Value for money:

Throughout my networking career, I have had experiences with other high-speed ISP in other locations, but since moving here to take care of ill family, using the internet has become a nightmare at best. So hold on tight for this all too truthful (and common) exposure of "THE GREAT RURAL RIPOFF" by hometown mom n' pop operators.

    Order time: OK
Type: Cable PPPoE (1024k / 512k) but never reach more than 70% of this
    Modem: Terayon TJ-715
IP: Dynamic, 2 user, 5 email
    Backup: 10 free dialup hours
Installer: Friendly, yet inexperienced (I had to show him how to config a router)
Value: This word does not apply here. NONE
    Service: Nothing after the sale.

I experience non-scheduled outages on a weekly basis that last about 5 - 12 minutes at a time, but they are still a headache nonetheless. It is shameful that this is the ONLY wide spread option in this area other than dialup, and that they knowingly and willingly take advantage of that fact. This is exactly what an online experience should never be. I should also mention that they have a hidden 5MB per month bandwidth cap on their 100% UNLIMITED high-speed services. This is NEVER mentioned by any salesperson, in any advertisement, on their website or in the service contract. (Since been added to website in mid '05)

They also do not have any decent customer service, nor are they available most of the time during service hours. I say service hours because they don't even have 24/7 or 24/6 tech support. They rely on voice mails and email contact on their end (which they never listen to or read completely for the information) and then they call you back at their leisure with no more than silly basic beginner questions, with zero answers.

SEMO.NET packages w/ $5 additional per month to rent the modem.

UP Speed / Down Speed Price/Month

    256k / 128k $35/month
    512k / 256k $40/month
    1024k / 512k $50/month

SEMO.NET = $50 per each 1024k; a WHOPPING $43/month higher than average compared to other services.

I mean come on! Look at these other REGULAR price packages.
    Verizon: 5120k / 2048k $40/mo
    Verizon: 15360k / 2048k $50/mo
    TW TN: 5120k / 756k $50/mo
    TW AL: 3072k / 756k $45/mo
    TX MO: 8192k / 756k $60/mo
    Comcast: 6144k / 756k $60/mo
    Cox AZ: 9216k / 1024k $65/mo
    Cox VA: 15360k / 2048k $70/mo
    Adelphia: 6144k / 756k $60/mo

    That’s an average of 8192k / 1216k for $56/mo or roughly $7 per each 1024k
