Great support from order process, through install process, through implementation and turn-up. We ordered 1.1M SDSL to run our 10 person office, web hosting, mail hosting, with VPN, RAS (terminal services) and desktop video conferencing planned for the near term.

We were forced to move to another provider when Verio pulled out high speed building access. After considering half a dozen large and small providers with national reputations, we heard of Atlantech by word of mouth. We had some trouble getting responses to pricing and service details with some of the larger providers and had a refreshing surprise when we started evaluating Atlantech's offering late in our process. Their immediate response with the details was wonderful.

The order and install process were helped by their partnership with Covad which offers a good web-based process for checking status at all steps from Atlantech to Verizon to Covad and back to Atlantech. The install time was exactly as committed and the turnup was effortless. Though we had only one IP address at install, we called and got enough static IP addresses to satisfy our needs within two hours.

Mike and his coworkers have always been available when I've had a question. I appreciate the support and technical experience. I am technically competent and Mike has always provided the answers I need very quickly. He also deals well with our Office Manager who doesn't need all the technical details but does need to stay in control and in the loop regarding all of our internet services.

I am very impressed with Atlantech Online, Inc.
I just got my service up and runnning with these guys. They were
great all around. On the service side, I can easily reach my setup
rep and he has been quick with answers to any questions I have had. Now that
the line is in, the performance is great. I was expecting the improvement in
bandwidth (I'm signed up for 1.5mbit instead of the 768kbit I had with my
old ISP) but my latency is almost cut in half also.
I went with the Covad self install and had my IP information a few
days before the install kit arrived. Since my systems were already
configured I was up, running and reading Kuro5hin within 10 minutes of
    opening the box.

I was a happy Capunet customer until I was notified of the planned switch to Earthlink. At that point I said no thank you and after a little research I selected Atlantech as my new ISP.

    I chose wisely!

I am paying the same amount I was paying before and my speed has remained constant (my covad circuit has not changed). I am getting speeds of 1260 / 325 every time I perform a test. The people at Atlantech know their business, they are efficient and return phone calls without delays. I had a few minor problems right after the switch but they were resolved quickly and without further complications.

If you want quality, pay for it and get Atlantech.

I picked Atlantech Online because of competitive pricing and their TOS which allow just about anything within reason, as well as their good record on DSLreports. Their communication before the cutover from my previous ISP (this was a Covad SafetyNet ISP change) was exemplary; I got all the info I needed before I needed it. There was no problem with using the existing ENI SpeedStream 5260, or anything else, for my TeleSurfer PRO service (T-1/384K).

Unfortunately, the actual cutover fell flat. The switch happened about 6:30 Eastern time, and their customer support folks go home at 7. I managed to call about 6:55, since the connection was down, and got hold of a person who told me that Covad's technical support people were only available until 7 and there was nothing Atlantech Online could do about it. I called Covad and found out that that was not true; the person there was able to ping the static IP I'd been assigned - without me telling her what it is - and get responses. The problem appears to be at my ISP, in mapping the Covad circuit to my IP adddress.

Whether Atlantech Online or Covad is at fault, this is extremely poor customer service. I've been in the computer field for 22 years. Not once during that time have I ever even considered making a change with this kind of user impact and then going home immediately afterward not caring whether or not it worked. To me, this is the height of unprofessionalism. I'm seriously considering switching again.

    --------------------

They finally got my connection straightened out about 2:45 the next day. The problem was that the PVC was configured incorrectly at Atlantech's end. I'm still not happy that they do not support new installs better than this: closing 30 minutes after a switch is simply unprofessional.

I opted for the do-it-yourself installation option. It worked out pretty well, in spite of the fact that I knew as much about DSL as I do about 14th century incunabula. I had several computers to hook up -- one linux, the others various flavors of windows. Even before signing the contract I was able to get specific, detailed advice about what router, cables, etc. I would need.

