This is a great place to go to put of a website, especially family or small business if your budget concious. I have had a very reliable service from them. Total yearly cost is $22, which includes top level domain name registration. Renewal can be hard, and they don't upgrade automatically. However, they are usually online with instant messaging (the microsoft one), So it's all good. Okay, their new package is 25megs of web space, up from the 5 that I got when I signed 2 years ago. Still not a huge amount. Anyway, I noticed that I had not been upgraded automatically. So I signed in MSN Messenger and UCV Hosting was online, and I requested for the upgrade. Well, 10 minutes later I was upgraded. Cost me $5 bucks, but I did get upgraded. If only hotmail would upgrade so quickly! December/2004 Okay, I got two email from them this month, one for updating my domain for another year ($10) and one for hosting the domain for another year ($12). This went flawless (2 minutes from order to live). So they have seemed to have fixed that area. Again, the uptime has been excellent. I will add that I am on a so called 3 meg profile with my ISP, this means I can download at around 311KB/sec max, so I uploaded a 5 meg file to this host, and proceeded to download it back to my computer. My results were 309 KB/sec. (Canada to India connection) Very good host. Ping times were 45ms from Kitchener, Ontario to New Delhi, India. I have upgraded my opinion of them because they have fixed the problems that they have had in the past. Excellent value for your money. January/2006 I changed my domain name with this host. I decided to continue using them since they are only $22/year, plus I got 1GB of space, which is good. I have noticed they their up time isn't 99.999% like they claim, as there have been a few times in the past year that the (My site) site was down. Still good value for your dollar I guess. This time it also took 4 days before my site became available to the internet...not sure if it was on their side or not, though they do say it can take up to 72 hours before your site would become recognizable on the WWW. Oct 2006: Connection reliability has improved. Rarely..if ever..is down now. Services keep on improving. Again..great value for your money. $22 Update December 26, 2009 I've noticed it was a long time between reviews - oops. I gave up on these guys a while ago after I couldn't access my site. Responded to none of my emails. They did try to contact me to renew, which I promptly ignored, since they couldn't respond to me with my issues. Not telling you to stay way, but their customer service is sub-standard at best. The first few years with them was great, then nothing but issues. This will be my last review of them. member for 20 years, 3874 visits, last login: 10.5 years ago updated 14.2 years ago
UCVHOST.com... I've got two clients on this host, their website is up for the most part, but their email service has been limited at best. There is no phone number support for this company, and they do not answer their emails. I've done some research and found that this provider may well be located overseas and staffed by uneducated people that have no clue what they are doing. This is the only logical answer as unless they just don't care about their customers. As for right now, I've got a director and two Gen Managers that are just freaking out because there is nobody to talk to and start pointing fingers, which is just the sort of thing to make directors and general managers freak out. I'll be hoping someone can contact me over this next day or two from this service provider or we are just going to have to go somewhere else. There has been no response from their support group in over a week and the email's be down roughly half of that time. I get 4.4.1 errors when I email their domain sometimes but I can telnet into their email server. None of this makes any sense and I would appreciate ANYone giving anything they know about this place to help us out. Review of UCVHost: They are affordable, and they used to be great with the support, but recently a server ran out of space on their swap or temp directory which caused a crucial page of my site to be vaporized when I tried to save it after changing one line of HTML, and also caused my forums not to work for a whole weekend. They have been very hard to get ahold of, and when I do get ahold of someone in their support chat, which takes a long time, and several tries, they tell me to please wait, and then they never respond. I got a reply by email about 2 days after I let them know there was an issue, asking me to please wait, and they would resolve it, and asking for the name of the file that was vaporized. I replied, and a week later, they replied letting me know they have a copy of that file in a fairly recent backup. I asked them to restore that file or email it to me, and got no reply for several days, so I tried getting ahold of them on the messenger only to get a run around, and the impression that the person on the other end of the support chat did not have access to any of the tools they need in order to support me. They asked me to wait while they got an answer from somebody else, and then they never came back to the messenger. The next day I tried again with similar results. Now it is 3 weeks later, and I have had no resolution from them except the infuriating information that they do indeed have the file backed up, and they obviously don't care enough, or don't have the manpower to take a couple minutes and send it to me or restore it. Until the last month I would have recommended UCVHost, but with the decline in service, and their non-responsiveness, I have to change my opinion and recommend that you STAY FAR AWAY FROM THEM if you are doing anything mission critical! If you just need some cheap space that's up most of the time, OK. (review was emailed from domain gmail.com) lodged 19 years ago
