    My Other Reviews·Optimum Online
Well, starting tomorrow, i'm finally leaving CV for good. Had nothing but dissapointments for the last 3 months. Skipping repair visits, being told everything possible as being the reason for my bad connectivity ( including *NO KIDDING* squirrels who might've damaged the outside wiring ).

Final straw was yesterday, when i was supposed to receive a visit from a senior installer / supervisor, which guess what, never showed up. And that was after calling to disconnect, I was asked for one more chance....When i've called to figure out what's going on, I was told that they tried to contact me to confirm the appointment, but the phone would not ring. At they point I've asked how can the phone possibly ring, when my internet is dead ( VOIP line from CV as well ).

To begin with, the only reason i still had CV, was the killer price they gave me in order to keep me from going Fios. Well, the 20$ extra I'm gonna pay to VZ ( might be more if you factor in that i'm not getting phone service from VZ, just cable + internet ), is not gonna keep me with CV. The service is simply not worth it.

As I said in the bottom line...there's no need for VZ to fight CV on pricing...CV does a great job of sending customers to VZ on its own.

    Yeah, me too.

I've just had the exact same experience these past 2 days!

The cable line just went dead while using the phone. I noticed dB levels from my receiver were extremely low, and the modem only had a steady power light, and one other flashing light. Looks like the line has been disconnected somehow, so I called CV and scheduled an "all-day" appointment until 8pm. Of course, no one showed up, so I called back, and the service rep said a supervisor will call me back AT MY CABLE PHONE NUMBER to tell me what's going on. I reminded them the phone is dead, so please call me on my cell (which ALWAYS works in my home, so signal problems).

Well, I call back at 9pm, they tell me the supervisor tried to call me back, but I didn't answer!! Sooo, I scheduled for their 8am-11am appointment slots for the next day.

You can guess what happened next. Absolutely nothing! So, at 11:30am I called CV and asked WTF is going on, and they tell me I have a 2pm-5pm appointment instead! Unacceptable, I told the rep, and I'm cancelling service! CV finally connects me to a supervisor, who made a service tech show up at my home RIGHT AWAY. Quite an unfriendly fellow, I must say, he fixed the line from the pole in 3 minutes, I signed the receipt, he padded his work time performed to AN HOUR, then drove away.

As soon as FiOS shows up around here, regardless of the extra fees, I'm switching.

CV & 'hold' my TV off for an hour & no one at CV phones

Well. I've about had it. I will pay however much it takes, will give in to Verizon & get FIOS, will lose all my DVR'd programs but will hopefully never sit up half the night waiting for the idiot box to reboot. Unacceptable poor software update on CV 's part.

The Boost service has become much more reliable. They address problems quickly. Although I don't have Ultra it's great that they're offering and it's worth considering.

WiFi though is nearly impossible to get where I am although it can change from block to block. Of course that makes it near useless even for walking around the neighborhood.

HD Channels too heavily compressed. Artifacts quite visible.

    VOIP is reliable.

    Premium Channel Indicator

Why should their tv listing channel have an indicator for which channels are premium or not? Cable tv service has been around for a long time and I think its safe to say that a lot of people would already know for sure what is a premium channel and what isn't. Besides you have their OOL service. Are you telling us that you couldn't check online which channels are premium or not with Cablevision?

    Re: Premium Channel Indicator

I've had cable for many years (decades). The Channel lineup keeps growing over time and I would like to know what's premium while looking at the guide, in front of my TV, not when I'm online, in front of my computers.

They can asterisk the premium channels or they can enclose the tier needed for the channel in brackets.

With your reasoning I should just use TV-Guide and they shouldn't include a Channel Guide at all.

    It's about CONVENIENCE.

    Get low rates NOW !

want to get a better rate,,, yes, all the broadcasters rates are going up in 08, but only by a few $$ .. with Comcast looking at cablevision, Verizon is trying to capture many customers with great offers and locked in rates, cable is under pressure loosing 500+ customers a day to Verizon, the only way they can keep their customers is through the disconect /retention department,,, usually they can only offer a 6month promotion, BUT,, if you call or schedule a installation with Verizon,, have a work order number... "" you call that department with cable,, tell them you want to disconect, tell them you are going to Verizon,, and give them the order # from Verizon-FIOS of all 3 services.. they then can offer you a 1yr. ( NEW ) promotion,, or in some areas out in LI, a 2yr is available..
want the lower rates before they go up - call today , get the work order number from FIOS - on ALL 3 services,, and they can make the offer, or else they can not do it..
the pepople who work there are under a lot of pressure, so much pressure, they keep having high turn over every month, due to the large amoutn of disconections,, look in the paper, every week for the past 6 months, they are allway hiring,, why is that,, they don't want to keep employees, it's cheeper for them to get rid of them and hire new for less,,, they will do what ever it takes to get rid of an employee after 6 months in that department, I guess right now - they are only focused on "trying" to keep customers, rather their employees...

