DSL Express package, speed enough for email and surfing. member for 21.2 years, 7451 visits, last login: a few hours ago updated 12.9 years ago
I've had service for almost 10 years with them. I have no other choice for now. The speeds go up and down at their whim. I have told them I would rather have and occasional outage then have my speed turned down. But some do gooder keeps turning it down. My line checks say things are fine. They just don't care about people then know have no other options. member for 21.1 years, 54 visits, last login: 11.9 years ago updated 12.9 years ago
I believe AT&T Yahoo is doing the best it can with the basic knowledge that most of the employees have, based on conversations with the different levels of technical support. It is impossible to try and talk about possible software incompatibilities between point A and point B. Line provisioning and testing the modem is the easy part. Getting my computer to talk to their server is another thing, but they will have nothing to do with it. The Jet set at Yahoo are always coming up with new and clever ideas, however none of them work as they were intended to. As the Internet still being in its infancy, I believe that they are providing a rather good Bang for the Buck, even IF. Update: I'll report, you decide Yesterday 07-31-07 both of my email clients, OE, and Thunderbird would not connect to the att yahoo email server. After several hours of waiting, I decide to call Tech Support at att yahoo and see if there were any known issues. 1st level, there are no known issues, let me check your line. Your line is in good condition, lets look at your settings. The settings had just been updated by att yahoo self support tool. We go through all the settings, connection problem not resolved. 1st level, let me contact 2nd level, 3 minutes pass, 1st level, I have 2nd level I will switch you over to them. 2nd level what seems to be your problem, Me, since early this afternoon I have been unable to connect to the att yahoo email server. 2nd level, lets check your settings, Me, we just did that. 2nd level, let me go into your computer and do the checking to make sure nothing was missed. I agree. 2nd. level open IE and type in the address bar att.net/rc. I do this and it goes to a page to download software into my computer to give 2nd level remote access to my computer. I agree and a few minutes later 2nd level had control of my computer. The settings in both OE and Thunderbird were checked by 2nd level, and no problems were found with the settings. Both email clients are still not connecting to the server. We can send someone out to the house to solve the problem but it will cost you by the hour as I am not allowed to do any work on your computer from here. Me, I assure you there is nothing wrong with my computer, everything has been ok up until this afternoon. 2nd level, It could be something you done without knowing it. Me, I am pretty sure that is a no. 2nd level, We just switched to SSL connection and maybe your email clients can not handle it. Me, I did the SSL change about 6 weeks ago and everything has worked fine up until this afternoon. 2nd level, you will have to contact Microsoft to resolve the connection issue with OE. Me, do I contact MS about Thunderbird also? telling 2nd level I am having a problem understanding how 2 email clients could be experiencing the same problem at the same time. 2nd level, you will have to contact Netscape about Thunderbird as it is the same and Netscape will not work with our server either. Me, I want to thank you for your help, and I will see what I can do. 2nd level disconnects from my computer. 2nd level, there I have disconnected from your computer. Thank you for calling att Yahoo, if you have any problems in the future don't hesitate to call us. Me, I am going to let this ride until I can climb up on my high horse, and then I will call the att business office and get this issue taken care of. I say thank you and hang up the phone. Immediately I un-install everything on my computer related to att and yahoo including the RC. There is still no connection to the email server using my 2 email clients. It's late I'm tired and go to bed. This morning I turn on the computer and check to see if anything had happened regarding my issue. I found things the same as they were. I am too angry to talk to anyone at the business office so I just let thing ride until this evening. I turn on the computer, Open OE first and bingo in come the emails, I then open Thunderbird, and bingo it is working also. What do you think? Ohm Bugs or What Update 05-16-10 New call to att Yahoo tech support: 2nd level with superb knowledge. All problems solved. System singing like a canary. Thank You Update 10-23-10 Seems as though AT&T Yahoo are relying on the first level tech support to be able to BS the customer into believing there is nothing wrong with the system when in fact first level