    My Other Reviews·Comcast
I have had VoicePulse for 2 weeks now. Here's my run down:
    1) Web site is not popcorn to the eyes but very well organized and extremely easy to use.
    2) Installation was a peice of cake. Able to use within minutes. Because VP puts you in the system before the device even arrives you can configure the voicemail, speed dial, filters etc. ahead of time. I also changed the settings on my router that they recommended before the device arrived.
    3) Call quality has been outstanding. Better then my pots line.
    4) Reliabilty: No problems so far.
    5) Haven't had a need for tech support so far but did send 2 emails with some basic questions which were answered very fast. They also have a tech support phone number now.
    6) Can't beat it. Had Talk America local plan for 19.99 a month plus the numerous charges and my bill averaged about 38 a month. Now I pay $15 for unlimited local and regional calls plus 200 minutes of long distance. One of the big voip companies I checked had only 1 extra area code for their regional plan. I have 6.

Their features are great and I've checked them all out except 3 way calling and conference calls, and they all work. I get a kick out of the filters. If someone calls that you do not want you can set up the phone so they always get a busy signal, an out of service message or even a recording from the rejection hotline, everytime they try to call again. There's also a feature that will block every number that is hidden with private or unavailable from ringing your phone. The caller is given the option of entering their number to continue. Outstanding features and these all work
One thing they were not offering at this time was LNP. But I liked the number they gave me so much I'm keeping it.
    The final word is excellent!

    Update 8/30/04
It's been a month now and all is wonderful. Everything I said in my original review stands. No problems. Has been flawless.

    update 03/31/05
Well I've been using VoicePulse for 8 months now and I have to say I like it more then I did since the last review.
The service has been excellent and extremely reliable. I forget that it's VOIP and not a pots line of which I cancelled 7 months ago.
All the features I use have worked flawlessly since day one.
Final word is still excellent and add outstanding!

    update 09/04/05
Had VoicePulse for over a year now and as happy as ever with it.
A few minor burps over the year but nothing major. Has been flawless and just as reliable as the pots line when I had it.
    Still recommend very highly.

    update 06/21/06
On 7/29/06 It will be 2 years since I first began using VoicePulse. As I said before I still couldn't be any happier with this service.
For 2 yrs. it has been almost flawless. The Features are still Outstanding, the sound qualities are awesome.
VoicePulse has been Fantastic for me!

    03/15/2008 Update:
Going on 4 years with VoicePulse now.
    Still running and working perfectly.
Have had better service and quality then I ever did with landline service.
    Still a Keeper.

    Update 08/01/2008

On 7/29, I have been using VoicePulse for 4 years now.
What can I say that hasn't been said prior?
Everything I said good about VP still stands.
    Call quality is extremely good.
Calling features are the best around.
My favorite is still the calling filters which allows me to block any individual number I so chose. From a constant busy signal to a number not in service or even the rejection hot line. Awesome!
I've had fun with this one and if you so desire you will be notified by e-mail that the number tried calling.
Call manager is another good one.
Check out their website for a complete list of features.
These run alot of money if purchased from AT@T for example.
I'll be with VoicePulse for another 4 years and beyond.
Thumbs up to VoicePulse and their staff.

    Update 07/31/2009

This past Wed., 07/29, I have been with VoicePulse for 5 years now.
I really have nothing to add to what I've said before.
Great service and excellent reliability is still the norm.

The one feature I am disappointed about is the lack now of e-mail responses if someone tried to call with a blocked number.
Their service department says they plan on putting back this feature.
    We shall see.

    Still a big thumbs up!!

Update 6/21/09 Just an update regarding the update of 5/28. Ever since I set a static IP address for the TA, the service has been perfect. Not a glitch.

Update 5/28/09 Had an issue where I would not get a dial tone the first time I attempted to make a call, but after hanging up and trying again, I'd get the dial tone. Also noticed that occasionally the person I was calling would hear silence during part of the conversation. Did a search on the VP website and found comments where the dial tone issue could be caused by dynamic IP addressing and one should set a static IP address for the TA. Made the switch to static IP addressing and so far, no dial tone problems and no lost conversations. Still pleased with the service and have no intention of lowering my ratings after this minor issue.

Update 4/13/09 One of my pet peeves is telemarketing and even though I am on the Do Not Call List, we still get a few unwanted sales calls, political calls and charity calls every week. Some are exempt and some just violate the law. So for the past two years, when I would get a call from a telemarketer (who never leaves a voicemail message, they just hang up and call back later), I would block their number with a 'not in service' message. I had accumulated 85 filters doing this. I got to the point where it would be easier just to create a filter for each of our friends to allow their call to go through (a White List) and send everyone else to voicemail. Then the pesky telemarketers could not ring our phone.

