I have a 1000x1000kbps through my home owner's association since I live in a condo complex. I almost never get to this speed, Digis uses some wireless technology that in my experience is so much worse than DSL. The connection is very slow for streaming, latency is too high and fluctuates so much that gaming is almost impossible, and downloads are sometimes as bad as dial-up. It's really hard to find anything good to say about Digis. Maybe the only thing is that the customer service techs try to be helpful and have a good attitude, but the company, technology and service are so bad that I'm thinking of going back to DSL I would still have to pay for Digis through my condo fees, but I'm so fed up I might do that and try to lobby my condo association to get another ISP. Skip Digis, you'd be better off with DSL or Cable. member for 17.6 years, 65 visits, last login: 16.1 years ago updated 16.1 years ago
I've had Digis for a little over a year now. I originally went with them because they had the lowest of all WISPs in the valley, and had a 100% rebate over a few months. At the time RapidWave was too steep with the setup fee, and I'd heard nothing but nightmares about the city-provided DSL. I did hear a little about some other providers, but not enough to sell me on them. Digis seemed to be bigger and had a better startup deal. -- this is where the praise stops. Let me preface by saying I do a LARGE amount of work via VPN and remote desktops. I require high-speed access that is consistent and reliable. In the 14 months I've been with Digis, I've NEVER seen even half the speed they advertise (signed up for the 7mb service -- rarely see it above 2, averages at 1). I've sent many emails regarding this, even had them re-aim my antenna twice. They've told me I have a perfect signal in both directions so there's no reason I shouldn't have full speed. They also throttle bandwidth on a daily basis. I still don't know what the cap is -- though I've heard it's 3gb. If I'd known this limitation I would never have signed up. When they do throttle you, it seems like it's at 128k max, and they don't inform you when you're being throttled. It also seems they've oversaturated their network... come 6pm it slows from the already slow pace to unusable, and remains so till around 11pm. I've been told they're increasing infrastructure equipment to help with the load. I have no clue if they ever installed it, but if they have it's made no difference. The support team can be very rude. I admit to being a bit angry on the phone a few times -- but if they would deliver a satisfying service I wouldn't have to call. I'm switching to RapidWave tomorrow. The setup fee isn't as bad as it used to be (was $300, now $169). They're a bit more monthly, but they don't throttle or cap bandwidth. A couple friends use them and have had much better luck -- hoping to get some of that myself. For reference I've both attached an example speed test. This is typical of what I'm getting. »/im/43 ··· 6528.png Update: So I called to cancel my account with Digis and found out some more unsettling information: They charge $35 to come remove their equipment from your house and they don't prorate already billed/collected payments. The equipment removal fee sucks, but it's cheaper than buying a ladder (my roof is unaccessible without one), but not proprating a refund? I was billed on 1/6/08 for Jan '08's service. I called on 1/9/08 to cancel. They told me the service would be immediately terminated, but the WON'T refund me back a prorated amount even though I'm not using the service. I offered to pay them $3.88 ($40 / month (31 days), 3 days = $3.88), they told me it wasn't their policy to do so. I'm refuting charges, filing a BBB complaint and delivering a check for $3.88. If they charge me for anything else, I'll refute that too. Any bill sent will be returned. If they keep harassing me beyond that, I'll sick Bill Gephardt on them I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND DIGIS TO MY WORST ENEMY. As an aside, I've had RapidWave for about 24 hours now. I'm already experiencing speeds that are at least 3x faster than the best I EVER had with Digis, and I'm paying for a "slower" service. The only thing negative I can say about RapidWave is they interfere with BitTorrent transfers, but that is to be expected with WISP. I used Digis for almost 5 years. For most of that time, I was very satisfied, and recommended them to tons of people. For a long time, connections speeds were good, and always seemed to be improving, customer service, although not stellar, was always satisfactory, and the value was excellent. Fast forward to about 1 and 1/2 years ago. I started at that point to get all kinds of connection problems. My mother, who had also used Digis for some time, also started having connection issues. She works for the State of Utah, and her job depends upon a solid web connection. For about 1 year she had no issues with Digis, then suddenly, she started having tons of problems. When she would call tech support, they would always blame her or her equipment (i.e. router) and pretty much end it there. She left them, and has gotten a lot more work done. I remained with them for one important reason, they gave me a public IP address for just $5 more per month (although I've asked both qwest and comcast multiple times about the possibility of getting a public IP from them, no one seems to know, and I never get an answer). However, in November 2007, Digis committed the unpardonable. They started throttling bandwidth after 350 mb per day. I called them up to complain stating that I've had windows updates that were larger than that, and that it was a short sighted policy. They simply offered a plan that didn't throttle based on daily usage, but allowed 12 gb per month, and $5 for every gig over. All I heard was limits for me, and money for them. Although no one from Digis will ever admit it, the reason they suck now is because they started buying up every other WISP in the area, and simply don't have the resources to manage them at all. My suggestion, don't bite off more than you can chew DIGIS!! Anyway, I used to like Digis. This was originally done several years ago, and I've returned to amend it. I new use Rapidwave (Yeah, no limits at all, much