6 mbps "Elite" speed results in 5 mbps speed. Cheaper than cable, poor tech support. Supplied equipment resulted in intermittent connection but upgraded modem fixed this. (review was emailed from domain mrdonley.com) lodged 13.4 years ago
Considered Comcast, but friends said the connection was not always reliable. We ordered the basic package and self-installed (the kit made it rather easy). I loved the reliability of the connection, wished I had faster speed, though. member for 14.3 years, 13 visits, last login: 12.8 years ago lodged 13.4 years ago
Well I've had AT&T dsl for about 3 hers now. Haven't switched my modem for 2 years, an recently got a new one. Point being. I've been paying for the pro service, as stated in my monthly bill, but only got the speeds for express. I called AT&T ahoy this issue, and their excuse was that pro is not Available where I live. (lie #1) I later said to the rep that I had dsl pro for 2 years and that it was infact available. Still , he said it was not, because my lines simply could not get those speeds. Now, I have an xbox 360, a gaming rig, a laptop, iPod touch and an iPhone. One day I was downloading somefiles for my sister when I see it was downloading at 160kbps on her laptop, and on my pc it was downing at 140kbps. My lines are more that capable of handling it. The next day I call again and tell them, my lines are capable of it and thtit was a lie, and that I wanted my speeds of pro again, since that's what I was paying for. And still, the rep insisted it wasn't possible. Only this time, she said that my bandwidth was limited because they are installing AT&T uverse. I said , great! How Long until I can have uverse? She said in abou a week or so. It's now been 4 months. The website says it's not available, my bandwidth is still at pathetic express speeds and I'm still paying for pro. I am now done with AT&T. They do not care abouttheyre customers and let alone about they're service. And AT&T, you just lost a valuable customer who is now going to dsl extreme. They have good reviews, very little complaints and people who are always glad to help. And yes AT&T, my lines can have 3.0, I am goog to ether elite package from dsl extreme. Thanks a lot for all the search and destroy 1v1s you ruined and all the nukes that could have been, but where stopped by your crappy Internet service. Enough said. member for 13.6 years, 9 visits, last login: 9.6 years ago lodged 13.4 years ago
I just canceled. AT&T is trying to move everyone to u-verse, with not benefit in speed or anything else. So I couldn’t use my 1 year old AT&T Motorola DSL modem, I had to get one from them, which was supposed to have a rebate credit. Well I got the account online, then got e-mail that there were errors and had to call. Fine, called in and everything was set up, a couple of days later than originally quoted. OK, so the service was decent as getting the advertised speeds. I now get the first bill $40 not the $19.95 that was on the ad on the AT&T site. So I call in and was told that I did not sign up on line and that all there is no rebate for the modem, they can get me the 19.95 for 6 months and then it goes up to 40 for the rest of the one year contract. I was paying 25 for 18mbps in N. California. AT&T wanted 40 for 6mbps. So I got fed up with the person on the phone and said to just cancel everything, it's too complicated to figure out what happened and they can't change the order, because I had supposedly called in the order and not did it online. So for the time being I'm going without internet, but it' better than dealing with AT&T mess. I guess if you want the service and have no other option then you are going to have to deal with horrible service, overly inflated prices and unexpected charges. Update: Went with Time Warner Cable (only intetnet, no TV, no phone), 15 mbps at 50 a month. So far so good, they even installed on a Sunday. member for 19.1 years, 11 visits, last login: 13.4 years ago updated 13.4 years ago
Last year I upgraded to AT&T's DSL Pro service (3/512) from Express (1.5/384). I'm using a Cisco 2621 (64/16) with IOS version 12.3(26) and the WIC-1ADSL card, having ditched the Speedstream & WRT54G setup I had previously. As for getting the 2621configured to work with AT&T's service, I used the forums from dslreports.com to point me in the right direction. All AT&T's tech support did for me was email me the URL for Cisco's website. Here is the link for the tests I ran (line quality and speed) »/testh ··· 23/b4f72 Even with these numbers, AT&T can claim that the Pro package faster than Express. What I found most odd was that my speeds were worse now than what I had last year when I published my initial review, as I had gotten 2200kbps downloads back then. member for 13.5 years, 39 visits, last login: 154 days ago updated 13.5 years ago
The service has been great for 2 years. Now the speed is slow and tech service is poor. They admit there is a problem, but they can't seem to fix it. member for 13.5 years, 7 visits, last login: 12.6 years ago lodged 13.5 years ago
I wanted to wait an see how the system operates over time before making a final decision on its reliability and speed. After 2 years, here is my short review. My connection speed varies greatly from 1.2 to 4.8 meg up but download speed is constant at 608. Maybe the adaptive speed rate along with my telephone line contribute to the varying speed I am receiving. I would not go back to dialup. After 3.5 years not much has change, the $45 price of my grandfather package is outdated. After 5 years upgraded from Expert +(grandfather package) to Elite for $35. Only received because complained about being unhappy with the lose of usenet, flickr and file storage services and no subsequent decrease in grandfather's price. Speed is still not consistent, the Elite package only increase max upload from 608 to 768 but every little bit helps. Would I recommend this cost effective provider to others, YES After 6 years the Elite package has been operating at the same level of consistency, I wish FIO was available. I like the package but all the new flash per loads are making this speed move more toward dialup. member for 20.2 years, 1240 visits, last login: 4.6 years ago updated 13.7 years ago
