Called grande.. they came out the next day to install.. the telephone poll line ended 3 houses down.. guy called his supervisor.. they came out and ran the line the extra 3 houses out to mine just an hour later!!! ping is 26ms. 22-24Mbps Down. 3Mbps UP. just as advertised.. so far so good.. only add on the monthly price is $3 modem rental.
Comments:
 | | Corpus Christi Are you receiving the advertised speeds during peak usage hours(5pm-12am), or just during off-peak usage hours? Is Grande still giving users the Ambit/Ubee cable modems? | |

Beware before you apply there....
I am ANGRY & am rating them poorly because of how they treat their employees. When my husband was hired, they had promised that he would only have to work every other Saturday. That was a lie. It changed right after he got there. It turned into shift bids. Whoever was the best at sales got the first pick at the schedule. And it didn't matter HOW you got the sale or even if the customer knew they have been sold something. As long as you got the sale, you got the commission and the first choice at the schedule. Then... it did get a little better. They started looking at the other skills... quality control, customer satisfaction... etc. Some of the "phonies" were pushed out .... kind of. But there are still "phonies" there. The upper management.... they promise something than change their minds. They talk about caring for their employees.... but really the only important thing is the bottomline. Show me the money! Let's take over Texas!!!
Well, start working with your employees! And give ALL of your employees the option to take 2 days off in a row!!!! After 4 years, my husband still has to work Saturdays. He does not get 2 days off in a row. Our family only has 1 day off together. To take a weekend, he has to take PTO or bargain (almost beg, plead even bribe) with the lucky souls who do get weekends off. Grande, you do NOT care about families! Happier employees mean MORE MONEY!!!!
Signed, An Angry wife!

Over 5 years:
The cable modem went bad on me. After a knowledgeable tech support call, I picked up a new modem the next day from their office. Tech support wasn't simply a "reboot your computer" type guy but knew what he was doing technically, which impressed me. Other than that, the internet service was pretty good. I play a lot of games and seldom had any problems.
The splitter they supplied during installation went out once which I had to replace at my own cost (about $10). The symptom was poor cable modem performance. I've never had that happen before, but Grande assured me they need to be replaced every year or so.
TV service was average. Most channels were good, although some were a little grainy. Occasionally channels would be mysteriously bad for a couple days.
Phone service overall was mediocre. Voice quality was often below expectations, with frequent line noise. Several times their phone system crashed and had to be rebooted at my request, during which time I was unable to make or receive any calls. It would've been nice for them to do that automatically instead of waiting for me to call it in. I have no idea how long it was down each of these times since I mainly use my landline for incoming calls.

I live in Creekside Homes at Legacy and Grande is our only option in the complex. Let me tell you, this service is HORRIFIC! Since move in, we have constantly had drops in service. Streaming Netflix HD and non-HD movies will pause or play degraded while service drops. Playing the PS3 online is impossible. VPN into work gets disconnected or hangs up. The errors happen durning the day and more frequently in the evenings.
Tech support says the response from the DSLAM is slow and returns errors. I was told the equipment at our location obsolete and the root cause of the issues. I was also told theres nothing they can do and its up the apartment complex to renegotiate or change providers. What a crock

$25 per month about 1 days "Internet speed, customer svc" "None, so far" "Overall good experience"
| Pre Sales information: Install Co-ordination: Connection Reliability: Services: Value for money:

I called Grande today (9/22/10) at noon and requested internet svc. I already knew what I wanted, but allowed rep to speak in order to see how I'd be treated. He was very courteous and NOT pushy. I ordered 8Mbps pkg which is $40 p/mo. As a courtesy, he informed me that they had their top tier (12Mbps) on sale for $25 p/mo for one year, then $10 increase second yr, then regular price ($50) at 3rd yr, if I chose to stay or downgrade. I took the sale price. Employee took my info and scheduled me for 8PM install today, which surprised me.
I received an automated call at 4:45PM to inform me that installer would arrive at 5PM, with option to reschedule. I confirmed appt and sure enough, installer arrived at 5PM. Since this was a new install, employee had to install outside cable box and run wire to utility pole in the alley. He then completed wiring job to inside of my home. I furnished my own cable modem (Moto SB6120) which he set up along with my router. The tech was done by 7PM. Very courteous and efficient.
I immediately went to speedtest.net. To my surprise, my first run was as posted below:
24.33Mbps down/1.13Mbps up
I was thrilled to see these speeds, as I've had DSL for the past 10 yrs, but had to stick with basic dsl (768kbps down/384 up). My speeds were usually quite slower since I lived on the outer edge of distance to CO.
I noticed that I'm getting slightly better speeds with IE8 vs Chrome. So far, I'm very satisfied, but will give update in 30 days. Thx.
UPDATE---October 23, 2010
So far, Grande has been very good with downstream speeds. They've fluctuated within the 20+Mbps range. That's very good, as I'm paying for 12Mbps down, but am averaging 18.30Mbps according to Speedtest.net results summary. Upstream speed has been consistent at 1Mbps, which is okay with me, since that's what I'm paying for.
Since last month, I've purchased an LGBD590 dvd player with internet access. Watching internet tv or movie services off the dvd player has been great in combination with the Grande internet speeds. No buffering delays or stops while watching streaming video via dvd player.
I've found that the best speeds (25+Mbps) occur between 10AM-3PM. Other than this, not much else to add. I'll update again next month. Btw, I'm in San Antonio and only test using local test servers.
Comments:
 | | Powerboost your connection is on powerboost....you need to run the same test city several times to get the real speed so power boost will not kick in. | |

