Everest Communications (everestkc.com)
Almost perfect. Best communications company I have ever used.
Customer SERVICE answers phone calls with a HUMAN being. Tech help is available in 30 seconds to 2 minutes for WinTel, Macintosh, Linux.
5.0 Mbps advertised downstream is easily achieved even during peak usage times; I have recorded off peak DLs to 6.5 Mbps sustained for 3-10 seconds. Upstream of 384 kbps is also accurate.
Installation in old house with wiring from previous cable company caused problems. But hardly fault of Everest.
One negative: only 3 email accounts.

ALERIGHT!! Everest upgraded every ones bandwidth for no reason what so ever. My friends and I were at my house for TekLan3 2004, and we were all talking about how our download speeds had gone from around 300-350 ish to 450-500
Ok! Everest is still a local company but they're expanding fast. It started in Kansas, Johnson County. Its good cheap 3.0 megabit cabel. at 40$ a month for the fastest cable you cant go wrong. Plus when they come to install you're cabel they also hooked up a cabel line to every single TV in the house. So now the I dont have to live only watch tv down stairs or in the master bedroom. Its now in the kitchen, and living room.

For $99 a month, I get extremely fast broadband Internet, three email addresses, standard cable TV w/digital tier and HBO, Showtime, etc., fiber-optic local phone service, and now HDTV for $5/mo extra. Of course, my wife has to have all the premium movie channels, which runs the bill up some from there, but it's still cheap.
This plus virtually no downtime, instant customer service by a real person, and regular speeds almost always in the 4Mbps - 5Mbps range. You can't beat Everest with a stick - much better than RoadRunner and SBC dsl. There aren't many companies like this around these days.
There's no imposed speed limit - you get as fast as the equipment can deliver.

I've had Everest about 2 years now with never a problem. They wired my entire house for use with TV, Telephone and Internet. There was no charge for the installation (at that time) and it is a large house. Their service for everything is absolutely superb, and they care when you call. The price for their total broadband package is very reasonable. I've had numerous ISPs thorough the years and have been a senior professional in computers since the seventies. Never, have I seen an ISP with the all around, overall, quality of Everest Communications. I feel extremely fortunate to have this incredible service in our small city. No, I do not work for Everest, I am just a happy customer like all of us here in this area fortunate enough to have Everest available for broadband.

I was told I could get local Phone and 1.5MB Cable for $50. My first bill arrived and I was hit by $150 installation charge and cost of cable modem, I figured hey its a one time deal and didn't bother with it. I also noticed I was being charged for a 3MB Cable. I called them they apologized and they said they fix it and told me I didn't have to pay that amount. They reduced my internet speed down to 256K without informing me, on my next bill it showed I owed them money from last month claiming I had the 3MB service. I called them up again and asked why my speed was reduced and why I was being charged the wrong amount again. They assured me again it well be taken care of and I can pay over the phone right then so I did. Everything was fine for couple months then again they start charging me for 3MB service. That time I went up to there office to see whats going on they told me I had asked them to change my service and they had moved me up to 3MB recently. I explained that I had not done so but they wouldn't have it so I closed my account then. Overall the speed is very close to what they promise, the connection works %90 of time.

I went from SWB DSL, to Earthlink to RoadRunner and really was never pleased with their total package. I switched to the all-in-one digital package "Totally Wired" (290 channel digital cable tv/music (i didn't want the Premium channels they offered), local AND long distance phone, Trailblazer3 ISP and UNIX webhosting) for a $60/month savings compared to the same from the other services. My max speed I have seen on the ISP is 4.9 mbits with an average of 3.6 mbits! I mean blow me away! Install was a breeze, I had a faulty receiver box, they exchanged it same day! Tech support has been good and is getting better. My only complaint is if they go down, which I have seen maybe once for 30 minutes in the last year, there is no dial-up option, nor do they offer wireless. Otherwise, WOW. And this is all done with fiber!

I get the strangest looks when I tell others that I'm getting 3+ mbps from my broadband provider. They then comment that I must be paying a huge hunk of cash for the service. When I tell them it's 39.95 they are startled that I'm paying less than they are and getting in some cases more than 4 times the performance.
When I became aware of Everest, they were expanding in the Johnson County area. From talking to friends that got the service, I couldn't wait to have them lay the cable and turn on the service. From the day that they announced abailability in the area (they were laying fiber all over the place) to the day I went live was 3 days.
The install was a piece of cake. As I was having the full cable, phone and broadband service installed, the technician ran the cable over to my network cabinet then handed me the cable modem (provided). I plugged in the lan side, then the wan, powered it up. The first thing I did was hit DSL Reports. 3875 kbps!! He asked if that was ok?
Service has been one of the better parts of the deal as well. I remember while on SBC DSL, I would regularly wait for upwards of an hour to talk to level 1 support who would ask if I could turn the ethernet cable around. Getting to level 2 was a joke. With Everest, I have had to wait for the phone to ring no more than 3 times, and guess what..a real person who has enough knowledge to solve most problems. I did get escalated to level 2 once. It seems that there was a problem with a piece of their field equipment. The level 2 rep called me back in 15 minutes of me reporting the call. He couldn't immediately solve the problem, but the next day at work, he called me to let me know that Everest was going to make an equipment repair that night at 1AM and I should see my problem resolved by 6AM the next morning. (My problem was that my speed was cut from 3 mbps to 1.4 mbps). Not bad service to be kept in the loop.
This has to be one of the best values in the area for the money spent. If you have a chance to sign up.. run don't walk. You'll be glad you did.

I was very pleased when I was alerted that Everest would be installing lines in my area. I had already heard wonderful reviews from my friends at school, so I told my parents to sign us up for a line. The beauty of Everest is the custom packagin they provide. We got the 3mbps cable line, the local phone, and the cable tv packages(note:we didn't get long distance because my father works for sprint, so we get it for free). From day 1 the line has never lost it's connection. I have been constantly running at at least 2.8mbps everyday, which I feel is close enough to their advertised rates. The only complaint I have is the newsgroup issue identified in my bad points. I used to constantly use newsgroups instead of other more common P2P programs. When I found out i was limited to 500MB per day than I was forced to use Kazaa, SoulSeek, etc. Overall though Everest has been wonderful to me. I fully recommend this ISP to anyone who has the option.