faster and way more reliable, and a free public IP address for my web hosting needs). Thanks Rapidwave for being my internet salvation. By Digis. RIP. Old Post from 2 1/2 years ago (when Digis was good): I have had Digis for over two years now. Why? Because it rocks. In fact, It's been so good, I had it installed at my business too (the only other option I had there was ISDN through Qwest, very expensive, very slow, very poor). Digis has been phenomenal. I get Around 1.2 mbps download and 600 kbps upload. Sure there are faster speeds, but not for $25/month (if they exist, let me know). I do get very occasional outages (at most twice per month) and most last only minutes. Service is very reliable and tech support is always helpful. I signed up when I had no other options, but don’t think I would switch even if other options came up. It’s that good of service. My only complaint is the $5 / Gig over 3 Gb monthly usage. I often exceed my 3 Gb. Would love to see them offer unlimited bandwidth at same price. Service was so reliable, I set it up at my business in American Fork over a year ago. Only had one problem there. For about two weeks, had very poor service requiring multiple tech support calls. After two weeks, I got a call from tech support. They discovered that a firmware update to their equipment caused the poor service. They went back to former hardware drivers, and have had no problems since. And guess what, I didn’t get charged a penny for any calls or service since it was a problem on their end. I have only had service call once at my home in two years. My equipment was updated and cost only $35. Not bad really considering the costs at other ISPs. I quite honestly can’t understand the poor reviews here expect that people who have complaints are generally louder than satisfied customers. If you have no other broadband options, get Digis. If you have other broadband options, still get Digis. It’s the best. Equipement cost around $400 is a little pricey. However, when compared with the monthly saving over comcast, after 2 years I'm hundreds of dollars ahead. member for 18.4 years, 4 visits, last login: 15.4 years ago updated 16.2 years ago
I was with On-Digital for three years and had great service. They sold out to Digis and we have had nothing but trouble ever since. Service went down and it took two weeks to get a service person here to install the new canopy antenna. It has been one month since and the whole time I've had very unreliable connection speeds sometimes as slow as 9KB and sometimes as high a 4MB it varies so much I had to get a backup service with Qwest DSL. I have been on the phone with Digis multiple times about the connection speed. They told me it was my router, but the router works fine when I use the Qwest DSL - I get the speeds promised. With Digis it's all over the place. This morning our antenna was down again and I was told the soonest someone can come out is 1 week away. On Digital service was within 24 hours. I told Digis I would come and get the new antenna and install it myself if they don't have enough help. They refused. They said I could pay the EXTRA monthly fee of $40.00 per month and get their Rapid Response service, and have someone here in three days instead of seven. I would NOT recommend Digis to anyone. Can anyone recommend a good high speed service provider for the Salem Utah area? member for 16.4 years, 1 visits, last login: 16.2 years ago lodged 16.4 years ago
In my two year history with Digis, I've had a number of bad experiences. First of all, I requested a copy of my contract shortly after signing up and still haven't ever received one. I contacted Customer Support via email and telephone with this request and then talked to our salesman, who assured us that he would send us a copy. Still no contract. Customer Support has been pretty awful. I once sent four emails with no response. I then threatened to contact the BBB if they didn't answer my simple inquiry and (surprise, surprise) someone emailed me back. And was very unhelpful. I asked why my connection was so slow and the guy told me to try disconnecting from my router. I have no router. He had no other input. Some days I have to reset the connection three or more times to get a decent signal. Recently, I called regarding the $400 equipment I purchased when I signed up. As we are thinking of moving, I asked whether they had a buyback program of some sort. Of course the answer was no. He suggested that we include the receiver as a perk when selling our home. Some perk. Helps Digis, does not help me OR the potential buyer. I wouldn't recommend this "service" to anyone. UPDATE (9/15/07): After YET ANOTHER service call to Digis about our speeds, they upgraded our equipment from Hi-Fi to a canopy. After two months, our service still hadn't improved, so we called in again. They told us that they were throttling our speed because we were using too much bandwidth. After explaining that that was impossible (they claimed we used 12 Gig in ONE DAY), they said we must have a virus. First of all, I'd run a virus scanner and we had no viruses. Secondly, we have a Mac, which means we are very unlikely to get viruses at all. Obviously they just didn't know what they were talking about. I cancelled our service that day and now we are very happy with our new ISP, Rapidwave. Instead of the 500k we were getting with Digis, we're getting between 6 and 8 Mbps. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of Digis!! member for 17.1 years, 1 visits, last login: 16.5 years ago updated 16.5 years ago
