I signed up for VoicePulse close to a year ago because both VoicePulse and Vonage were in NJ and Vonage was almost twice as expensive. Right off the bat, VoicePulse has always had more features than any of the other providers I have looked at and they continue to do so. They always offer the newest adapters, the most off-the-wall (in a good way!) features and the price stays the same. I remember when Vonage dropped the price of their plans by $1 and added a $1.50 "fee" to the bill and tried to pass it off as a price reduction!!! None of that with VoicePulse - I think they're the only provider that doesn't charge a junk fee (Vonage does it, BroadVoice does it, others as well). In addition, they keep adding features but never charge extra for it which is why I say you get the most for your $$$ with VoicePulse.
I gave them a ding for Call Quality because I was having an issue a few weeks ago, but I notified them and they seem to have fixed it. I'll try it out for a few more weeks and upgrade to 100% if it stays as perfect as it has been.
Update on 10/6/2004: Everything has been working perfectly for months! In addition to that, VoicePulse has released a ton of features in that time. Hands down the best service in terms of features and value.
Update on 8/2/2007: I honestly didn't think I'd still be using the same provider after seeing how many have come and gone since I signed up with VoicePulse! However, I am now convinced that I made the right choice by going with the slow & steady provider that has proven to be rock solid for me and everyone I've recommended it to. Their customer service department has maintained their level of excellence this whole time. This is the only provider I feel confident in referring friends and family to every time.

I am new to voip. Have been considering it for some time and I have been exploring various voip's for a few months. The reviews on this forum and the voicepulse site, including the PC mag acknowledgement tipped the scales. I had been considering voicewing since I have verizon FIOS. The online negative reviews quickly turned me away. I signed up two weeks ago on a Friday and received the adapter on the following Tuesday. I hooked it up and everything worked. My wife and I have been extremely impressed with the voice and sound clarity. We have had friends calling on the temporary line and for the most part all has gone well. Friends on the other end have complained of a high pitch beep at times, sounding like pushing keys while talking. Voicepulse says this is common with VOIP. I am wondering if others have dealt with this. I read one post which mentioned it. I have new Panasonic DECT 6.0 phones, so I don't think that is the problem. The only other problem has been that a friend vacationing at a house in NY tried to call on the temp line and received a message that the call "can't be completed as dialed." This has not happened with others that have called long distance. I have contacted voicepulse support about these issues. They think the last one relates to my friends phone service in NY. He is able to reach me on my line phone. I would appreciate any thoughts about this. Everything else seems to be working fine and I just begun the line number porting process today.

Been with VP for over a year now and have been nothing but happy with it. We've had no outages, any difficulties we have encountered have been resolved immediately, including call-backs from VP after the resolution to see if we were having any more trouble.
The only issues I have had were:
1. The Sipura box we use was used previously and we'd gotten it from the old users, not from VP, and it took them about a day to get it working for us. Otherwise we'd have been able to use their service the day we signed up.
2. Line 2 stopped working one day, it wasn't able to register. VP jumped on the ticket and had it resolved immediately.
3. Their presence in Maine is not large. As a result we could not retain our POTS number. So we had to go through letting everyone know our new phone number. Also as a result, anyone in town who calls us has to effectively call a Bangor number instead of Belfast, so it's not local for them, while the entire state of Maine is local for us.
When they finally get a presence in Belfast, we'll be getting a local Belfast number. Until then we have no complaints.

I am one of the unfortunate SunRocket refugees who had to find a new home. I chose VoicePulse based on their reputation of having great voice quality, reliability, great customer service, and actually making money so no worries for the short term of shutting down. I am on day 2 of service and have to say I am very impressed. I decided to use their device (Linksys PAP2T-NA), which I had to pay a one time rental fee for (less than what it would cost in the stores though). The day I ordered service was the day they shipped out the device to me (UPS Ground was the only option), so already I was off to a good start.
On usage: I am unimpressed with their voicemail system - too few options most folks are accustomed to (i.e time-stamp on messages, listen to announcement recording after you record it..), however I called customer service today and they said they were beta testing a new voicemail service to be rolled out in 4-6 weeks - so WAY TO GO VoicePulse. Also, their website is very basic, and not a lot of ease of use capabilities.
I got their month to month unlimited plan which ONLY covers the US. So that is an immediate negative if you need to call Canada, but I don't so I did not mind it. Also, they don't have very competitive international calling rates either, but again, not high on my priority list. So far, I am very glad I chose VoicePulse.

