I was a customer of Bell Atlantic and was fed up with their service and being down as much as I was up. I started to look for a different provider and found Atlantech.
From Charles Shapiro who answered all my questions when I first called, to Ted who carried on one day when I called and Charles was not available, to Dave who helped me with the few technical questions I had. Namely what were the e-mail and newsgroup setting.
When I first decided to go with them I was told it could take up to 30 days to get my new service. I agreed to this as it seems to be the norm around here. After two weeks the phone company came out and installed a new line (I was using a split phone pair with Bell Atlantic), I called Atlantech to tell them and they told me it could take from 5 to 10 business days to get the DSL installed. Six business days later the installer was at the house and the service was installed.
There were some small problems, the installer from Covad was late, he said it was because of car problems and traffic, but at least he called me to let me know. When the install was done, we could not connect. He called and found out that something was screwed-up in my settings at Covad and that they would work on it. I wondered if I was just going from one bad company to another, but the next day Dave called me at work and told me that tech support was aware of my problem and working on it and to call them when I got home. When I got home I checked the system and found it was working fine. I called Atlantech and informed them of that. The next day they again called me to make sure that everything was still fine. They had left the trouble ticket open even though I had called them to say it was okay, just to make sure it stayed up, only after I told them it was still fine did they closed the ticket.
After going through almost 5 months of Bell Atlantic's so called "tech support" this was very refreshing.
All in all I was and am very satisfied with the service and company so far, if they keep up like this then they will have a customer for a long time.

This is a review for Atlantech Online located in Silver Spring, MD.
I found Atlantech Online when I was searching for DSL for my company. From the moment I contacted them I have been very pleased. My Customer Service rep, Charles Shapiro, was very helpful and his attitude from the beginning was always "What I can I do to get your business?". Unlike a lot of places, the customer service did not stop after he did get my business. In addition to my company's DSL service, Atlantech Online now host the company's websites as well as provides my personal DSL service & web site hosting.
The tech support went above and beyond the call of duty helping me configure the Firewall for the router by helping find solutions around the AOL dial adapter which required reconfiguring the router for me several times so that I could test each solution until we found one.
Their web hosting boasts the same customer & tech support service.
I recommend Atlantech Online to all those that ask my opinion &/or advise for DSL/ISP services.
Sincerely,
Alexandra C. Lockett Web Master MarkSport, Inc

As a Systems Integrator (in business 7 years), we install about 40 dedicated internet connections for our clients per year. The first several years of our operation, we worked with half a dozen local and national ISPs. Hopping from ISP to ISP was not our preference, but we could not find an ISP that provided the high level of customer service and the scope of internet products our clients required.
We were lucky to stumble upon Atlantech Online about 4 years ago. Our relationship has turned into a true partnership. Atlantech Online has the products our clients require, but more importantly, they have provided customer service that goes way beyond what we've experienced with other ISPs.
Most ISPs have very rigid procedures, you are required to work around their way of doing business. Atlantech understands the needs of businesses and has provided products and service that the mammoth ISPs are too bulky to consider.
In addition to using Atlantech Online for our clients, we use them for our own DSL connectivity and I subscribe to Atlantech DSL for my home-office also.

Review by Don Sparkman:
I have a nine person design firm in Washington D.C. and with our growing Web design client list, I am constantly asked to refer my clients to a first rate ISP. I tell them that Atlantech is the best we have found. Other companies have ignored service requests and we have moved around quite a bit in the past three years -- but not now.
Atlantech has given us seamless and reliable service -- so much so -- I am seriously considering becoming an Atlantech reseller.