We have been with Digis since they purchased RadioBurst about a year ago. Speed: let's put it this way; my daughter can't watch a freaking five minute cartoon on NickJr.com without it stopping and starting several times. We have had countless tech support issues, equipment issues, mail, ftp issues, etc. They have been equally horrible at addressing all of them. When you call in to tech support as I did twice today, you will be on hold before someone answers the phone for maybe 10 minutes or 20 minutes. If you are transferred, you run a high risk of getting "disconnected". No one who answers the phone will be able to help you at all. They will tell you an engineer will look at the problem and he is not in the office (because apparently there's only one?) and he will call you back... some day. They won't call you back and no one will follow up. When you call back for the 50th time and finally get to talk to a technical guy, they usually site the reason for the problem which can take weeks to resolve to be related to someone getting fired and either steeling a server that was on the floor in someone's office or that guy being the only one with the administrative password to the server so now they have to move everything to another server, etc, etc. And if you didn't believe that, then the FTP server is also controlled by a MySQL server which has no value as far as explanations are concerned. On crappy service and completely incompetent support alone I would not recommend Digis. member for 16.6 years, driveby review (so far) updated 16.6 years ago
These guys don't have enough bandwidth to support their existing customer base. When they started promoting their VOIP they started throttling everyone so they could handle the VOIP traffic. I'd recommend testing your through-put if you are a Digis customer. Chances are you are being throttled way below what you're supposed to be getting. I'm paying for up to 7Mbps and I've been getting 500kbps for months. VOIP would be out of the question for me. member for 16.9 years, driveby review (so far) lodged 16.9 years ago
I placed an order for the 7Mb service (5Mb down/2Mb up) on Tuesday. System was up and running on Saturday. Basic price for the 7Mb service is $34/month. You have to rent the equipment at $5/month. They only tax you on the equipment rental ~$0.30/month. Initial setup costs $139 but you get an instant $40 mail in rebate and after 3 months get another $99 mail in rebate. So basically as long as you stay with them for 3 months installation is free. They also credited me for the first month of service ($34). Speeds are very close to rated speeds. I regularly get 4700-4950kbps download and 2100-2300kbps upload. Ping times to the access point on the mountain are between 10-15ms. Full ping times to internet sites are between 70-90ms. The only issue I've had with digis is making a phone connection with them. You call in and get to the point of having someone answer and I head about the first 1-2 words and then the phone cuts out and dies. You end up trying 5-6 times and finally you get connected. When you do get connected there are times when one side or the other will cut out and you can't hear each other. This has nothing to do with the quality of the internet service they provide but does make reporting issues a problem. Luckily I haven't had to report any issues yet. member for 23.8 years, 69 visits, last login: 12.6 years ago lodged 17.1 years ago
I will add my sad story to the growing list of dissatisfied customers of DIGIS. I am located in Highland Ut and originally subscribed to WavePoint for wireless broadband about 6 months ago. DIGIS was able to purchase WavePoint about two or three months ago and I became a customer of DIGIS. Immediately after the switch my throughput speeds dropped. Calls and emails to support went unanswered until I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. They sent someone out and realigned my dish for a slight improvement in speed, but still less than half the advertised speed. Two weeks later my network connection dropped. When I called because again my emails were ignored, I was given to 2nd tier support who promised to work on my problem. I called again later in the day and was told that he would work on it over the weekend. I called again on Saturday and was told there was a problem with my subnet and it would be down indefinitely. Three days later service was restored(nearly a week after the disruption). Now it seems my VOIP service was disabled by the fix to the network. My VOIP router works fine from my office but not from home. I am waiting again for customer support after three unanswered emails. The wait on the support line is usually an hour and then someone who doesn't know much about anything tells you to power cycle everything before you can talk to 2nd tier. I think it would be easy for someone to take over the wireless broadband market in North Utah County. It is criminal what guys are calling a "service". At least I didn't get hammered with their outrageous hardware fees. (review was emailed from domain tooley.org) lodged 17.3 years ago
If youre a part time internet user and you want to be able to check email and genealogy its fine. However if like me you want to actually use a consistent connection chose someone else. I've been on the service for well over a year and I've had great experiences till I actually tried to start using it for anything important. My problems were as follows: 1. I purchased a static IP to try and connect to my computer from out in the world. Yea right, service is so unreliable I can't keep a connection going. (Something I've been able to use with EVERY OTHER ISP ON THE PLANET). I Requested not to be billed for this which after 6 months hasn't been resolved. 2. Called today to talk about why my connection was going down. HAHAH they said sir you've purchased a 1mb burstible line. I said ... Ummm ok what does that have to do with a reliable connection. Well basically they said at that point that they can't guarantee my connection status without upgrading my equipment. But wait?? I just spent $300.00 on this equipment just over a year ago. Well this is new and better equipment he said. They are going to come out and install the new equipment now however now I have to pay an additional $5.00 a month for "equipment rental WHAT A GREAT WAY TO SERVICE YOUR CUSTOMER. 3.Customer service and support is a joke. No help at all. I've had this problem since almost the beginning however I just stopped trying to make it work to save my sanity. BOTTOM LINE- I can't connect to remote servers for more then a few min, I can't play online games, my connection drops more then15-20 times in an hour, they have good incentives for referrals but I'll never refer anyone again. EVER. I've been an IT Network Consultant for over 6 years and I've never had to deal with an ISP this shoddy EVER. I'm researching alternatives currently. member for 17.5 years, 1 visits, last login: 17.5 years ago lodged 17.5 years ago