There were a few minor glitches, all resolved very quickly. It's easy to get to tech support by phone. They also respond promptly to email (my preferred mode of handling tech support issues). After I got up and running, actually using the link, I found there was intermittent line degradation. They got that sorted out within 24 hours of my first email on the subject.

One thing I hadn't realized (I told you I knew nothing about DSL, right?) is that you have to put filters on all your analog telephone equipment (phones, answering machines, fax machines, modems, ...) If you get this service you'll be amazed at how many gadgets you have hooked up to the phone line. They send you the filters (four or five of them) in your installation kit. On some of my phones they don't work so well -- there's static on the voice line. On others they seem to work fine. But that's an aside -- it doesn't have anything to do with the DSL provider.

Atlantech is a good company to do business with. I recommend them.

I recently worked through a difficult and eventually successful ADSL installation with Atlantech, and, in particular, Atlantech's representative Chris Pirisino. The project involved the installation of the new line sharing ADSL service for one of our consulting companies clients. As sometimes happens we found ourselves bumping against obstacles which might easily have derailed the installation. During resolution of these problems Chris demonstrated exemplary follow-through, admirable competency, was consistently available and responsive and proved a pleasure to work with. Three cheers for Chris Pirisino and Atlantech for providing the quality or service and expertise we all hope for.

I am moving soon and will let my contract with Atlantech run out. With their $300 relocation fee, it works out to be more cost effective to pick up a new provider. I am keeping my fingers crossed in hopes that the support will be even 1/2 as good as Atlantech's. They were great about calling back and always knowledgeable.

We've been utilizing Atlantech's service for almost two years. They offer
economical prices and fantastic customer service. Michael Fiefer, the
Atlantech service representative that I contact is extremely responsive, and
conscience of his customers needs. Any time I have questions about new
service, billing or general inquiries I always receive a prompt response in
addition to 'follow up'. It is very uncommon to find a provider that offers
reasonable prices and good customer service which is exactly what you get
when you deal with Atlantech Online.

I couldn't figure out how to place a review on your website (with the
    stars).

We have used Atlantech since the end of June 2001. Our previous
provider discontinued DSL service with one-week's notice to their
customers. Atlantech was recommended, as were a couple of other
providers. I was impressed with Atlantech at the outset. The contact
person who called to let us know that we would have to switch providers
(that's right, the previous provider didn't even contact us) was
informative and helpful immediately, taking time with an upset person on
the phone (me!). I called back several times with questions, always got
a live person, and was always treated with respect.

The switch-over went quite smoothly considering some of the other issues
we've had in the past with any kind of "change."

Any issue since we signed up has always been resolved by polite,
competent support people. I'm not a "computer person" when it comes to
the technical stuff, so this kind of support is most appreciated.

The company so far is "five stars" in my opinion.

Update: I should of updated this back when NP went out of business, but oh well. Anyhow, obviously I lost service after NP was shut down. Zyan and InternetConnect (who took on Zyan's customers after Zyan went out of business finally!) basically made no attempts to continue my service. I'm sure it was because I was just a residental customer and my rate was so low they would of lost too much money to keep me on as a customer. Anyhow, I have had to go back to dial-up since then. I've looked into many different option, i.e. Covad though Atlantech again, this was going to be too expensive for the level of service and speed I would get with IDSL, Sat. I didn't want a dish on my house or the high latency, Wireless, so far nothing in my neighborhood; and 2-way cable, I've been calling Comcast@home just about every week for 3 months now and I think they are probably getting sick of me. But the last time I called, they told me within weeks. Yeah right, I'll believe it when I can actually get service. I have pretty much decided to go and try the @home. There is no installation charge or contract to sign up. I'm very concerned about the finanical health of Covad and refuse to deal with Verizon. They are already screwing up my local landline, I don't want to deal with their DSL. This is really too bad, because I would rather have DSL than cable, but I'll give cable a shot and see how things go.

I will write the install portion of my review as a diary.

July 7, 2000: I ordered my IDSL (144/144 service. It was as very long process from there.)