I currently use Atlantech 640/90 BA ADSL at my home office.
I first signed up for BellAtlantic's Inforspeed DSL, using BA as the ISP, but due to the problems with the WinPOET software (culminating in 2 weeks of unavailable "always on" service), I switched ISPs to Atlantech. This seemed reasonable, as I would be reusing the Westell bridge and existing lines, and there would be no delays for installation. The Atlantech sales guy said lots of customers were migrating for similar reasons.
Well, he also told me that Atlantech was $19 (+$40 for BA), and that they supported static IP addresses. He also claimed that I would get much faster download speeds, but I was already getting 640k (when it worked). And best of all he promised me no more waiting on tech support. He even recommended I visit dslreports to check out their glowing reviews. But reality was so different...
The day came when I was supposed to be switched, and I called Atlantech, but they had no record of me. Well, I needed to remove WinPOET and configure my IP addresses. The guy I talked to first had to set up an account (should have been done already), and had me configure DHCP. DHCP is not used for static IP addresses. Apparently Atlantech supports static IP addresses, but only if you pay them an extra $10 per month. This is a problem, as my computer will always be up, so they cannot reuse that address anyways, so why not dedicate it to me. He said I would have no problem with DHCP and I should try it.
The next day (it takes time you know), I try out the Atlantech DSL, but nothing is working. I cannot even ping their router. The problem is that I have two ethernet NICs, and only one is active, so I have to remove one. But now I have software which fails - this modeling software uses IP-based copy protection, and between boot time and when I try and run it, my IP address has changed (DHCP...). Oh, well that won't be the last problem.
The first week I use it I start to notice speed problems. The DNS servers stop responding, or take up to 30 seconds to resolve a name. And some sites don't respond, or take forever. I installed Visual Route to perform traceroutes, and find that they use AboveNet for most routes to the west coast. And AboveNet has serious problems at 9:00 and 17:00, when their single OC12 is saturated to above 95%. Ping response time goes to hell in a handbasket (400ms to 1500ms). And I even had some sites not responding because AboveNet's routers had loops in their routing tables. I sent a few emails, and received a prompt reply that they could not do anything about it. I responded that they could switch backbone providers, but Atlantech did not respond to that suggestion.
Then on Saturday, I lose the connection while browsing. After I rebooted my NT workstation, I had no IP address, as the DHCP server failed to respond. Looking back through the event log, I see that the DHCP server had failed at 23:00 on Friday night, and the DHCP lease (only 72 hours!!) expired at 13:12 on Saturday. Well Atlantech does not offer night or weekend support for their residential customers. That's strange, as that's exactly when most of the customers will be in their residence...
On Monday I get through and am told that the problem is BellAtlantic obviously, as Atlantech was being swamped with calls from their BA customers. Atlantech requested that I call BA to get the problems resolved. CALL BELL ATLANTIC!! - That's why I left them! After 1.5 hours with BA, mostly on hold, I give up and tried somethng - I manually set the IP address to one I had been using when it was working. And it worked!!! The problem was the DHCP server all along, not BA.
They did call me several hours later to inform me that they fixed the problem by rebooting the router (which is also the DHCP server). Looking back, it took them around 60 hours to correct this problem, with plenty of finger-pointing at BA in the meantime, all the while not answering the phones because of their TS hours.
So what does Atlantech offer over BA: Atlantech BA Fast speed (except at peaks) Fast Speed (except when down) No weekend support Wait 2 hours for support Sends you to BA for support Doesn't resolve problems Crappy DHCP Crappy WinPOET relatively cheap cheaper
I sent an email to them describing these problems, but I did not get any response, except for a $1.66 service rebate due to the outage time.
I'll stay with them for a short time to see if the situation improves, but otherwise it looks like I may have to find another DSL ISP, but this time I won't tie myself to BellAtlantic partners.