So I made a spreadsheet of our relatives and friends who are most likely to call, and once I had their phone numbers in the proper format (1xxxxxxxxxx), it was an easy process to copy and paste the new numbers into the existing filters and change the action from 'not in service' to 'always ring'. Then I created a filter to send everyone (else) to voicemail.

What a pleasant change. Whenever the phone rings, no need to check the Caller ID to be sure it is someone we want to talk to. No more telemarketers!

When I do get a voicemail, VP sends me an email with the number of the caller on it. If I miss one of our friends/relatives, it is an easy matter to add their number to the White List. I finally feel that this phone service, that I pay for, is mine, and mine alone, and doesn't belong to the general public to call whenever they feel like it.

I have read about other VoIPs with even more elaborate White List capabilities, even basing actions on the time of day. (I think my scheme with VP defeats the Scheduled Do Not Disturb). But none of them allow so much for the mere $15.89 that I pay for the Local Plan. What a deal!

Update 4/5/09 Over two years of exceptional service.

With all the changes dslreports has made recently, I just got around to seeing your post. Hope the delay didn't cause any problems. Can't answer with 100% confidence, but VP had no problem transferring my number from CV. The guy at CV told me they would have trouble porting it back if I wanted to return to ATT. If you go to the VP website and poke around, there is a tool that tells you if VP can port your number. Do that to be sure.

    Service Outtage

Their service had not been perfect for us. Perhaps you are closer to their servers. We've had several multi-day outtages,
the most recent one a 4-day with no inbound service. They told us a "local" provider was responsible. I find that difficult to believe, but even if it is true, they should have
some redundant providers there in our 512 area code.

We've had several other multi-day outtages and most of those were some "routing" problem on the Voicepulse side.

I’ve been a VoicePulse customer for the last five years. The service has generally been very good and call quality has also been consistently high. Nevertheless for the last six months I experienced chronic problems with some IVR systems recognizing DTMF tones correctly. A battery of tests confirmed that the problem was not specific to my phone, ISP or adapter. Even VoicePulse was able to independently reproduce the problem. Last month I learned that despite what I had been told for five months by technical support nothing other than the call routing being tweaked once was ever done about it. "Still under investigation" is merely their euphemism for unresolved and not actively being pursued.

Be aware that according to the Terms of Service, if you cancel the service the adapter provided by VoicePulse must be returned “with all original packaging, documentation and accessory materials” packaged according to according to the requirements stipulated in Paragraph 10.6 within fourteen days for the $39.99 termination fee to be refunded.

Note that the OP said he was with VP for three years. Now all plans have an activation fee. The only deal you can get is a 'competitive upgrade' if you are already with a major VoIP and switch to VP's $24.99 plan. You get $50.
But don't let the $29.99 activation fee stop you. The service is well worth it. Consider the $14.99 plan, since the 'local calling area' is your area code and all adjacent area codes (in most cases). This may make the 200 minutes of LD adequate (you can use about 456 minutes of LD before you would pay more than the $24.99 plan), and you would recoup the activation fee in three months.

6/2009- all is good, best VoIP Company out there

    5/2007
Overall Voicepulse served us well however we recently got Fios Triple-play so I just canceled Voicepulse for Broadband however I still have VoicePulse Connect.

    5/2005
I was just prompted with a “How about a review or review update” while logging on www.dslreports.com, well here it is. The service has been very stable and well worth every penny, if anyone is checking these reviews and is entertaining the thought of VoIP look no further. If you have a stable ISP, good cabling for you LAN, and a decent phone and the ability to configure your router and/or firewall if necessary you will be very happy with this company.

    11/20/04
This will be the third time (and last time I hope) I’ve changed VP rating. Long story short I was very happy with the features and service when I first signed up. Then I started getting an occasional echo so I sent the borrowed spa2000 back and purchased my own spa3000 because I thought it would correct the echo, plus I would have 911 ability via the POTS line on the spa3000... the spa3000 was useless as far as the VP features go,, so after 90 days I gave up waiting for spa3000 functionally. VP sent me back another spa2000 and all is good again.

