The service has been great for 2 years. Now the speed is slow and tech service is poor. They admit there is a problem, but they can't seem to fix it. member for 13.5 years, 7 visits, last login: 12.6 years ago lodged 13.5 years ago
I wanted to wait an see how the system operates over time before making a final decision on its reliability and speed. After 2 years, here is my short review. My connection speed varies greatly from 1.2 to 4.8 meg up but download speed is constant at 608. Maybe the adaptive speed rate along with my telephone line contribute to the varying speed I am receiving. I would not go back to dialup. After 3.5 years not much has change, the $45 price of my grandfather package is outdated. After 5 years upgraded from Expert +(grandfather package) to Elite for $35. Only received because complained about being unhappy with the lose of usenet, flickr and file storage services and no subsequent decrease in grandfather's price. Speed is still not consistent, the Elite package only increase max upload from 608 to 768 but every little bit helps. Would I recommend this cost effective provider to others, YES After 6 years the Elite package has been operating at the same level of consistency, I wish FIO was available. I like the package but all the new flash per loads are making this speed move more toward dialup. member for 20.2 years, 1240 visits, last login: 4.6 years ago updated 13.7 years ago

I've had ADSL service for about 9 years, and only have had two interruptions in that time frame.Started with the 1.5/384 plan, later upgraded to the 3008/512,and finally got the 6016/768 service. Still on 6016/768 DSL Elite service, and glad to report service is bug free. member for 22.2 years, 4107 visits, last login: 6.4 years ago updated 13.9 years ago
Hi, I have been using AT&T landline and DSL service for 5 years, from previous address (94086) to here (95050). However, the speed and the service are getting worse month after month. I had 1.5Mbps package for $25 per month but it had hardly to get more than 500Kbps. I called ATT to compliant couple times and told them I want to cancel the service (for both landline and DSL). They told me the only reason is my home address too far away to "central office" - CO SNTCCA11, and they had problem to promise me any improvement. But they did upgrade my speed from 1.5M to 3M after compliant, so that my maximum speed limit would higher that original. It actually did. I have seem my DSL sometime go up to 1.5Mbps, or even 2.0Mbps. Since this week, my maximum had never gone higher than 1Mbps (right now when I am writing, 573Kbps only). It was very frustrated. I don't see any hope from AT&T and want to switch to others, but my option is very limit. 1. Comcast: they have a promotion for new customer as Internet Cable $19.99 per month, for 6 months. After that, $59.99 for non-cableTV customer (we are not TV fans). It is kind of expensive compare to what we are using right now. If I want to go on this option, I need to pay, the one time installation fee for $50, cable modem $20 to $40 (depends for pay shipping only if free from new account, or buy an used one somewhere). The speed is about 6Mbps. 2. DSL Extreme: they offer much good deal than AT&T, when I enter my address, it shows only two available option: 756Kbps and 1.5Mbps. Sigh! Also, I guess they share line or service(?) with AT&T. I called them couple months ago for questions, they told me it was no way to go any higher than what AT&T could give me. What? I am not only frustrated but also very disappointed. All I want is the acceptable Internet access that I can go Youtube or Hulu, but for the speed that I am getting right now. No way. Not to mention as my landline service is sometime disconnected or very noisy. AT&T came for trying to fix it twice and still had problem. I want to cancel it and switch to VOIP as well. My location is Castro Pl. cross Los Padres Blvd. in Santa Clara. Any ideas? (review was emailed from domain gmail.com) lodged 14.1 years ago
HTTP Error 405-Did they charge you $139.99 to fix it also In the last 4-5 days have any sbcglobal clients have problems with the knowledge of the #1 Tier of support. The first one said it was due to a cat 5 cable (WRONG). I believe with all the confusion and outsourcing of tech support, ATT is having quite a problem. I asked to be connected to the #2 tier support. When I told them what happened....they said It would cost me $99.00 for 5 days of support or $139.99 for 6 months of service for the problems that were coming. I really find it predatory business practices. The manner in which our vendor operates makes me want to change vendors. The heck with the $139.99 ATT is quite proficient in subterfuge. It's funny that a company with the anachronism "RAK" and "RAKTL" racks in millions of dollars from ATT to use their patents and licenses...ATT doesn't like it very much. Any comments are welcome. member for 20.8 years, 568 visits, last login: 13.2 years ago updated 14.3 years ago

I'm back on AT&T DSL after a couple years with Cox. I am now using a "Dry-loop" DSL product only, no POTS. This causes no end of fits with AT&T's website. The process was easy, I tried to use the website to sign up but had to call due to the sans POTS part of the deal. It was automatic, they shipped me the modem, and they turned on the service. Support here on BBR is excellent via AT&T Direct. Something that was annoying: AT&T had been bombarding me to switch to them with offers of cash back, rebates etc. However they refused to provide any for just Internet--- they push DSL with POTS only. (Or U-Verse.) Plus they charged me for the modem I didn't want or need (they insisted, and no rebate) and they charge a penalty price, a higher monthly rate, for daring to NOT want POTS. Since I was trying to save money, this is annoying. DSL is still cheaper then Cox.... just barely. I'm also having some issues with speed consistency. Not sure why. Line is always up, which is a whole lot more then I can say for Cox. Pings are decent. IMHO It's pretty expensive for what you get. AT&T really should consider boosting DSL speeds, especially on the upload side, and shouldn't expect $45+ a month for 6mbps down/640k up. The news that AT&T is testing metered billing, with low, low caps and high, high overage charges is also a big, big minus. member for 24.2 years, 5270 visits, last login: 3 years ago updated 14.6 years ago
I signed up for AT&T's DSL Service "Express Service" 1.5 Downstream, 384 Upstream; then low and behold the day i am having it turned on, I get a notice in the mail that states verbatim: "Welcome to AT&T High Speed Internet Service. Providing you with the best customer experience is very important to us, and to improve the quality of our service for all subscribers, we are conducting a bandwidth usage trial in the Reno area. Each of our Internet services has a monthly bandwidth usage allowance. If you exceed the allowance for your service, you will be billed $1.00 for each gigabyte over the allowance." The Allowances range from 20GB to 80GB per calendar month... who does this? This is the 1st time whether it be DSL or Cable Internet Provider, that i have seen Bandwidth limiting. It's sad that the day my DSL is suppose to be activated i had to call and have it canceled. I dont know where the company is headed i am thinking they need to generate income, idk. So for those administrators who work from home and remote in, those who have children or even themselves who game online via PC, XBOX, PS, WII, ect..., or perhaps you download movies with a torrent downloader or simply watch netflix online, your so screwed. This company needs to understand unlimited is the way its suppose to be. you dont offer unlimited and then place limits on it, your taking away from our service!! For those who just got a notification in the mail as i did, its time to disconnect your service and show your displeasure with the company... the only way to make change is generally hurt them where it counts... and saddly its the pocket book. member for 14.7 years, driveby review (so far) updated 14.7 years ago |
