Relaypoint was my last ISP (after two others) but they no longer provide DSL (Shawn was great to work with).

Anyway, I called Atlantech on the 9th of April. I chose them because they had excellent ratings for my area, they had static IPs, and I had a problem going with a company that was named after an amphibian (Toad.net also had great reviews). They were pricier then others but they had what I needed. Some ISPs never even got back to me.

I asked to have my line switched over from Relaypoint on the 24th. I was emailed all the info (IP, etc) but when I tested the line on the 28th, it wasn't working. I sent an email and left a phone message. They have no weekend tech support which sucks.

Apparently it was a Covad routing problem but of course no one at Covad will talk to you directly. You must go through your ISP. So they didn't fix it til 4pm-ish on the 30th.

So far so good. I don't think the installation glitch was Atlantech's fault. I wish they had weekend tech support. It's a little pricey too but if they don't go bankrupt, it will be worth it to not have to switch ISPs again.

    My Other Reviews·Rogers Hi-Speed
    First the negative:

I ordered Northpoint IDSL service on 10/13/2000 and was setup on 11/31/00. I could have been set up a week earlier if the staff at Atlantech Online had notified me of the fact that I had my circuit install done a week ago instead of me waiting to call Northpoint for the inside wiring. Also, they didn't tell me before the order that they resell Zyan IDSL, although it has made no difference in the service, I have a Zyan circuit and a Zyan IP. One honest opinion that I wish to offer Atlantech Online sales is to be more enthusiastic towards residential customers during the pre-sale part of the deal.

    The positive:

I signed up for 144/144K and in all these months have never dipped below 136/132K or so except once when they had some routing problems which also go fixed in a few hours. People there are very helpful: you call in, somebody will pick within TWO rings (and this is not an exaggeration) and usually has the answer to your question. The install process wasn't too bad, 45 days to get service is not too bad when the customer is on the west coast, the ISP on the east coast and things have to be juggled around between Atlantech, Zyan and Northpoint. Whenever I have had problems, be it problems with my NIC or setting up mail or newsgroups ( I have to access my university newsgroups), the support staff at Atlantech have responded to emails WITHIN 40-60 minutes, even on weekends. This feature of the service is the most important to me: to have knowledgeable people to help and get back quickly in case of any problems (in this case very very rare). In my conversation with an Atlantech staff member, he was honest to point out that his job depends on customer satisfaction. I wish that the other ISPs and DSL companies shared this viewpoint and maybe we wouldn't be seeing this market situation.

Bottom line: If you find that AO provides service in your area (they only provide Covad DSL now), my strong recommendation would be to go along with them. Of course, do your own research but I can only speak of my great experience with AO. I will update my review periodically.

Update, April 1, 2001: I lost my service with Atlantech Online with the loss of my NP line. They transferred me to Zyan who was their IDSL partner here in CA. Anyway, that was the end of my relationship with AO. Since I didn't want anything to do with Zyan, I have decided to go with Pac Bell DSL. Final analysis of AO: very good. Go with them if you can get Covad service.

I'll skip the sob stories involving Verizon going on strike and being infuriatingly incompetent afterwards, and I won't bother you with the details about how Zyan's demise made my order lose its place in line with Covad, because these things were out of Atlantech's control. The good people at Atlantech did an admirable job of holding my hand (and enduring my hissy fits) through the entire ordeal. It's been up now for a couple of months and it's been fast and reliable. Good ping rates for Counterstrike, too!

    Hi,

Atlantech inherited my (Covad based) DSL account when my original ISP went
out of business. Switching to Atlantech involved reconfiguring my LAN and
router, getting my domain names rehosted, having DNS revised accordingly,
switching email servers, etc. etc. None of this is rocket science, but
    there's lots to go wrong.

I had expected some glitches along the way, and there were several.
However, we got them ironed out quickly and the bottom line is that I
switched over with only a short connectivity lapse, and (more important)
without any email problems for me or those I interact with.

I've been impressed by three things:

    - Altantech's DSL feels faster/snappier than what I was used to.

    - Unlike my previous ISP, Atlantech has a real support staff and
decent support-management policies/systems. They are pleasant
to deal with and have responded quickly to problems.

