Easy to order and install. Outbound calls enabled right away. On effective date, inbound calls properly routed to VOIP. Local provider (AT&T UNEP from BellSouth) ported the old number - no problem. Not too hard to enable all phones in residence.
My family likes the features - especially the network-based answering machine and locate-me.

Ordered the service and equipment from AT&T and got the TA it in a couple days. Hooked it up, went to the website and clicked on Activate TA, it worked. That simple. The calls sound good and the features are easy to use and manage. This is my first foray into VoIP so I do not have experience with any other service to compare it to, but I never thought I would be so pleased with an experience from AT&T. For all of thier problems (particularly in the residential market), they seem to have gotten this right.
I do not like having the TA on the edge of my home network, I would rather have it behind the my router. But the real thorn in my side at this point is my land line phone number not being eligible for porting. I don't know who to blame on this one, my POTS carrier, AT&T or the FCC. I called my POTS carrier, Alltel, and they tell me it is not a problem on there end. AT&T only tells me that they cannot currently port the number and that they just recently starting porting numbers from carriers other than the baby bells. I checked with Vonage to see if they could port my number over for new service and they cannot port it either.

Ordered service after reading reviews on BBR. Ordering was simple over the phone. I had my home phone ported from Bellsouth as well and figured this would be a challange. Called ATT a few days after my order to verify and was told the exact port date. Was also imformed I would reveive an email informing me of the dates and arrival of my adapter. I have yet to receive an email but the dates they advised on the phone were exact. I now have all 3 phones in my house running off of the adapter and everything is working fine.

AT&T is one of the 2 providers who decided to serve Omaha (With Packet8)
I have used Vonage, since they will be coming soon to Nebraska (In December 2002) but since they never did, I dropped them.
Packet8 did not work well with DSL, & had no features
CallV has worked perfectlty, no outages to date.
Only one snag was when I ported my number from Qwest I already had a CallVantage account, the rep, confused ordered me a complete new service.
I then received a new TA and mis-activated it because I was unaware of a "New" Account.
I couple of phone calls and it was worked out.
So far I am VERY happy however I would like to put it behind my router so my VPN's will work right.
A+++++

I am the type of person who likes to try everything. Examples:
Voicepulse Jan-Apr 2004: I cancelled them because to me the service just sucked, always down more then it was up. The adapter went bad and it was just a mess.
Vonage May-Aug 2004: I liked vonage but to me they just didnt offer enough features and within two weeks there were 3 outages then I had a big billing problem that they didnt wanna fix so I ditched them, and said lets give AT&T a try.
The AT&T is the best out there, it is clear and loud. I signed up over the phone on Sept 15th, the first 6 months are 19.99 and free activation and the free DLink phone adapter. The DLink arrived on September 21st and I was up and running within 10 minutes. Call quality is great, web site has been updated as of the past couple days and it is nice. But I just cant get over the phonecall quality, getting your phone messages is a bit of a pain seems like alot of steps, but all in all its the best VOIP and it is a keeper.
And now that they have lowered the price to 29.99 its even better. People ask me why VOIP, because the monopoly phone companys kill me for how much the charge for the same service but less features (verizon 54.95). Check it out, you wont be sorry, my favorite feature is the scheduled DND (do not disturb).

Had no problem ordering service online and received kit wo a prob and set up was a snap how ever i had ported over my old qwest telephone # and to this day i am still having porting problems. at first my # when to qwest's voicemail system. and now since i started calling in got that resolved but now i get a disconnect msg so am still unable to receive phone calls can make calls fine. i was suppose to be fully activated and provisioned by sept 7th but it is the 29th and still cannot receive phone calls. so looks like i will be asking for a huge adjustment on my bill once this gets resolved. my contract doesnt actually start until one month from activation so until Oct 7th so we ll see what happens. right now im on the phone with call vantage right now trying to get my provissioning resolved. will keep you all posted as to what happens.

I beta tested the service and found the call quality and features to be very much on par with POTS. I never had a problem missing inbound calls, dropped calls or failure to connect on outbound calls. That part of the service was very reliable. That rounds out the good. On the other hand, installation wasn't the plug and play they make it out to be for me. I use bridged/static DSL service so my equipment had to be reconfigured as well as plugging in the IP/DNS details into the ATT equipment for everything to go online. The adapter also consumed nearly 95% of network bandwidth during a call. My 1500/768 service dropped literally to 80/45k during a call. Try running a home server behind this thing...At the time, there was also no simple solution to place the adapter on the backside of the netowrk. After many calls, the problem was never resolved during the trial and when pricing was announced, decided that I could have less headaches for much less money.

I had vonage, signed up with them in 2-03 styed with them for over a year, then tried Broadvox for 2 months. Got ATT CallVantage as a beta tester and signed up with them when they went live. Call quality is unbeliveable. Compared to Vonage and Broadvox the difference is night and day. No distortion at all. With Both Vonage and Broadvox there were echos, choppyness and many outages as well as some voice mail problems. None with CallVantage and the features are far superior too. Just got a simple reach number which is the same as Vonages's virtual number for 4.99. Eventually I have been told you will be able to place the T/A behind the router, for some this is an issue, for me it hasn't been. If your looking for a VoIP provider, look no further!