tech support has no clue as to what is going on., and refusing to take any action regarding possible problems within the system over and above balancing the DSL lines. Example: I had no signal, the 2Wire gateway was blinking Red. First level Tech support said there is nothing wrong. I ask them to please send a Technician to my house, which they did. This tech came plugged into my line and says you have no signal I tell him that's why you are here. He plugs in another piece of equipment and says I can hear a modem but it is not yours. He calls the local switch room and talks to a helper, no luck there as the helper was not knowledgeable of what he was talking about. The tech then tells me I'll go to the switch room and fix it, your modem is out. I ask how long it would take, he replies within the hour. and he is off. Last I seen or heard of him, but within the hour I had all green lights on the 2Wire gateway. After a reboot of the system all was back to normal, Normal not being what it should actually be. Other than provisioning the lines there is a lot of PM that need to be done in the Central Office Switch Rooms and this is where AT&T Yahoo fall short along with many other ISP's. member for 18.9 years, 655 visits, last login: 6.7 years ago updated 12.9 years ago
02-05-2004: Ordered Since I had an existing DSL (Cyberonic), I had to call in. 20 minute order, 2 minute for the ISP switch verification, and done. ETA: 02-12-2004. 02-12-2004: Delivered UPS drops off a SpeedStream 5100b. I got a call from SBC (automated) that the ETA is 02-18-2004. Hmm... 02-13-2004: Activated DSL goes out for a few minutes, maybe more. I wasn't really watching. When I come back, I plugged in the SpeedStream and see that it's synched at 6016/608. Did that registration thing, and I'm now on SBC. I thought I would have to endure a week or more of no DSL because of the ISP switch (like my DirecTV DSL to Cyberonic DSL switch), but this was surprisingly painless. Speed? At around 4600ft from the CO, I'm getting these speeds: Download = 5.062 Mbps Upload = 518.06 kbps Not bad... .... 03-2011: After 7 years... Goodbye. ... Honestly, I was fine with what I had with AT&T/SBC DSL - no major complaints. Even when there were newer options available, I didn't want the potential hassle and downtime with switching ISPs, so I stuck around with them. But now that they're capping us down to 150GB/mo, it was time to go... I've switched both phone & Internet to Sonic.Net Fusion. member for 22.6 years, 2735 visits, last login: 12.3 years ago updated 12.9 years ago
I initially had Roadrunner but was so dissatisfied with it that I've recently switched to AT&T Yahoo. I called to get my phone and internet switched to AT&T Yahoo, and within a week, they were out here hooking things up. The technician that came into my home wore those booties (shoe covers) so he wouldn't track dirt onto my cream carpet, which was so thoughtful of him! He also made small talk and seemed really friendly and didn't make me feel like an idiot because I'm not as tech-savvy as he was. LOL He really made us feel like we customers were his #1 priority. Once he was done, he tested all the lines and made sure to clean up after himself. He then asked me where I'd like the phone and if I wanted him to hook it up; he said it was no problem. A few hours later, a rep called to check and make sure the phone was working and that I was not having problems or concerns with the service. She also wanted to remind me of my internet service activation date and gave me all of their support contact info in case I needed anything else, and she ensured me that they have talked to my old ISP and have handled making sure that the old services were disconnected so I wouldn't pay for both. A few days later, I received my small, lightweight modem in the mail and got everything set up. It came with everything I need, and it was really simple to get it all set up. I did end up using my own stash of phone cord though, because I needed over 25ft of it. LOL They did give me filters and a very long cord but it was just a few feet shy from what I needed, as I was going to hide the wiring behind the baseboard so I needed extra slack. I've had the internet since Apr 25, and have not had any problems with it so far. It also seems faster, as graphics-intense sites (like RPG ones) pop up right away when in the past with Roadrunner, it took a few seconds to sometimes a minute before the page was done loading. I had no noise on the phone line either, but it was nice just to have one that works! A rep called me the day of my internet installation to ensure everything went well, and then they called again a few days later to make sure things with both my phone & internet were still good and to give me all of their support contact info. Overall, I was pleased with the service and level of care I received from AT&T Yahoo. If in the future, I get any problems with it, I