I had Digital Phone installed after having mulitiple billing problems with my local phone company (Frontier). The quality is better than the landline. I used to have Vonage last year and calling sometimes was good and sometimes not. Also Digital phone runs seporate from the imternet, so when I call and download vioce and download speed are not at all affected.

So far it has been great. They ported my number and installed in 2 hours. The call quality is great. $15 more than vonage but vonage customer service and call quality was not as good. You get what you pay for. Also vonage calls and internet traffic is all together and with Time Warner your calls traval on their internal network and never touches the internet. Much better and worth the extra money.

So far everything with my Roadrunner and cable service has been reliable. I know that there's better service out there. Have you heard of V-DSL? No, not value DSL dsl that runs as fast as 4.0 mbps without a cable line. I'm talkin' with a telephone line! What I feel is that we need to invest with other corporations throughout the world and thats gonna make everyone happy about their service.. For me its a hassle everyday to have to hear about customer's complaints of their service.. But lets face it! Theres nothing better. So dont say your going to switch because It wont do anything. You'll end up going back to the same company.. It happens all the time. Lots of times I wish I could do better with technical support to my customers and that's how everyone else feels. - hey were limited to what we can say to everyone because of company to company issues.. So its that sometimes we wanna help with some services and we want to provide you with better costs but sometimes that just doesnt work out for the better. We just cant provide it.. So let me put it this way. As much as I want to give you that 30.00 discount. Its just an imaginary thought because the system that use on our computers cant provide it..So when Roadrunner sends their tech out soon for me in like two days.. I understand because i work with them.. when your in the telecommunications field, its alot harder than it seems. I'ts like should I risk my job and make my customer happy, or should I get fired for something that they want me to do.?

Either way, everyone will always be satisfied to a certain extent. MY VOIP? its working great, until a storm happens and my service is gone..So the fix to this, move! Go away to somewhere like Texas where the weathers always dry and theres no disasters.... Customer service for me feels always great because I am customer service. I type over a million words in day to satisfy over 10000 people in a week.. Its tough but I'll always be there to push up your bandwidth and give you smiles.. !!

Got the triple play package with digital cable installed on the same day, installers were nice, only issue I had was they thought I didn't order voicemail, so I called in to time warner and the rep told me it would take 4 weeks to activate, I accepted this but called back to see if maybe I had misheard, the second rep told me that it was already on the line and ready to go. Other than that, I honestly think it sounds better than the SBC line I had, in addition to that I could never get the caller ID while waiting to work with my SBC line, and SBC simply told me it was equipment, well I now know that was a lie because it's working with TW VOIP. Of course the digital phone website needs work and the tech support reps seem to still be learning about the service, but none of that would make me hesitate from strongly recommending the service.

I love my digital phone service. Combined with Road Runner broadband and Time Warner cable, it's a nice combination. I have had digital phone for 4 months now and the connections are always clear. It is every bit as clear as Verizon land-line service. Unlimited calling 24/7 in USA, Canada, & selected USA territories. Uses the same phones I used with traditional wired service. Twice service was down, but that was due to electrical outages in the area (they do make it clear in all their promotional literature). Online billing is great - you can see all your calls listed 24/7 online. The best was I was able to transfer my phone number & it has enhanced 911 service. Installation was free & included modem. It includes unlimited dial-up when travelling (though number of cities that you call dial-up from is limited). Installation was within 7 days, and was free & the intaller arrived on time & was very knowledgeable. The cost is $39.99, a bit lower because I subscribe to other Time Warner products. I love my Time Warner VOIP!

I originally had AT&T Call Advantage VOIP. I changed to Time Warner because I already had TW Cable and RR Internet service, and it will save some money for the next 6 months. The service is the same except for 1 key feature that Time Warner doesn't offer but AT&T does... Internet access that provides call logs, access to voice mail online, address books ect. I really miss this feature.

Ordering and having the system installed was a good experience. When it does work, it's great. However, our home was apparently wired with 5/11 cable when it was built in 1987 (inside the walls) and does not seem to work with the new technology. I have lost count of how many service calls we've had. Tonight, I was on hold for a total of 90 mins. in 3 different phone calls (2 from a a pay phone) trying to reach the Digital Phone Technician. Never succeeded.