I joined Voicepulse after leaving ATT Callvantage and all I can say is I wish I had made the switch sooner. I have the $15 plan as I don't usually call long distance and if I do I just use my cell. Service is great, took about 25 days to get number ported from ATT Callvantage but no problems with the port. Calls are crisp and clear. Really like the call filter options.

Switch now, you won't regret it

I recently cut my connection to Vonage in favor of and Asterisk system running on an otherwise unused computer. As part of my setup I use VoicePulse for many outgoing calls. I do not use VoicePulse for incoming calls at all and instead delegate this to Callcentric. The main reason I did not go with VoicePulse for incoming service is that they charge a significant amount to subscribe to a failover service that others, including Callcentric, include for free.

VoicePulse provides excellent "copy and paste" snippets of Asterisk configurations that require minimal alteration to be useful: these are already preconfigured with your connection information. In particular they provide an API that allows asterisk to look up the price of a given call in real time. I use this directly to test the current VoicePulse price with a fixed price provider, Vitelity. About half the time VoicePulse wins and I place the call with them.

I've had NO problems with VoicePulse connections. I'm very happy with how this has turned out.

    My Other Reviews·RoadRunner Cable
I was with another service that started rapidly going downhill in the stability department and lagging behind providing features that were important to me. Mostly, I wanted, aside from basic reliability, 7 digit dialing, Caller ID with Name, voice mail that WORKED and a LOCAL telephone number, so that friends and family wouldn't have to call a city, long distance, 2 1/2 hrs. away. I bought a Sipura 2000 from Voxzilla, and it came with a coupon for a FREE trial from VoicePulse with all activation charges waived. I decided to try something different and give it a try. They activated me immediately, and gave me a LOCAL number in my town. Much to my amazement, I was TOTALLY blown away. It was as different as night and day from the other service! I not only had the features I wanted, but every conceivable telephone feature possible. Check out their feature list, and you'll see what I mean, as I couldn't possibly list them all here. They ALL work. Perfectly. We've totally forgotten that we're even on VoIP at all! It works that well. After a few months, I ordered another number with their Open Access Plan, in another area code where I have friends for only $5.00 a month. There's no "junk fees" added onto their rates, like my former service started adding. Everything works as advertised, customer support is STELLAR, and in New Jersey, USA with knowledgeable, efficient staffing. They've made a BIG FAN out of me, and I heartily recommend VoicePulse to ANYONE wanting VoIP service that's painless, and does everything it's supposed to do... just like the wired POTS service you're used to. It's companies like VoicePulse that will bring VoIP into the mainstream, and make 100 year old telco technology obsolete.

UPDATE 08/17/05: The service continues to be SPECTACULAR. I've since added an Open Access line on another Sipura. Their support people are highly helpful and extremely friendly, resolving problems with efficiency. There have been a couple of minor system outages for some subscribers, but only one affected me. Having been with other providers, I don't have a problem with this... as I know it could be MUCH worse. Call quality is perfect, features work INCREDIBLY well and the price is right. We really have totally forgotten that we're not on POTS, it's that reliable.

UPDATE 12/13/05: Recent upgrade to Voicemail system has certainly made the service flawless. I've recommended VP to several others over the last few months after they've tried other services, and they share my enthusiasm. Their customer service and tech support continues to be top notch, as well.

UPDATE 02/18/06: I suppose I'm just spoiled! I can't imagine VoIP service being any better than this. Outstanding reliability, support and call quality. You can't ask for anything more than those things, worth every penny!

UPDATE 05/11/06: Service continues to be solid as a rock. I can't possibly wish for anything more than what VoicePulse offers. It's not #1 in customer ratings for nothing! Perhaps my only wish is that there was some kind of customer referral incentive, as I've signed MANY people up to the service. :-( Maybe Ravi could spring for a nice high end two line multi handset phone?

UPDATE 12/12/06: VP is BORING! No outages, perfect quality, no drama, no problems, no glitches, nothing to tinker with. Just perfect phone service, period. I have forgotten what it was like to have problems with a telephone. It's just always there. Thank you for being the BEST, VoicePulse! I have recommended to MANY people and they are ALL as enthusiastic as I am.

UPDATE 02/16/07: For longevity and reliability, they have NO peer. This IS THE VoIP service for consumer telephone. I've recommended even more folks to them, and they are SO happy to have ditched their former service. You don't know how good the technology can be until you've lived with VoicePulse in your home. Switching to VP was the best decision I've ever made in my life... but don't tell my wife that... she thinks it's marrying HER.