| @ hottboiinnc Hi hottboiinnc, I ran 8x via speedtest.net to same city as you suggested...6 were from 20 to 29 and two were 16 & 18. The 16&18 were runs 3 & 5. You make a good point, though, as I've read other users state what you did. I'll be trying other test sites and see how it does morning Vs afternoon & evening. Thanks. | |

| Re: @ hottboiinnc Thanks for the suggestion. I went to the softlayer website and downloaded a 100MB file from Dallas. The speed fluctuated between 1.08MB-1.13MB per second. I don't know what that translates to in Mbps (I'll look it up). Just ran 3 speed tests to a Dallas server and results were 25-27Mbps. So far, I'm still a happy camper with Grande cable broadband. I don't miss the 768kbps DSL I had. I really enjoy the reasonably short time it takes to download movies from Hulu to watch on my tv. I just bought an LG DVD player which has wireless internet access. It connected to my router flawlessly. Bottom line, I'm still getting consistent speeds from Grande @ $25 per month. I'm happy. NOTE: Just noticed your note of "12Mbps" within your last post. Thanks...guess I'm okay then, as I'm paying for 12Mbps | |

I ordered internet access, and Digital cable from Grande Communications due to the fact that it is a tad less expensive that similar services from Time Warner Cable or AT&T. The order process went smoothly, but the install process was poorly coordinated, and the installer did a poor job. Two days after the installer left my home, I started having problems with the internet connection, and cable television. I had to schedule another appointment with Grande, this time, it was for a "repair, service call", basically, the installer did a poor job that had to be fixed.
The internet connection is very reliable, I have experienced no downtime. I am satisfied with the performance of the internet connection.
Grande's high definition digital cable television service is fantastic, the picture quality is superb. I love the fact that Grande carries the NFL network, Time Warner Cable does not, this is one huge selling point for Grande Communications.
Grande's customer service is wonderful, the employees are very friendly & eager to help customers with any problems or concerns.
The bottom line: Grande has been responsive to any problems that have arisen. Digital cable television picture quality is very good, the internet connection is very reliable & performance is good.
Comments:
 | | I agree Grande Sucks. I have the same problems as stated above, and I have also had many problems with their customer service and support people. They are rude, unprofessional, and have no idea as to what they are talking about. I call in three times for one issue and get three different answers. Out of the previous 4 bills I have had to call to correct the billing on 3 of them. If you're smart you will stay away from Grande. | |
| | | At an impass with Grande after a month of bickering About a month ago my Internet service became very erratic. I called up tech support and one support guy told me that he just received word that there was a major rebalancing going on and that customers like me would have a problem for a few weeks.
The rebalncing was over, my pings and the result of speedtests to their servers was all over the place, with downloads from 5 kbs to 14 mbps and uploads from 4 kbs to .9 Mbps. I'm on a plan that offers me 12 Mbps down, 1 Mbps up.
The network people kept working on rebalancing and my speeds became consistent. My downloads are blazing 26 Mbs but my uploads are around .6 Mbs. I'm more interested in uploads because I do a lot of off-site backups.
Tech support/field service decided that this must be a cable problem, so they scheduled a contractor to come and replace my cable. Nice idea but I'm on the 3rd story of an apartment. The apt manager said no way. The contractor did find a conduit full of water. He emptied out the water, replaced the cable. Tech support said everything looked fabulous from their end, run a speed test. 457 kbps.
I can't get to a real technical person to explain to me how a cable could slow down uploads but allow 3 X faster than advertised downloads. It's a single cable, bi-directional.
I'm now at a standstill. Grande says it's my problem because I can't convince the landlord to allow them to run new cable through 3 apartments. I asked for a rebate and reduce fee for my Internet. The supervisor I just spoke to said that .6 Mbs is as fast as anyone would wnnt, so it's not likely I'll get anymore done and not likely I'll get a rate reduction on what I'm paying.
This is one very stupid company. I've dealt with Time-Warner and they were Einsteins compared to Grande's tech support people and supervisors. Rudeness is the order of the day from tech support reps and their supervisors. | |

Grande Communications has provided a very reliable DSL service. I can't recall it ever crashing. And, I've had the service for 8 months.
I have the 6m/768k service. In some areas, they offer up to 24m service.
They provided me the Zhone brand modem. I have a NetGear RangeMax router connected to it.
The only thing I can say is... they need to work on their website. It's about 5 years behind times.

Solid internet service. 1200/1000 service is actually 12000/1500 with downstream bursts to 24000 kbits.
TV service is average. They have been adding more HD channels, but the picture quality has declined noticeably to the point that I'll be shopping for satellite. Channel 5 (KXAS) dies during thunderstorms.
Poor install coordination. Tech showed up late, and it took 3 weeks and several phone calls to get them to come back to bury the cable. When they finally did bury the cable, they broke my sprinkler system in several places. They also removed the line for Time Warner Cable (yes, I have 2 cable providers).
Comments:
 | | KXAS KXAS dies during thunderstorms due to the stations headend equipment. It has nothing to do with Grandecom. | |