will post again and share with all of you. But so far, everything's great! I was told to keep the modem turned on for 10 days so that they can see what, if any, tweaking would be necessary to ensure I was getting the speed I paid for. So the speed tests done below may not be stable/accurate. I will do a few more after the 10-day mark. Equipment received: - Modem: Motorola (Style# mstatea) w/ power cord - Long (15-20ft?) ethernet cord (color coded with the modem outlet) - Long (15-20ft?) data cable (color coded with the modem outlet) - Instructions and other manuals - CD-ROM installation/guide Apr 28 - 15.1 Mb/s: »www.speedtest.net/result ··· 1216.png Apr 26 - 10.5 Mb/s: »www.speedtest.net/result ··· 3134.png Apr 26 - 12.29 Mb/s: »www.speedtest.net/result ··· 2297.png ------------------------------------------- UPDATE: Oct 12, 2010 I'm moving from an apartment to a house, and I've stuck with AT&T this whole time. I haven't had any problems with their service here at our apartment, & I expect the same great service in our new home. The 1 time we had an issue, was because of an overheating/recalled modem from Motorola. They came out & replaced it right away, so we haven't had any other probs. I'm glad to have dropped Time Warner Internet & Phone when I did! Too bad AT&T doesn't have uverse/cable available yet at my new address, but they made me such a great (& inexpensive) deal to get their AT&T/DirecTV service that I'm kicking Time Warner to the curb altogether! Yay! I'm paying $103 a month to Time Warner for 3 TVs (only 1 is HD), and that's for basic channels/no premium channels, no phone, no internet. What a rip off! Half the time, our HD service goes black, so what am I really paying for? AT&T will give me DirecTV for our 3 TVs (1 HD), plus bundle our phone & internet -- all for a mere $107 a month. Now that's a deal! Of course, I'd have to get a 2yr contract but I'm ok with that since we're going to be moving into a home & plan on being there for years to come. They put caps on. It's no longer a good deal. I ordered Comcast. member for 22.2 years, 6871 visits, last login: 70 days ago updated 13 years ago
Reasonable caps, like U-Verse or Comcast's 250Gb's are more realistic. AT&T's DSL caps are a ripoff!! Avoid this service. Sonic, or DSL Extreme are good local alternatives I'm exploring. member for 22.1 years, 6594 visits, last login: a few hours ago updated 13 years ago

Update: 3-5-11 After calling AT&T and asking them to double check to see if I can get U-Verse and send a tech out, I can. Ordered U200 plus HD, 18Mbps internet (fastest I can get), and phone. Install will be next week, will post update after a few weeks of using it. Update: 2-24-11 Still got 6/768 from AT&T, no U-Verse still, AT&T saying I am to far away to get it. Still getting great speeds 24/7, and still with the 4100 modem. They did drop the price a few months ago to 30$ a month so i've decided not to switch to Comcast (would be over 80$ a month for Comcast). Update: 8-1-09 Still going strong, few months ago, had a few routing problems but David in the Direct forum got it all worked out. Still no U-Verse here (but it is here in town just not where i live) Still have the 4100 modem that i hope never dies. If U-Verse is not here by the time Comcast gets D3 upgraded here, i'll be moving off DSL and to cable. Update: 9-5-07 Just a little update, i have had no down time in the past few months and speeds are still the same! I even got a few of my friends to move to ATT DSL from comcast b/c of how stable my speeds are and the ping times ( on avg, i get 30-40ms lower ping times than comcast) No news on U-Verse in my area yet, but i can always hope. Update: 6-15-07 I just got upgraded to there Elite plan, upgrade happen at around 6:30am. Speed test has been around 5100/640. Very happy about the speeds. I ordered 3/512 and got my dsl modem in the mail about a week later. I got the SpeedStream 4100 DSL modem with the install cd. Pluged it in and ran thro the cd to set up my dsl account. After all that i was up and running. Did a speed test and got 2.6/410 (me being stupid back in the day, i know the speeds are right now) and thought it might b/c i just got it, but now about 6months later im still getting 2.6/410 even tho in the modem it says im connected at 3008/512. DSL goes out for about an hour once a month but nothing to big. I pay 19.99 for 12months then it will go back up to 24.99. Over all im very happy with it, im just hoping some time down the line i can get my max speeds and be able to upgrade to there 6/768 plan. member for 17 years, 7114 visits, last login: a few hours ago updated 13 years ago
$45/month for 3.5 mb/s is outrageous! I'm dropping a long standing att email address and notifying all contacts of a new gmail address. Once that has been accomplished will be dropping att like a hot potato. member for 16.6 years, 1 visits, last login: 16.6 years ago updated 13 years ago |