Please see fit to publish this review on your site, but please DO NOT publish my e-mail address on this site.
I called the Sales Manager at Atlantech earlier this week to thank him for efficiently alleviating the stress I had managed to accrue over the past few months in dealing with my former ISP (Bell Atlantic). He told me that the best way to thank him for his excellent service was to leave a review at dslreports.com, so that is exactly what I am doing. This is also an indicator of just how highly I regard the entire crew at Atlantech for providing a "one stop shop" for all my networking needs. Atlantech was understanding of my situation from the beginning ( I have 1.6m service from Bell). I am a Network Consultant with an international consulting firm and like most networking professionals, my life at work is much like my life at home. Atlantech's roots are with the business community, and they are providing "business class" service to residential customers. Atlantech provides everything I need and nothing I don't. One of the things I do need are static IPs and the ability to buy more. One of the things I don't need is a Bell technician in my house asking me about how to get his MCSE and installing a WinPoet client and custom Bell software so that I have to log on and listen to James Earl Jones saying "Welcome to Bell Atlantic"....give me a break. Well I got a break, Atlantech provides service through Covad (which now I am considering switching to) and also supports Bell service. I was on the phone with customer service at Atlantech with no wait at all, and up in running in no time. I have not had one problem with this service and it is actually faster than the speeds I was getting from Bell...go figure. I feel as though I have a relationship with Atlantech as funny as it sounds..., believe me when I say that your relationship with your ISP will become increasingly important in the near future. I also hope to bring more business to Atlantech in the near future, referring clients for access, and friends for web/domain hosting. If after you read this and you decide to give Atlantech a try, I hope you get the opportunity to speak with their Sales Manager and see how quick he is to recognize your problems and your needs. I didn't scratch the surface on the problems I have had with Bell, and I will stop short of capping "Death to the Monopoly", but be forewarned. Best of luck to Atlantech and to the growing numbers of broadband consumers.
Thank you
Eric Leigh Washington D.C.

I am not often impressed about service in the computer industry, and especially not in the internet arena. I've been a systems analyst and programmer consultant for over 20 years.. I decided that Instead of constantly complaining, I would just make sure to thank those who provide excellence and pass the good word on to others. This is one of those times.
Atlantech, my SDSL isp in the Washington DC area has provided me with one of the best service experiences I've had in 6 years of internet development. I emailed John Fineran my questions, he called me within the hour, answered all of my questions, responded to 3 more inquiries, signed me up
2 weeks later, the line was in as originally scheduled, (and the Bell Atlantic guy gave me a great url for restoration parts for my 81 Camaro). 1 week later, Covad installed the Netopia router the tech had a little problem because SDSL is so new here, and he had never installed one so he called their lead tech who was there within half an hour. An hour later, I was surfing. Quickly. (BTW, the original tech did everything right his laptop config file was corrupted)
Doesn't get much easier than that and I've told you everything, good and bad, about what happened.
Just wanted to pass along a goof thing. Enjoy!
Chuck

I must say I am wondering whether I should post, because these folks could fast become popular and I want them as my little secret. After enduring months of trouble with Bell Atlantic as an ISP, I finally switched to Atlantech. They are WONDERFUL!!
Instead of BA's lousy dialer, I now how static ip addresses, a fast connection, and something less than the 25 hops I was getting with BA..ATlantech's Tech support is very responsive and really worked quickly to get me switched over after BA accidentally "deleted" my BA account 1 week ahead of schedule. Two thumbs up all around.

Atlantech does business the way people want and need it to be. Painless, prompt, friendly, and they know the business... This all adds up to Quality.
They provide top quality customer service and reliable Internet connections. The circuit was installed when they said it would be with no hassle at all.
They have a fantastic sales and tech support team that I know other IPS's must envy.
I ordered 144 SDSL with static IP's and they delivered on time and at the quoted price. I went with SDSL vs. ADSl due to some business needs that I have and found the Atlantech staff knowledgeable and helpful.
Great job Atlantech...

(This review is a reflection of numerous Atlantech installations.)
Atlantech is, in a word, painless.
As contractors, we can choose from any number of DSL providers. While DSL is rather inexpensive, it's still seen as a major investment to our customers. If we recommend the right one, we're a hero. Pick a bad one and we're probably not going to get any more business from the client. After dealing with many other providers over time, we have sorted out the bad apples, and Atlantech is the company we call before anyone else.
All circuit availability inquiries are answered within minutes. Once you fill out the application, you have nothing else to worry about. They handle everything in a prompt and professional manner. Once the circuit is in, it never, EVER goes down. DNS servers are accurate. Bandwidth is constant. The customer is happy. We look good.
Best of all, their prices are extremely competitive. Normally, the lowest priced solution is going to cost the most to replace within a few weeks. Atlantech pays careful attention to the regional pricing and keeps their rates about as low as anyone else worth using would charge.
Sure, there are a few cheaper companies, but they, in a word, suck.