I have had this service for many years. It was with a stand alone line then when they had a price break I changed to the 14.99 deal. service has been good. I had a issue last year and the tech downgraded me instead of looking for the problem he took the easy way out. I called the phone company and got them to check the phone line for static and they found that is=t was installed wrong and collecting water that corroded the connections. he repaired them and then had me upgraded and it has been good since then. bottom line is OK service and great price. member for 22.1 years, 3425 visits, last login: 6.2 years ago updated 13.7 years ago
I had ATT DSL until 5/4/10. I turned off the service when I went on vacation. I signed up again- 6/5/10, and was forced to take UVERSE- as it is the only game in town for DSL. Pricing is $24.95 a month , 3.0 or 6.0 Download speed cap! Charter is not competitive, and or I would have cable. Still may change, or find a Air card DSL connection. All I wanted, so got only DSL, so no package! The service was for 6.0 Download DSL, free 2Wire Gateway 2701-HGV-B modem, with $100.00 rebate, after 30 days of service! Service was turned on 6/10/10. An Uverse tech support came to my house. History: There is no fiber in the local area, only copper lines. The local junction box is like 1760 feet away, with a copper feed line to it! From that box to my house is like 15 poles, running 50 year old telephone cable, that is wore out , broken, and simple a nightmare of service. For 3 years I have had ATT DSL, and nothing but night mares of disconnects! WHY, the line constantly breaks, and ATT Cable repair has to splice all together again. On 6/10/2010…….. Uverse DSL tech comes to my house! Uverse sends tech, a genius with all of 2 years of experience or on the job training! So he personally dismantled a working service, put there in October, 2009, by ATT techs, which here is what was done in 2009: ATT- rewired a new phone wire, from the house wall plugin module to the house junction box outside new, installing a quality outside splitter. So then the modem can only be plugged into the dedicated plug!!! So to get to this point of this repair, took about 12 ATT DSL service calls! This happened over about 3 years of horror, many BBB complaints, and dealing with the ATT Executive Relations Department, in San Francisco, numerous times. Problem is always the same: Bad 50 year old phone cable line, which can be spliced today, and breaks tomorrow! Bottom line, ATT can not find be a workable paired line, thru this 50 yea old cable, so they splice and attempt to fix this outdated and broken service! So now June10th, brand new modem, ( I have 3-- 2 wire 2701-G modems that ATT kept replacing), and the Uverse DSL tech from the Arcadia Field office arrives. This genius, who having been told of the history, and the rewired new line from the wall modem, takes it on himself, and rewires the splitters. History: Uverse DSL tech here 6/10/10, installation up and running. ATT 20 year line splicer tech came to work on bad transmission phone line. He arrived at 9AM, left 5PM, working on the line from the pole to the junction box. This was 6/11/2010 Disconnect history according to ATT customer support: 6/10/10: 6 disconnects 6/12/2010: 21 disconnects 6/14/2010: 62 disconnects 6/15/2010: 55 disconnects So now, Monday, 6/14/2010, ATT-DSL repair guy ( who could actually climb a pole) with 30+ years of experience arrives. We look at the outside box, and talking, he asks what genius took apart the outside splitter, rewired it incorrectly? 2nd: Uverse tech support arrives, with his field supervisor, the ATT-DSL guy leaves \ AS NOW (6/10/10) ATT-UVERSE has control of the DSL, not ATT-DSL~ so here the first problem! Bad service, techs from ATT Uverse who are not so good, and for years bad ATT 50 year old phone cable lines coming from the local junction box down the street towards my house, 1760 feet from the j unction box. ALSO, there is no FIBER at all in this whole area!! All is copper fed to the local phone junction boxes, as the one on Potereo Grande, 91770… They are here over 2 hours, disconnect my phone line, and check the modem at the outside junction box, and get this, Rewire the original configuration of the outside splitter as was, before the Uverse 2 year’s veteran of 2 years, the first tech, messed up a prior working connection and wiring! The SOUUTION: Slow the service down to 1.5 down Rewire down the street, saving maybe 80 feet of run from the telephone pole to my junction box! So, I bring them in the house and we go to: speedtest.com. I show them my history, of about 50 speed tests. All mostly have bad ping, higher that 150, going to 385ping. This according to ATT tech support is bad service feed line to the modem, and slow connect time in a loop! I connect to my neighbors ATTDSL, service. I use next door service when ATT DSL fails! According to the neighbor, his DSL has had no problems, always works, and one time 3 years back the modem was changed! Speedtest logged the download at: 1.91... It is this slow as to distance from his modem! So I asked the Uverse Supervisor, well, this is next door, it is a 2.5 service, and you want to reduce my top speed to 1.5 down, using the same lines. What are you smoking? Make my DSL work as good as the neighbor!!! So, now today, a line repair is scheduled! This would be about 12 attempts to repair and splice a no good 50 year old ATT phone cable line, servicing our neighborhood! Bottom Line: In California, we can not file PUC complaints against ATT! So ATT then justifies the annual reviews of tariffs adding in all the field tech support service costs! This is our pricing in California for service! So, the complete infra structure of the local service This is a hopeless solution! Charter is bad service and overpriced! ATT and their new product line is a joke! What we need is free mandated public Internet WIFI, in all cities, This then might be a solution!!! member for 13.7 years, driveby review (so far) updated 13.7 years ago |