| Give it time ..and I think you will like VP more and more. As far as voicemail, with digital answering machines costing under $20, calls go to my answering machine and the voicemail is used for unanswered call waiting calls, calls that come in during the Do Not Disturb periods and certain specific callers that I do not wish to talk to. I get a lot of reminders regarding vm messages, incuding the stutter dial tone, the flashing antenna on my cordless Panasonic, and an email.
Once you learn to navigate the website, you will like it for its simplicity. It loads fast without a lot of distracting graphics. Admittedly, it is confusing at first, but easily mastered. You haven't begun to appreciate all the features.
Best of all, you will find out that you can really control your phone; blocking callers you don't want, and blocking all calls when you want to sleep.
Enjoy VoicePulse; I have for the past six months. | |

i've had voip for several years (originally with vonage) and i've been with voicepulse for about 3 years. i switched to voicepulse because vonage didn't offer distinctive ring (for additional phone numbers). i have the 200 long distance plan, which is 300 fewer minutes than vonage offers for the same price. but this isn't an issue for me because i rarely make long distance calls. i recently needed to manually upgrade the firmware on my phone adapter because caller id wasn't showing the correct time and my profile wasn't automatically updating. however, this was a minor issue because technical support was very helpful in resolving it. my only complaint is that voicepulse doesn't offer toll free numbers.

2 years now w/ VP and couldn't be happier. We needed a cheap line at the home so the kids can reach us when the wife and I take the cell phones.
I have 200 LD min for ~$15/mo. $10 more would get me unlimited, but we have that covered through cell.
They have every feature in existence, I think, and they're all included at no charge.
Will order from again! A++++++++++++

What keywords do you use to bring up the multiple discussions of VoicePulse call forwarding charges?

| Re: Every feature NOT free....NOT! That was helpful. It appears you can get charged 3.9/ but you have to work at it.
You have to have the $15/200min plan. The forwarded number has to be outside of your calling area, (which can be huge depending on your area code). You have to have used up all 200 minutes before you get charged. Calls forwarded due to an outage are not charged.
OK, so we're 99.99% free.
What scum Voicepulse is. I don't know how they sleep at night. I say we burn down New Jersey.

Since Ive only just signed up for VoicePulse, this review covers only ordering, installation and initial usage. Ill be checking back with updates after a couple of months.
Everything has been very smooth. The online ordering process is a bit complicated but nothing to get too worried about. 3 days later I received the phone router, connected it to my Airport Extreme Wireless router, and I was all set. Clarity has been excellent so far but again, its too early for an in-depth review. My only recommendation to VoicePulse would be to update their website. Yes, all that counts is service and quality, but still, I felt a bit uneasy signing up after seeing how outdated and local their site looked.

| works perfectly I have had VoicePulse for over a year and it has been perfect. It started up instantly with no hassle. I have the $15 package that gives 200 minutes but coupled with my cell phone long distance is plenty. My bill has never been over $15. Occasionally when someone is on a speaker at their end you might get a slight echo but you might get that with any phone service. I just hope they never go out of business. I have seen nothing ut good reviews on their service. | |

| Re: And ViaTalk said by NYPALOTO :..ViaTalk.. Their offer.. is tempting.. Alex, you've got the best, forget the rest. Once you realize how great the call blocking works, stopping telemarketers from bothering you, and the Do Not Disturb, keeping your friends from bothering you, the few bucks you might save can't be worth the hassle and risk of switching.

Certain female voices seem to cause the service to falsely detect a DTMF tone and thus you hear a loud DTMF tone on your end. The other party doesn't hear the tone, so thats a good thing. I have called tech support and they are aware its a problem but say that it affects everyone and there is nothing they can do. I have had this problem with other VoIP providers, so it's not a deal breaker... especially considering the fantastic feature set that Voicepulse offers.
I would recommend Voicepulse over any and all other VoIP companies hands down. They are fantastic.

I've been using Voicepulse for almost two years. It is ultimately reliable and dependable. I love it.
However, it seems the company has gone to sleep. The services are exactly the same as they were. The web site has not received any additional features. There are no competitive pricing offers. Good can be better. If Voicepulse refuses to compete and introduce new things, people will get bored and look for sweeter deals. ViaTalk is tempting as of now. They almost have the same ratings, and the price is definitely a big temptation. Voicepulse needs to try new things, enhance its services, or it will suffer the fate of the typewriter.
Bottom line - it is still a commendable service and probably the best out there.

I signed up for VoicePulse last week, and thus far everything has been great.
I bought a Linksys PAP2T VoIP adapter from a third party to use with the service. Had a minor issue getting the adapter to synchronize with the new settings. A call to their tech support resolved the issue quickly and effectively. A few days later, I had a minor issue with my phone adapter's time zone was set incorrectly, thus causing my caller-id display to display GMT instead of EST. This time I contacted them Friday by e-mail, and I was surprised to have it resolved by Saturday. They even called me on Monday to make sure everything was working the way it was supposed to. That being said, so far, their support has been surprisingly fantastic. No outsourced Indian tech support here. Also, the call quality has been top notch so far.
If you're looking for a local calling plan with some long distance minutes included per month, their $14.99/mo plan for Local Unlimited +200 LD minutes is not a bad deal at all.
