In Grand Forks you have few options for broadband. Qwest MSN Midconet and maybe one or two more. Midconet is far and out the BEST deal and BEST internet in the area. Not only is is cheap it is very fast and RELIABLE. Only once in the past 3 or 4 years that I have had the service has it been down (that i can recall.) One time I was leary about my up and dl speeds so i called to make sure it was working correctly. they tested over the phone and a person was out within 3 days to check the physical line itself. sure enough it was runnin just as it should. For 29.99 a month you can't go wrong. They also have a Midco Max package for you gamers for 49.99 with almost double the Basic package speeds.

I must say I've have Midco.net for a few years now and overall the service has been great. I recently upgraded to Midco Max and it seemed great too. I have recently experienced some trouble with my cable internet service and have been getting this random lag. It's very annoying and frustrating. It's getting to the point that I'm trying to find alternative services to use other than Midco. I'm at the Air Force base next to Emerado so I'm not within range to get DSL service either.

I do have to admit that it's not Midco's fault with the problem i'm experiencing. The problem is not with their equipment or lines, it's with LLC Network Solutions or ATT.Net. While doing a trace route and checking out the hops, I found out that I experience 100% packet lost on hops 6 thru 11. All of these hops are thru ATT.Net which is serviced by LLC Network Solutions. It would be great if Midco could help me since i'm a paying customer with them. When I try to contact the other companies, I get the excuse that my ISP has to call them if there is a problem or I get passed on to some uniformed tech support person who has no idea as to what I'm talking about.

If someone else has experienced this same problem or can offer any suggestions to fix this problem, I would be glad to hear from you. It would also be nice to hear from a level 2 Midco tech support person as well.

My service randomly cuts out for 3-4 hours a day, I called them once to get someone out to look at the line, the person never showed up. Turned out that somehow between the time my service was installed and the support call they messed up my street address in their database. I called them to get that fixed; it didn't get fixed. I e-mailed them three times within the span of a week and a half, I *finally* got a response from them about changing my address back. I called again to schedule someone to come out again, and yet again the person never showed up. Still waiting to get this resolved. I also wish that they had EFT (electronic funds transfer) capabilities from their web site or at the very least by phone. I would like to set up autopay through them directly, but it looks like I'll have to talk to my bank about that (which is *far* less convienient). The web based account center is quite useless as all you can do is add or remove e-mail addresses and see the information they have about you (which is not updated if changes are made; see my point above (the information online is still different than the information in their database)). Quite honestly I have never seen service this bad from a company; avoid it unless you are a very, very, very patient person.

I have the "midco max" service which give a 512 upload. I think I average around 470 or 480. download is at, near or above 3Mbp.

I remember for my 8 AM install appointment the tech showed up at 8 sharp. He ran a new line and was out the door within 45 minutes. Everthing has been pretty smooth from day 1.
I am not sure how long I waited for install, it was about a week or so. I have had the service for a few years now.

Have had to call the support and they always have been able to answer questions and fix any issues I have had. Couple of minor outages but not bad. Overall good value had the $33 pkg with 256 up but wanted more so I sprung for the 512. Just need more upload and all would be great.

I really like the speed (2800 - 3800 kbps) and the stability but a firewall is a must. The installation was quick and I got 3 free months for buying the modem. It drives me nuts that I am blocked from pinging and traceroutes but am still consistantly scanned from outside the network. I haven't really needed to use tech support but have had to make some payments by phone which was easy and did not have to wait long.

Everything from Midcontinent has been good, the installer was courteous, competent and quick. Cory, the install technician, re-ran the outside cable so the tee was close to the power ground. He offered to supply a splitter installed in the house but mine were amplified.

I had a several outages and they were getting more frequent. I would power cycle the modem and then I had a good connection, finally that did not work. I thought the problem was the modem. I called Midcontinent and they had me power cycle everything and then the connection worked.

I asked Midcontinent support about the reliability of the supplied modem and they said they have had very few problems with that model. We decided my new D-Link router could be the problem, I tried another port on the router and the problem almost went away.

Midcontinent had a service technician come to my house the next day to test the cable connection and it was acceptable.

I downloaded a new flash for the router and my downtime has been less then 1 min for the last month except for a total blackout, TV was down also. I called Midcontinent and they already had technicians in-route.

I have had excellent service and support from Midcontinent except I want the same ISP and cable service at $10 less per month.

I ordered the normal ISP cable service, I use a Macintosh OS 9 and I use DHCP.

I get port searched every almost every second from several addresses now. I would not recommend a cable modem for anyone without a router. I am not sure if I am safe even with non-standard hardware!

I've had the service for almost 2 years now and I can say I have never had any issues with the service. I think one time we had a six hour outage, but in almost 2 years if that is all I can complain about, then have nothing to complain about. Anytime I've called, they always answer quick. I did have an issue with a modem that kept loosing the connection every few hours, but I called them and they were out the next day to switch out the modem with a newer one they were now issuing. I had that first modem for almost a year and they switched it out no problem and no cost, considering you actually own the modem and not the cable company. I was ready to buy my own, but they switched it out. If you live in a college town, you might have a bit of a wait for service calls or installations at the start of each semester as all the new incoming students are getting their services hooked up.