    - I had some special circumstances arising from how I was operating
with my original ISP. In two cases, my setup didn't fit the
standard Atlantech deal. However, because they acquired my account
from another vendor, they showed particular flexibility and
were able to adapt the standard situation to meet my needs. I might
otherwise been forced to look elsewhere, but I didn't have to
    because
they went the extra mile. I really appreciated this.

"You get the bandwidth you pay for"
"I didn't switch to them sooner"
"Very well organized DSL provider"
Pre Sales information:

Value for money:

I was forced to switch DSL providers when my initial provider decided to abandon the business. Since I had been treated well and had experienced uninterrupted service for 7 months since the horrifying 40 day install procedure with my original provider, I was a little apprehensive as to what I would have to endure to make the transition.

I was happy to see that Atlantech initiated contact. They were able to answer all my questions in our first phone conversation. It was pleasant to deal with knowledgeable, competent sales staff. My questions went into bandwidth, uptime, tech support, and even installation procedures. All of these were resolved in one easy phone call. I had expressed my concern about only getting approximately 300K of the 768K I was buying from my original provider. I was assured that this new service would indeed yield a faster connection. So, I signed up for the 1.5Mb/s service even though I knew inside it would never be that fast.

Within a few days, we had exchanged all the paperwork necessary to perform the cutover. We scheduled it for the end of the month to make billing easier. Here is how easy it went. I received an email with my IP information and a followup phone call confirming all the dates and data. (very impressive, a followup, that never happens anymore) On the evening of the cutover, I changed my IP, gateway, and mask and waited a few minutes for Atlantech's side to switch. Up came my line. Honestly, it was that easy. Obviously I didn't have to experience any on-site wiring as that had been done before. Nor did I have to worry about a clumsy phone company employee breaking any other services to my home like they did 3 times during my initial install.

Now, it was time to see what this new connection was all about. I downloaded a few files from some trusted, high bandwidth sites, and used the dslreports.com speed test. I couldn't believe that my service was pushing the bandwith it was. I was getting 1.3 to 1.4 Mb/s. It was at this moment that I realize I was being robbed by my old provider. I've only been with Atlantech for a few weeks, but as long as the connection stays up, I will be a loyal customer. They are very responsive to customer requests and they offer the types of services many of us need. (like static IP's)

If customer service is important to you, I recommend Atlantech.

"Your DSL gets TLC."
"Yes!!"
Pre Sales information:

Value for money:

My recent experience with Atlantech Online had to do with a transfer of
service, not the initial installation, which can be a horror of interminable waiting on the part
of the customer, the ISP and Covad while the telephone company does
    its thing.

When I had to switch from my first DSL ISP (that ISP closed its doors
-- it wasn't working for them, financially) I was understandably
concerned. The old ISP promised to do all it could to make the
transition a smooth one. I never had cause to doubt them in
the past, but decided to do my own market research, and after
looking over the providers in the area, thought that Atlantech Online
would be the best choice for me, and not necessarily the new ISP that
was taking over the customer accounts from the old ISP.

I have a residential, small network (one Mac and two PCs), and while
I am not a big bucks business customer, I still need to make frequent
uploads to three sites, plus ever more reliance on e-mail and
research by web surfing. With just these tasks, my DSL gets its
    daily workout.

Unrelated to my choice of Atlantech, and unknown to me, the
new ISP (to which my account was to be transferred from the old ISP)
planned to transfer my account to Atlantech.net (a decision based on an arrangement between the new ISP and
Atlantech, giving Atlantech the Covad customers from the old ISP. As an existing Covad customer, I would
have been sent to Atlantech in any case, even had I not chosen them
    on my own.

Atlantech explained the procedures and sent me the requisite forms to
fill out and return...including the need to either get a release from
the old ISP (which readily complied), or to otherwise explain to
Covad why I needed to switch my account. I was impressed with the
quick response time provided by Atlantech to all my questions. The
tech support staff was extremely patient, and competent. I got
phone calls and return e-mails, as promised, and the time soon came when (via a procedure that I can only imagine being incredibly complicated
and in delicacy, akin to the care with which porcupines mate) my DSL was switched from old ISP to Atlantech.