July 26: BA showed up for the first time. Of course they showed up with no advance notice and neither Atlantech or Northpoint (NP) knew or could tell me about it in advance. Luckily, someone was home. But of course, they couldn't finish installing the line. Then the strike happened!

October 5: BA finally came out again and finished the install to my NID.

October 13: BA successfully completed a loop test coordinating with NP.

October 14: Got a call from someone from NP to set up an IW install, made my appointment for October 19. They also said my IDSL bridge will come in the mail, which it did.

October 19: Woohoo! Someone from NP, actually a subcontractor, showed up in the window of time and did my IW. The guy ran Cat. 5 line from the NID and terminated into a jack. I connected the bridge to the jack and my computer. The bridge showed sync with the CO almost right away. I didn't have my TCP/IP numbers and neither did the install guy. He called into NP to say we are ready to ping, but need the IP numbers. The NP tech in turn called Zyan (This is the first time I find out that the line will be carried by Zyan, not Atlantech, if I had known this from the start, I would not of gone with Atlantech) to get my IP numbers. I enter the numbers into my TCP/IP and we are unable to ping. The NP tech said he was unable to build a circuit to my IP and he had to try again later. However, the Zyan tech said he was able to build a circuit. The IW install tech leaves but says, as soon as the NP tech is able to finish, I will have service. He says it won't be necessary for him to come out again, but I will probably still get a call for an IW tech to come out again, because technically, my install isn't finished. Of course throughtout the course of this, Atlantech has no idea this is going on until I call and tell them. So after all this time, I am left with hope that my service will work soon. I am left with checking to see if my DSL works everyday.

October 26: Another IW tech comes out. I tell him that all my IW is done, my bridge syncs with the CO, all I need is someone at Zyan and NP to connect me. He calls in and tries and this time the NP tech says he is able to build a circuit to me, but we are left on hold with the Zyan tech. This is really becoming frustrating now. I feel so close, yet so far from service.

Now I am calling Atlantech everyday at least once a day to try to find out what's going on. Actually, if I had known from the outset, that Atlantech is a third party in this, I might not of gone with them. I did find out that they did this because at the time, Atlantech didn't have a circuit to NP and now they do (this is not true as I have found out later, because of all the problems happening at Zyan, it sounds like the folks at Atlantech are trying to figure out what to do with us NP customers). Finally, on November 3, my service works, just out of the blue! It seems someone from Zyan and NP finally got their act together. I am hoping at some point in the future I will be switched to a circuit that Atlantech has with NP, so they will not be a third party if I have problems in the future with my line (see above, not true!).

So far my service has been excellent. My speeds as tested on this site are 134/137 and I usually get around 16K/sec downloads. I only rated the install lower because of the lack of communication between BA, NP, Zyan, and Atlantech. I realize most of it wasn't the fault of Atlantech, but still I felt the install took way too long, especially the final step, after my IW was done and I had sync to the CO. The tech support is great, it is awesome to be able to call and always talk to a live person or get prompt responces to e-mail questions. I did give a lower rating for the mail, only because, at first I couldn't mail out and later I found out it was because since I'm on Zyan IP, I need to use a different mail and news server. I wish I was told this before.

But overall, I feel my service is great and will never go back to dial-up. If you can get broadband access, get it! And Atlantech isn't a bad place to get it from!

Since I had heard about the problems at Zyan, I contacted people at Atlantech right away. The sales guy told me not to worry, and nothing would be affected. I also emailed their tech support, and they wrote back saying, currently, all customers running on NP are OK, but I might want to apply for new service with Covad in the future. That is not a very comforting thought to have to under go the installation process again. Anyhow, a little bit later, I called into their service department because I had a billing problem and in the course of discussion asked about what they are doing about the Zyan mess. The answer is basically, they don't know right now. All in all, I'm worried everyday that I will hear news that either Zyan or NP is out of business and I will come home to a dead line!

I will post updates later if anything new happens to my service.