UPDATE 07/18/07: No drama, no outages, no problems, ever. It just works! Everyone I've recommended to VP has been 100% satisfied, particularly the ones that were lured into "bargain basement" fly-by-night deals that gave away free phones, promised the World and never delivered. The English-speaking, US-based, knowledgeable techs are the best, bar none. In my house, it's just "the phone". VP would be a bargain at any price! I've even forgotten how long I've been with them, could be 3, 4 years. I forget. It's just perfect.

UPDATE 01/24/08: The lack of stimulating drama continues. (YAWN!) It's a full-featured phone. It just plain works. "If you've tried the rest... try the BEST, VoicePulse!" That's about all I can add to everything else I've said in previous reviews. Love it!

UPDATE 08/05/08: My 5th year with VoicePulse! Again, there is NOTHING at all that I can say that I haven't already. It's the BEST, PERIOD. I wouldn't switch to another service even if they GAVE it to me for FREE! (They'd have to PAY me, actually, on top of FREE service... )

UPDATE 02/12/09: VoicePulse continues to impress beyond belief. Their techs will bend over backwards to assist in even the most minor problems. Don't even think about toying around with the latest "VoIP du Jour". This is as good as phone service gets, period. I only wish there were ratings higher then 5 for this service.

    UPDATE Feb 8, 2009

The website had a major facelift recently. It looks much nicer; however, one significant piece is still missing. I am using Local + 200; however, there is no way to search for long-distance calls.

Additionally, I would hope that by now they could open their lines for peering. Unfortunately, only Voicepulse connect allows peering; not the regular plans.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------

I switched from BroadVoice to VoicePulse and the main result after 6 weeks - I don't need to worry how is my phone service. VoIP stopped being the subject of jokes (at my expense) during dinner conversations.

I didn't have any startup costs (since I had my adapter from Voxilla), and I had a coupon for one month free - which is actually the second month that is free.

So, with great quality and low price - what's there more to ask for? First, VoicePulse locks your adapter; so in order to start service I had to call support, he did some magic, and 5 minutes later I had the service. That said, VoicePulse is good at not impacting line 2 of my SPA-2002 (domain and STUN settings are shared, so they have no choice). So, my first wish is for "Open Access" not to cost extra.

Second, the Voicemail management is pathetic. You can get WAV in email, but there is no way to delete it through the web. And there is no envelope information on the IVR. And you cannot get rid of MWI (studder tone) until you delete the messages. My first Octel 20 years ago was much better.

Call forwarding cost extra on my local plan, and some features (line naming, outgoing caller id selection, multi-ring) only make sense if you have multiple numbers with them. However, multiple line support adds clutter and clumsiness to user interface. And generally, web site needs a major face lift.

Some common features - call transfer, three-way calls - are missing. I would rate these features way above "do not disturb" - after all, you can always use "ultimate do not disturb" aka turn off.

I like one feature that I didn't see elsewhere - "Contacts". All incoming cell phone show "Cell phone" as CID name. By entering contacts I can make it work like "cell phone handset" - that is, if it matches the number in the address book, it shows the associated name that I entered; not nameless "Cell Phone".

Finally, international rates are quite high; but since I am using another provider on Line 2 for international calls - I don't care that much.

I had Sunrocket a couple years back before getting Voicepulse. I have had them now for over a year without any issues. I like that you can use your own SIP device if you have one or want to buy one. I was kind of upset that Voicepulse would not give me the username and password to my own device so I could update the firmware on it. They told me that I could have the user and pass after I cancelled the service. I do not need to update the firmware but would like to. I just see that I own the device and pay for service, I should have access to it!

Overall Voicepulse is great. I have 2 lines. One is the $15 a month limited plan and I also have an open access plan for $10 a month. Both work great. So I have 2 lines for $25 a month with tons of features which Verizon cannot touch for less than $75 monthly.

    Call quality

Never had a problem with call quality with my VoicePulse once I cleaned up the rats nest of phone wiring in the house and ditched a noisy cordless phone. IMHO, there are so many possible sources of noise and interference on the line (phones, wiring, Internet connection and service), that it is fallacious to imply that bad voice quality at times is VP's fault without explanation.

    UPDATE - 12/4/08:

I am upgrading some of my ratings. Service has been great again for awhile now. Any technical glitches I had earlier this year are gone. And when during the summer I was having an audio drop problem the VP folks helped me diagnose it and trace it to my ISP. They provided me the tools to prove the problem to the ISP so I could force them to address it. Once my ISP fixed the packet loss problem (a long process) my VP calls were again pristine.