We have lost the phone & Internet connection as often as 5 times in one day, and no one seems to be able to give me a definitive cause for it. We also never have the same Technician twice, so it's like going through the same steps repeatedly, with the same bad results: it works for a day and goes out, on, out, on, very mysteriously, for no apparent reason!

The Assistant to the General Mgr. seems to be truly concerned, but it takes about 4 calls to get Service out here, and they don't seem hopeful of getting it to work consistenly. They keep asking me if I have a cell phone. So, why would I need one, if the Digital Phone Service is so great, as far as actually working? They are supposed to have "loaners" (cell phones) but I have yet to receive one.

Tonight, it was out for 3 HOURS. Usually, the phone is dead, but tonight it seemed more like an open line, as if someone had called and not disconnected. I checked both modems (they split the line hoping I could at least use the phone) and only 2 lights were on, flashing like crazy. The previous service call was yesterday; they were also here last Friday.

I did ask the last Technician about just rewiring the house, as if we'd never had cable and disconnecting the old lines. (They can't be removed unless we rip out all the drywall.) Anyway, he didn't seem to have an answer.

It's been about 6 weeks since install, and it's still not working the way its supposed to. I have no idea why we seem to be the only people in So. CA having a major problem with TWC, they just keep complaining about the 5/11 cable.

I was moving to California from Ohio a few weeks back. About two weeks before I arrived, I placed an order with Time Warner for their complete phone, internet, and cable package, and was given installation dates for April 8 for all services (apparently cable is installed separately from phone and ISP, but oh well, I could handle that).

I should mention at the outset that this is an apartment.

Three days before the install, on April 5, I got a strange phone call from Time Warner, asking why they had "both an installation and a cancellation at the same address." I told them that this was probably because the outgoing tenant wants his stuff disconnected, but that I was very definitely going to be in the apartment by the 8th (by the 6th, actually), and that I very definitely wanted an installation. That seemed to make them happy. The cable installation went without a hitch. The problem has been with the phone.

On Friday, the installation technician for the phone and the ISP showed up on time, but for some reason was expecting me to already have a cable modem of theirs. I said I didn't, that I have never, ever, resided in Time Warner territory before this, and that I was supposed to be receiving on of their modems, per the instructions given to me two weeks earlier. The tech called up his supervisor, who promptly told him to abort the installation, thinking I was lying to him. After much wrangling with both this supervisor and another customer service person in their local office (I'm in Palm Desert, California), we collectively realized that when I had placed the order a couple weeks back, the prior tenant's account - including its balance and equipment listings - had been transferred to my name. (This was confirmed to indeed be the problem when i got this guy's bill about a week later.) Time Warner, however, remained unconvinced, for some reason, that I was not the departing tenant trying to pull a fast one. In the end, i had to show the technician my new lease, all the boxes (most of which were still unpacked at the time), etc. The install did end up going successfully that day - the phone was working when the guy left.

However, I am still not being billed for the service. While ordinarily I wouldn't complain about getting something for free, I'm not stupid - Time Warner will eventually realize their error and send me some back-bill for a zillion dollars once they wake up. I called Time Warner about why my phone service isn't being billed yet, and was told that the technician still hasn't closed the work order (which by now is exactly a month old). I sent them the extra $40 anyway, knowing that I owe it (I'm an honest guy). The folks on the other end of the line were extraordinariliy friendly, and I did not have to wait on hold at all the seven times I've called so far. (Seven? I haven't even had the service a month yet.) But they haven't been able to do a dang thing to actually fix the problem yet. As far as I know, they still haven't closed the work order, and I won't ever get billed for this service.

But my phone work, and Good Lord the sound really is crystal clear, especially considering this is pretty much VOIP. 911 works as normal, too, which is another plus. It is VERY expensive, though, and offers precisely none of the features offered by other VOIP carriers (virtual numbers, website voicemail access, etc.) I'm almost 99% sure this isn't worth it, and am thinking seriously about cancelling this experiment.

The problem is, Time Warner is quite literally the only game in town for VOIP here in beautiful Palm Desert (except for some tiny outfit called VoiceEclipse - anyone heard of them?) My only other real alternative is Verizon POTS, unless I want to put up with a non-local number, which I really can't do, because my grandmother would kill me.

