I see that I have a review for Stanaphone still out there. Well...it's gone (Stanaphone, that is). Too bad...too. An innovator in the VOIP world that has passed. So long old friend.

I signed up with Stanaphone a year ago, and the service has been flawless the whole time. I only use it as a backup, but everytime I've needed it, it worked. The feature set is sparse, E911 is non-existant, but for no monthly fee and 1.6 cents a minute (outbound) it does exactly what a phone service should...allows you to talk on the phone. I have used the fax service as needed, and incoming fax has always been great when I needed it. It's too bad they have closed off signup to residential customers. For a backup phone service it has functioned, and continues to function perfectly.

An alternate way to call me now on an additional phone number. I can even call out on this number if I want to deposit $5 towards a pay as you go system. I call internationally so little that I can't be a good judge of that. Update: its up and down but still seems to be running for those who want to know.

Can't really complain. $5 every so often so I can make outgoing calls. Free incoming calls.
Too bad the StanaFAX option that was free for beta testers does not seem to work anymore. StanaFAX-IN is the BEST incoming FAX to PDF service out!
Had the service for about a year now ... since its beta test days. So I have free inbound FAX-to-PDF also.
Everyone with a laptop should have StanaPhone installed on it.

Using this as a Toll-free dialing option. Much better than Sipphone when connecting (100% as opposed to sipphone which only connect 80% of the time). Additionally, I have no problems with my SIP registrations (unlike sipphone's overloaded SIP proxy which fails to ACK my RE-registers 10% of the time).
Even though they don't require any balance on the account, I'm willing to put in my $5 to at least keep them afloat. It's money well spent.
2006/02/27: Am no longer using them for Toll-free dialing since they now charge for all outgoing connections. Still keep the DID since my account is grandfathered with incoming minutes. The switch from single account to dual accounts (one for incoming and one for outgoing) is a bit confusing at first but works out ok in the end.

Simply put, it works as advertised.
Good call quality, easy setup with Linksys PAP2 due to provided settings, very reliable
Incoming calls are free, and people have no problem reaching me. Voicemail delivery by e-mail is nice since I can get it anywhere, and works without any problems with my GMail account.
Caller ID information is carried all the way to me, so I can tell who's calling. Not always possible with Voip yet.

My exclusive fax number, no dedicated hardware or phone line, I can print out anywhere, certainly from any office, School, Library, Courthouse! I have my Sunrocket calls forwarded to my laptop all the time (software controlled off my laptop). I use Eyebeam (audio only) with Stanaphone works really well, a few more bells and whistles, I haven't had to try the narrow G.729 yet but will need to do so when we are in Mexico.
Oh the fax has failed on occassion, but only during my own test with Word DOC files sent from Word with Micrsoft FAX.

Great supplement to my existing "unlimited" VOIP account. Should my VOIP go down I have another means to get incoming calls and cheap outgoing. An added bonus is that the phone number is an upper-state NY number. My wife's brother and his large family live in Windsor, NY, so the 845 area code number has been getting regular use (local call for them) even without my other VOIP down. Heck, using softphone with a USB headset it even frees up my regular VOIP line.
It is still considered beta, so II expect tech support to be next to non-existent.
Good job. I checked into other alternatives. This one is the best for my use as a VOIP supplement. But will the "free" incoming with voicemail last?

Great service - easy to install, easy to use, awesome and very consistent voice quality. StanaPhone really has the best value for money. Good customer service via email - no automated responces just humans. Account information page is very easy to navigate. Looks like a perfect solution for a small business or home office with its set of features: free incoming fax, free conference server, call forwarding, free calls from on stanaphone to another, free incoming calls, free NY phone numbers, free voicemail via email and no commitment and monthly fees!

My family lives outside of the US and my friend recommended me to open an account with StanaPhone for international calls. I did and I was very surprised how easy it is to open an account and setup the thing… I call Russia a lot using various calling cards with all kinds of surcharges and varied quality of connection. I was really surprised how good the connection with this country is… The clarity is simply outstanding! I called my friends in England and Italy – the same great quality!!! The consistency is amazing and there is no obligation – just one simple pay as you go plan so you don’t commit to anything. I had a few questions related to hardware issues so, I send ‘em an email and got an instant response with the solution. My roommate is currently working abroad so he asks me to send him all kinds of his mail and I do it using StanaFax – that automatically comes with the StanaPhone number. I simply fax his correspondence to his StanaPhone number and he gets it in a PDA format directly to his email! I really like StanaPhone for its simplicity, reliability and outstanding value for money. I do recommend it to anyone who is planning to save on International calls.

I use stanaphone to provide me a free incoming fax line.
In the past 6 months I've been with them they were very reliable and I never had any problems. I don't make many outgoing phonecalls with them though. The ones I do are mainly to Brazil. They have good quality and reliable service. I'm able to call numbers with them that I cannot do so with other providers.