So far, so good. But as anyone with a network knows, getting one
computer to work is only the first step. What about the other
machines? I was still using the hardware supplied by the former ISP
-- a Sonic Firewall and a Linksys 5 port hub (with problems of its
own), in addition to a Speedstream SDSL 5250 modem. Tech support at
Atlantech worked with me on these network problems, even when they
didn't absolutely have to (they provide the DSL; the network is up to
the customer) in order to get things working, but to no avail. The
most I could do was get one machine hooked up via the hub and
firewall, but even that connection was a bit odd, and it left my
other machines un-networked. It was recommended, after much
troubleshooting, that I go with new hardware. In this department, I
had recommendations from Atlantech and my computer savvy son (an
Atlantech customer himself): Outlook shipped overnight an SMC
combination hub (4 ports) and Barricade firewall. The instructions
(and my son's hand holding) made getting connected so very simple,
and there hasn't been a single murmur of complaint from this little
    network since that time.

Best of all, a seemingly more stable connection is now even less
expensive than the monthly fee I had been paying.

Atlantech gets 5 stars from me.

Using Business SDSL 768/768 and 384/384 accounts + dedicated servers at Silver
    Spring location.

Service has been exceptional. Even when COVAD reneged on setting up an ADSL
account, Atlantech was forthright about the problem. We since went to all
SDSL solutions, given the much improved SLAs that you get with SDSL. Both
DSL installations went without incident. As far as dedicated web hosting,
Atlantech has gone the extra mile in working with us to resolve DNS problems
that we brought upon ourselves, and we now host several of our business web
sites there. The Tech support staff has been very helpful in working with
us to set up our sites on Cobalt LINUX servers collocated in Silver Spring.
Though a few minor config errors have been made on their end, the staff
quickly detected and fixed any misconfigurations, and has hopped when
business operations were at critical points where we couldn't afford to drop
bits. Much credit goes to Eric as our account rep - he's super. Billing and
contracts issues have all gone smoothly. Monthly usage reports are detailed
    and clear.

    Atlantech comes through!

I just experienced a cancellation of my ADSL because of a Covad policy that on your third dispatch of either Verizon or Covad your ADSL account gets cancelled. I was completely shocked when my account was cancelled because I had one earlier outage which resulted in both a Verizon and a Covad dispatch, and now was requiring another dispatch to fix another outage. For a short period I thought I was just dropped off all lists and forgotten about. However, Atlantech came through and has spent a considerable amount of time dealing with us over the last 24 hours.

Atlantech came up with a proposal for new 'line-shared' ADSL since Covad was not offering to work on my current ADSL. The new ADSL was quickly ordered. At the same time I had sent a number of emails to Covad. Amazingly, Covad (after pressure from many places, no doubt) responded by saying they had changed their policy and are not dropping me after all. I am having a Covad technician dispatched to my house to fix my ADSL in 5 days.

I had previously experienced very good support from Atlantech and was relieved when they began making calls to resolve the situation.

My trust in Covad, however, is a bit shaken. It would be nice to see any policies that come from them. However, it seems that even the Covad people that Atlantech talked with were not aware of their own policies (according to the email I received from people at Covad's main office). I realize that Atlantech gets as frustrated with Covad as I do.

Customer service and technical support have been wonderful, to the point
where an engineer has even given me his home number in the event that any
issues were to arise when he was not in the office. As a consultant, I have
had experience with several DSL providers in the Washington DC metropolitan
area, and Atlantech has blown away all their local competition. They have
proven themselves to be highly reliable and dedicated experts in the DSL

The customer service center is amazing... This company has bent over backwards to make my customers happy. I have switched most of my cleints to their service soley on that.

I was a former Bell/Atlantech customer in Arlington, and I moved to Fairfax. I talked first to Atlantech about it, and they said that due to the troubles they had with Bell, they had switched to only using Covad. Since I had such a good experience with them the last time, I kept them going forward. They had to set me up with IDSL because of the fiber, so I have 144 each direction.

Ordered service in August... and then Verizon went on strike. Due to that, and a couple Verizon goofs, it took a while to get hooked up. However, the whole time Atlantech kept me in the loop onto what was going on, including mailing me the customer logs so I could see everyone's comments on the matter.

When Verizon finally did get out here, Atlantech had Covad out within 3 days after to finish the install, including coming out on the Saturday before New Years. I have a 16 address IP range, and Atlantech has been so good as to work with me in that I like to do my own routing (not a necessity, just something I wanted to do) and my own reverse DNS. Their technical support has been great and easy to work with, and the whole thing was a positive experience. They put in a Netopia 3100 router, and I've had nothing but success with it.

I can't sing their praises enough -- thanks again guys!