    VoiceEclipse and road runner

    Hi,

I have been using VoiceEclipse with road runner for over a year now. I dont know if I would recommend VoiceEclipse over other voip companies, however for me the $20 bucks a month for 2 lines seems to out weigh the lack of a hugh help desk and overhead you get with others.

so I guess based on my 1 plus years I would say there good to try.

"None"
"Unable to call home, no dial tone for minutes, sound clarity poor, poor customer service"
"Switching back to Southwestern Bell"

Switched to Time Warner Communication because I like to try out the latest technology first. I liked it because we were able to keep our phone number unlike Vonage. They came and installed it as promised. Our calls out were ok. I did notice some distortion at times (kind of like a badly sampled MP3). We ran into some problems though. It takes minutes, sometimes, before we get a dial tone so that we can dial out. We found out that we could not receive calls from the elementary school where my kids attend. The school is 3 blocks away and the error message was "We're sorry, this is not a working number." I called TWC and they wanted me to go and do some troubleshooting and notetaking for them. They wanted me to go to three different phones within the school and call home, making sure I noted down the time for each attempted call. Then they wanted me to call them back with the information before they would be able to do anything.

I never received a response back from them after I gave them the information. Then, I was at a grocery store around a mile from home. I forgot my cell so I used a payphone. I plopped two quarters in and dialed......"We're sorry but you must dial a 1 before dialing this number". Ok, I got my quarters back and put them in the phone again, dialed 1 + area code then number....."We're sorry but you do not have to dial a 1 before dialing this number." I am getting ticked off now. Called TWC and explained the situation to them, well, they want the number of the payphone and the time of the calls and the service provider of the payphone. The person could not assist me. I asked for the supervisor who couldn't help me without this information. I sent an e-mail to there 'report a trouble' section and I have yet to receive a return call. This was three weeks ago as of this posting date. I have already got the ticket rolling to switch back to SBC. At least with them I received VERY good customer support. Plus, I do not have to do the troubleshooting for them.

Today Apr 19, 2005 TW installed my digital phone service, just minutes before the installer arrived I got a courtesy reminder call from TW. The installer arrived to my house on time.

My 'refurbished'... USED! motorola 4100 was replaced with a brand new Scientific Atlanta DPX2203 modem/phone terminal combo. The installation was a snap just connect the cable and phone line to the combo box and wait for it to reboot.

    Evaluation of the service:
The dial tone is just like any other phone but much 'cleaner' I don't hear any kind of noises. In my old POTS I used to hear electrical noises (scratch and hiss noise) This doesn't happen with TW digital phone. I called some friends and family and conversations sound much cleaner than in SBC POTS.

The Scientific Atlanta combo box is a two part device. It consists of the cable modem/phone terminal and a battery pack. The modem is deteachable and can be used without the battery pack which I think it is a good idea in case you need to replace the battery pack.

So far I'm very satisfied with the superior sound quality. I'll update this review when I receive my bill and use the 'unlimited' USA/CAN long distance calls.

    UPDATE Apr 20, 2005
SBC doesn't want to let me go... incomming land line calls are still being routed trough SBC and are not reaching my digital phone. Incomming cellular calls to my TWDP arrive ok. Outgoing calls work ok. TW is working on this issue and will cancel ASAP my old SBC account.

I made an international long distance call to relatives in Germany ( hopefully 9¢/minute ) and the sound quality is amazing!

    UPDATE Apr 24, 2005
SBC still has not released my existing phone number. Trying in vain to make my life miserable? The phone number port is scheduled to be completed on the 27th. All the incomming land line calls are being routed trought SBC Cellular and 'other' calls get trought fine.

All the long distance calls I've made have been 9¢ /min I can check all the calls I've made using TW's website.

    UPDATE Apr 25, 2005
Incomming land line calls are now getting trough. TWDP service is now complete.

    UPDATE Apr 29, 2005.
Service is working great. Two days ago I called a friend vacationing in mexico and the sound quality was great, the rate to mexico is also 9¢ /min. So far the service has been working 100% Still waiting for that first TWDP bill.

    Update May 03, 2005.
First bill came in the mail today. No surprises, all calls made are 9¢ /min. TWDP is a keeper.
