The lower level plans not only limit your bandwidth, but also drop your packet priority so your performance suffers. Read on for more detail.
I was paying $60/mo for the high end plan (advertised as 1.5 down and 512 up). I rarely received more then 350 down and 250 up, so when it came time for renewal I opted to only pay for the speed I was receiving. They have two other plans: mid level -- $45/mo speeds of 512k down and 128k up low end -- $40/mo speeds of 256k down and up.
I purchased their third level package (256k down up). Shortly after my downgrade my speeds dropped to about 150k 170k down. After talking with three different people I found my problem. Not only are they limiting bandwidth for the different residential packages, they are also giving a lower packet priority on their network for each of the lower level residential packages.
I understand limiting my bandwidth based on what I pay, but to give me lower priority and drop my packets from your network because I dont pay as much as the next guy. Give me a break.

I have never been a wireless user before. I will say from thier sales staff to thier installers, to thier tech support, they are very proffesional in everything they do! I think it was about a seven day order to up and running experience. The first day I used the service, I really did not know what to expect as far as performance. I called the office to compare notes with My salesman,he got the necessary adjustments made on his end because by the time I got home from work, the internet speed was flying. That just proved to me that I am hooked up with a staff that cares about thier customers. I can say that the new service was the best value for my money being that I got in just under the January promotion for install. I would advise anyone that is within the reach of a Fairnet wireless tower, to look at thier plan, You will not regret it!! Good Job Guy's!!!! I also enjoyed closing my account with Direcway after five years.
Update 07-08-05
As of todays date I have discontinued service with Fairnet. We have been having
trouble with download speeds for several weeks now. My wife does her
study courses on line . She has been upset at the rising accurances of downtime.
The service has been out at many random times as long as 4 hours . When she cannot participate with on line lectures, she has to write papers that cost her about 5 hours each. I personally have noticed slower speeds way down in and below 200 kbs even in the off peak hours. We never have seen the performance that they advertise in a little over a years service. Another broadband service was offered to us in our area at $20.00 less per month. So far they have exceeded their
advertised speeds and reliability.
