I had signed up for Vonage last summer and tried to do a LNP (keep my existing phone number.) A month went by with no number transfer. I spent hours on hold calling once a week for updates for the next several months with no real action being taken by Vonage. They in fact outsource the line transfer to another company who cares less than servicing Vonages clients. I demanded escalation to mangement on many calls and was always promised a call back which I never received. The Line on a temporary number worked OK, but the lack of service was appauling.

After too many lies about the progress on the LNP I finally gave up. Obvisouly Vonage was not going to be able to transfer the line, and although I could have lived without the Number I did not trust them.

Lucky for me Time Warner had JUST introduced Digital Phone in my area. I called the local office and in two weeks time had Digital Phone in my house with the Number transffered from BellSouth. It costs a bit more, but you get what you pay for I guess and Time Warner did what they said they would do, provide my existing number on VOIP.

The line has been great so far. They replaced my existing Modem with a combination Modem/phone box that has a built in battery supply for power outages. My internet connection speeds did not chnage at all when I am not on the phone and I notice only a small decrease when on the phone. The great thing is I hear no loss of quality on the phone even when doing a simultaneous upload and download on my computer of large files. In fact the first conference call I was on peopel said I sounded clearer than before!?!

I'm sold. You get what you pay for. I now have reliable connection, a $30 savings on phone over Bell South Unlimited, my same phone number, and Time Warner service and Support at various locations around town.

Sorry Vonage. You did it to yourself.

Why?

Your post is listed as an unhappy camper under time-warner? yet you state you love time-warner and dislike vongage-Strange! anyway if voicemail is higher and your paying 40.00 that seems rather steep when you can chose Callvantage and get more features and quality for less money. I looked into time-waner's Voip here in charlotte but the price was outrageous and considering that in my area which is right around the corner from their office-the outages to road-runner are ridiculous! so bad that I'm seriously considering switching to a Dsl provider!

Re: Why?

OOPS!

I went backwards on the selection bar. Needed more coffee before writing that review!

Anyhow, I'm suprised by your outages on TWC Charlotte. I've been on them for a over a year and only two outages. I had more on DSL. I work from home a lot so the connection is essential for me getting connected to work via VPN.

I wish all going the Vontage/Call vantage/etc route all the best. My experience with Vonage and all I read about Coll Vantage etc is that they are all hit or miss on customer support. TW is not perfect but they are a heck of a lot more reliable in my experiences, so I'll stick with it until they prove otherwise.

I agree TW digital phone is the highest priced VOIP around, but they are still saving me $30 a month over what I had prior via Bell South. I'm satisfied with support and need a reliable connection while working from home.

Thanks for pointing out my mistake on the review though.

Best of luck to all.

Re: Why?

well i'd hope they offer outstanding customer service since their basic package is double the cost of Vonage, and you have to pay extra for additional calling features.