    UPDATE - 2/11/08:

I am unhappily downgrading my VoicePulse ratings due to longtime problems that they are unable to resolve. While they continue to be responsive to trouble tickets by calling immediately, they are unable to fix the issues.

My biggest problem is that in most long conversations I will inevitably have a 5 second period of silence where I cannot hear the other person but they can hear me. I have learned to just let it go and hope I can pick up on what the other person is saying when the audio resumes. VP warmly hears my complaints and just keeps asking if the problem has gone away. It does not go away and I don't have the stamina to keep bugging them about it. They simply show concern but do not solve the problem.

I've also had an issue where my voicemail messages get cut off. The message gets sent to me via an e-mail where I am told that it is 30 seconds long, for example. The attached audio clip ends up being only 6 seconds with the message clearly truncated prematurely. The message I hear via the phone is also the truncated 6 second version.

The voicemail problem occurred a few months ago. VP researched it and asked if it happened again the following week. When it did not they closed the ticket. It happened again in January and the same process occurred with VP. They ask if it happens again and when it does not they close the ticket. They acknowledge that their engineers "look into it" but change nothing in the end.

VP service is certainly usable but not perfect with issues like these.

    UPDATE - 2/26/07:

Updating the price again. VoicePulse added 6% to their prices on 1/1/07 to cover the cost of the Federal Universal Service Fund. The $24.99 plan is now $26.49. I'm not thrilled about the price increase but all of the VOIP companies are now adding the add-ons so one has to accept it.

The service remains stellar - I cannot remember the last time I dealt with customer support.

    UPDATE - 6/5/06:

Simply updating my monthly cost to $25. I dropped the virtual number and so the cost went down.

    UPDATE - 3/30/06:

Just an update to note that 911 is now working on my line. This service is now complete for me. I am still very happy with VoicePulse after 8 months of using it as a complete replacement for a POTS line. The reliability, voice quality, price, customer support and feature set are superb.

    ORIGINAL REVIEW:

I have been using VoicePulse for over 4 months now and it has been wonderful. My callers and I cannot tell that I am using VOIP - the sound quality is excellent.

I ordered the service online on a Friday and the equipment arrived the following Tuesday (four days including the weekend). Set-up was a breeze and it was working within minutes. After a few days I decided to port over my landline number. While VoicePulse said the process would take a month, the number ported over in 13 days. I am using the Sipura SPA 2002 "borrowed" from VoicePulse. The device is small and I have not had to reboot it at all since installation - it just keeps on humming. I am using a cable modem broadband connection at 10 Mbps down and 800 Kbps up.

While I particularly wanted the great Anonymous Call Rejection feature that VoicePulse provides, I have found myself using the flexible and powerful Filters as well.

One of the best aspects of the company is the superb customer support. Phone support is only available on weekdays until 7pm. This is not a problem, however, because technicians respond very quickly to problem tickets initiated through the online support system. Any ticket receives BOTH a telephone call response as well as a follow-up e-mail. It is almost embarrassing to have a rep call me after mentioning a minor issue in online support, but call you is what they do. Problems are immediately addressed and resolved by interacting with just one individual - no need to switch departments or speak with "Level 3" as with other companies. Anybody who answers your call can and will help you.

My monthly cost is $29.98 which includes $4.99 for a virtual number. No taxes are added at all.

    regarding your update of 2/11/08

Wondering if the 5 second lull is a call-waiting call breaking in? Can you test it by disabling call waiting? (Keep in mind that it takes five minutes for the change to become effective).

As far as voicemail is concerned, I personally don't like it and only use it when ignoring a call waiting call or if the power goes out. Otherwise, we have an answering machine (they are cheap nowadays) that is a bit easier to use.

Hope things get straightened out for you. When we had a glitch in service a few weeks ago, I started thinking what to do if VP went downhill. There just isn't any VoIP out there with fewer complaints and better cost, and I really don't want to go back to a 'landline' with all the taxes and fees. But our service has been back to perfect since then.

Re: regarding your update of 2/11/08

Lenagainster: The lull definitely is not call waiting. Call waiting makes a loud noise and this is just a period of no sound at all. Further, my call logs do not show any call waiting calls and none of these lulls have resulted in a voicemail message from a caller that I did not answer. This problem has actually been going on for over a year. And it does not happen with my ViaTalk VOIP service so it is definitely caused by VoicePulse.

I too use an answering machine in most cases. Like with you, my voicemail only kicks in when I do not answer a call waiting tone or if two folks call at the same time.