"Fastest internet available for a great price (109.99 for 5 static ip 101/15) Optimum Wifi Included and 5 static IPs."
"Cablevision's own static ip router is not gigabit and therefore static IP customers will max out at about 65-70 mbps."
"Businesses thinking about upgrading, my advice is to wait until cablevision updates their hardware."

I ordered this for my home business on Mon and I went live on Thursday. I ordered the Ultra to upgrade from the boost. I wanted the static ip service so I had to switch my account to a business account and cancel the old one (a bit of a hassle but necessary to get the static IP addresses.

When the modem is plugged directly into a computer, I receive about 95mbps down and a bit over 15 up on average. All ports are open, including 80 and 25 (set as closed by default, but you can change them to open anytime you'd like via optimum.net login) There is congestion on my node so certain times of the day sees a slow down. I am the first Ultra subscriber on my street.

My only complaint thus far is the static ip router which is provided is only 10/100. Why is cablevision advertising 101 mbps with hardware incapable of supporting it. The downside is it CAN NOT be bypassed, therefore, my speeds are closer to 60-60 mbps on average. 1/3 of my speed is there but I can not obtain it. Dynamic IP customers do not have this issue. The rest of my network is gigabit and wireless N so it is a damn shame that I can not get those speeds yet. I guess that's the price early adopters pay to have this new technology. Cablevision has promised that there is a new router being tested and that it will be deployed soon as a replacement. The router supplied was a Cisco 800 series and is absolutely enormous. Seriously Cablevision?

There is a hefty $345 installation fee on this service but for any business being run from home, this is a great deal. I hope I will be able to update the review with news of a new router and better speeds.

If you are interested in the service my advice would be to stick to boost for a bit longer if you need static IP. By the time new routers are deployed and tested we should most likely see the $345 "activation charge" maybe lowered. I actually have piece of mind knowing the $345 fee is going to keep people from signing up and congesting the node. lowering my speeds.

The failure to provide service on a regular basis is devastating to our business.

Our operating system is web-based and our employees can't even get on line or have to wait hours for certain functions to complete. Actual upload speeds (if you can call it that) are sometimes as low as 00013 and 00017 or 00018. This is positively atrocious. No one should have to endure this abuse, far more, PAY FOR IT!! I cannot recommend this service even to my worst enemy. This is slower than dial-up. There aught to be a law to stop this rip off.

Well the internet speed is good and reliable in this area so no real complaints about that.

The Set Top Box response time is really slow compared to DirecTV, also the resolution of the UI itself is pretty bad. It looks like it was designed by an intern with no experience.

The HD channels are not on par at all with Over the air and really don't look that much different from standard def. I was really dissapointed by the quality because i came from using an antenna and received OTA HD

Have had internet for three years, TV for the recent year. Online speed is decent when connected. For some reason, I get disconnected at around 1 am every night, if I'm still online. After moving within the area in the past year, I still have that problem. At other times, I've been getting disconnected at random times more and more often ( weather issues hopefully ).

Recently canceled iO TV, and had to deal with a customer representative that gave COMPLETE FALSE information regarding the switch to DTV. Said that I NEEDED cable to watch any television and that the converter box is only "temporary until February". Good thing I'm not technologically behind and knew better than that boldfaced lie. Lucky for him also that my internet was "surprising" not working and I couldn't read him word for word what the DTV.gov site says, which he claimed supported his argument. When I called again, I luckily was able to reach a more intelligent representative and canceled my cable TV service.

However, after returning the cable box, my internet service went down and had to call to have them re-activate it. I was transferred three times between tech-support and accounting ( shows what they know about their error screens ), and the tech support guy that finally helped deal with was great, even had a sense of humor and told me that it was a common issue for the internet to be disconnected after canceling the TV portion.

If I could, I would switch to another provider just to try it out but I'd rather not get hit with the absurd installation fees.

Basic service has become quite good - speed fine and its always up.

Given up on their email and moved my family to gmail. In any case, its silly to tie your email to your ISP even if it works, which cablevision's doesn't.

news servers are a disaster. Slow and very short retention times. I have a Linux server pulling the newsgroups I follow. Without that, it would be unusable.

Service will always tell you something in your house is broken, even if the whole system is down. Just clueless.

Now deploying free (for now) WiFi for OOL users. I've used it and it works. Still only in a few places, and rumors it will stop being free.

Price for ISP is still $45 - my total is $144 which includes my TV which is exorbitant. And TV is terrible. And they are killing analog, which means my two other TV's will soon need cable boxes as well! More money every month.

I have two DVRs. DVR is a good buy, but I'm having IO troubles. They are moving HD channels to Switched Digital Video, which can't work as they are deploying it. Their engineers are clueless or their executives are stupid or both. Bottom line - channels randomly fail. Waiting for FIOS to arrive - then I'll have a decision to make.
