 32.

I use bittorrent legally to get the YDL Linux for ps3 (freeware). Eastlink throttles bittorrent so bad I was lucky to break the 10KB/s barrier on my upstream. It took days to download what should have taken hours (they throttle download too). I know they are throttling because once I started using encrypted transfers, the speed started to rise to what seems to be a blanket upstream cap of 30KB/s. I know torrents only perform as well as the swarm, but it was obvious throttling after downloading it 5 times from different trackers.

In any event. Download good (except torrents), Upload bad.

Eastlink so far has been great. I had some issues last year with a sevre bottleneck problem that was never looked into - hense thier customer service is a bit whacky in halifax.

Outside Halifax customer service is great. They will make house calls when ever they need to.

My speeds are always high, but in some cases torrents can realy clog the connections creating a bottleneck of no return!

Overall I would never choose Aliant over Eastlink.

Always on, no need to connect, uses normal protocols.

They are always trying to improve thier services... Too bad they didn't improve thier customer service...

Kentville,NS
$64 per month
"Extreme speed, I'm getting well over 10mbps on any speedtest"
"Customer service is very lacking and somewhat uncaring. Latency is a bit of an annoyance"
"Great service with few actual issues with the speeds or efficiency, but Eastlink needs to fire its callcenter staff."

I've had no problems with eastlinks 10mbps package, getting anywhere from 9mbps to 12.25mbps on most tests with downloads and an xbox 360 going on it. Latency has been a bit of an issue where contacting servers in other countries has given me a great deal of lag.

Customer service at eastlink is a farce. I called to have my services moved to another location in the same area, within maybe a 15 minute drive. They charged me an additional installation fee, and tried to charge me for two months of internet. I demanded that they apply a credit, so they applied a one month credit to my account, I still end up paying over $140 for installation and the first month at the new location. What a load of crap. Then the woman had the audacity to say "This is how our system works, I cant explain it any better, your going to have to pay this much to have your services moved. We have to open a new account"

Let me tell you that any other ISP ive been with will transfer services for free...its a customer care thing that helps weave a good relationship. Come to think of it, all the technician did was plug the modem into the wall and screw on the cable, went out to the box and flipped a switch, christ i could have done that myself.

    10Mb Internet

They just released 15mb internet. Anyone who is on 10Mb HSI will be transitioned to the 15Mb plan by the 16th. Very nice I say.

"Excellent Speed, Good Tech Support"
"Email and Newsgroups go offline from time to time -no explanation"
"Excellent Service"

We have Dial up, EastLink and Aliant in our area, with Bell Sat Service if you're a real masochist. Aliant is capped at between 1500 and 2000K, where Eastlink is minimum 10000k even during the busiest periods. I have received of 12000k - witness my test results.
