I have been considering voice over ip for sometime now and as I was doing research for it through google I came across a google ad on the right side of the browser for "Free Year of VoIP Service" and it said sunrocket.com below it. Further inspection revealed that it a promo for $199 for for the first year, and the second year fee is waived. That comes out to just under $8.30 a month for unlimited long distance calling in the US. I put the order in, we'll see how things go.

March 7, 2006 Well not even a year out and I will be cutting ties with Sunrocket and VOIP for now.
If it were just me I would be staying with Sunrocket. I work and am not a big user of the phone when I am home. I talk so little on the phone that I have not even joined the mobile phone crowd yet( ok, I have a tracfone that I rarely use). My wife is the power phone user. She is at home all day with two kids. She has had tom many times of the dead air and small outages. To many times these things have occurred while she was waiting for Doctors to return calls and such. She needs to have the phone working when she needs it and not have to deal with tracking down the phone for our basic verizon line.
So we go back to Verizon Freedom plan for now. We have never had a problem with our POTS , except the prices. I think this will add about $30 a month.
Guess I should go cash in my fandango tickets now....
I would still recommend Sunrocket though for the right people.
09/18/05 They seemed to have figured out the problems for now.
September 9th SunRockets been really shaky for the last week. They haven't given any decent explanation. I am going to start scoping out the alternatives for now. If this keeps up and they don't have any explanation I'll be VoIPing elsewhere.
June 20 After making the changes below, we have had very good quality. Who knows which one made the change. So we are good for now.
June 14 Ok here is what I have done so far. Turned on QOS in the Versalink. Plugged the PC and the Gizmo into there own ports. So nothing is flowing through the Gizmo from or to the PC. Just today I remembered that the Non-Uniden phones we had were 2.4ghz and I though the SunRocket Unidens(DCT646-2) were 900mhz but, after looking into it I see that they are also 2.4. I switched them anyway.
June 13 Sunrocket is on the rocks. My wife has issues with the line quality and today she could not call out for 15 mins. Since i only make 2 or 3 calls a week I have to give her more of the option to keep it or not. I have a week or so to try to get the calls clear.
Any suggestions. I use verizons Westall Versalink(modem/router) with the 3000/768 speeds. Buying another router is not in the picture
June 6 We get the echos once in a while but overall we are still going good.
From the sounds of the forums we now have Caller ID w/name!!!
June 2 WiFE TEST, PASSED! Since she is the main phone user she had a big part in the process. She did give the go ahead to cut our Verizon plan down to the Budget plan. It's $13/month. I moved the base phone out to the living room and it must have cleard things up enough for her. I also turned on the Westall Versalinks QOS. We have gone from MCI+Dial Up @ $80-85 to Verizon Freedom+vDSL @ $90-95 to SunRocket+vDSL+vLineCharge @ $70 Once I get the actuall prices I'll post our savings. I have only had Verizon for a month so the bills are still setteling in. June 1 Sunrocket is on the fence with the wife test. She is not a fan of the "sounds sort of like a cell phone" quality. For me I can deal with it if it saves me $30 a month.
I am testing there tech support. My voice mail is not picking up and they opened a ticket for me. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
may 24,2005 Ordered via the web after finding a code for $19.95 a month. Very easy to use the web site. It should save us @$30 a month.
may 25 - Day 1 Nothing new. i dont know if they will send shipping info or not. Oh, oh the code I used also got me the phones according to the email confirmation.
may 26 - Day 2 I got my tracking info today and the Gizmo should be at my house when I get home! My Gizmo is here! And everything works!!! In two days!!! I plugged everything in (Verizons modem/router to Gizmo to PC) and with out reading any other set up instructions I was able to make and receive calls on the awesome Free Uniden phones. Super clear reception. I did a quick speed test and it did take my speed down while on the phone. I have to keep testing the speed while not connected to see if the Gizmo is slowing me down at all. I have Verizons 3000/768 level and usually get @2500/@600 +-. I have yet to try to tweak the Gizmo or the Westall Versalink for that matter. I just got DSL a week ago. The caller ID does not work yet but, i can set up contacts via the web site so no biggie for me.
We may be cutting back Verizon to their Budget plan ($0 but $13 in taxes) on Monday.
Updates to follow.

I ordered Sunrocket on 3/14 for use with my SBC Yahoo DSL because of the outstanding price/Ts&Cs and the reportedly excellent customer service. Unfortunately, just after I ordered my service, Sunrocket ran out of haardware to send. Despite assurances that they would send my kit via priority delivery service, they shipped it UPS Ground, resulting in even more delays. In net, it took a full 21 days from order to online. Grrrr!
Installation of the Gizmo before the router was uneventful, and outgoing calls worked right away. Incoming calls are not yet functioning, although I was advised as such. While I'm able to do some basic functions like web surfing to most sites, I've lost the ability to do others:
1. No access to Hotmail via Outlook Express
2. Unable to send email in IMAP account via Outlook Express
3. Unable to access Hotmail and Yahoo Mail via web browser
4. Yahoo toolbar won't load with Firefox, although it works fine with IE
5. Unable to post to DSL Reports using both Firefox and IE (Error 400 and 500, respectively, at home... I'm posting this from work).
After a thirty minute wait for tech support via phone, the tech was unable to give any useful advice during my thirty minute call. He did submit a rouble ticket, and I received a call the next day from a second level person advising me to move the router before the Gizmo and give up the QoS features that the Gizmo provides (no happy about this). When asked about the possibility of choppy voice, he replied that they'll work on that issue once I move the router and verify that I have voice problems.
Net: So far Sunrocket's promise of outstanding service has come up empty, from hardware out of stock to missed commitments on priority shipping to inability to troubleshoot my hardware problems. Hopefully they're just experiencing growing pains and will work through these problems. I think they're trying hard to provide good service, but haven't worked out all the kinks yet. I'll update this review as I make progress in fixing my problems.
4/14 edit: SR tech support told me to put the gizmo after the router, which I did. Vocie quality is still pretty good, even though my DLink doesn't have QoS. Still, it's disappointing that the gizmo wouldn't work as designed, but based on the complaints of reduced data rate through the gizmo in the VoIP forum, I guess I'll leave it that way and not complain. Gotta find a good deal on a Linksys now....
4/16 edit: With the help of PJIV here on DSL Reports and DLink tech support, I now have the Gizmo working properly before my DLink router. The problem turned out to be the MTU size. By default, it was set to 1500. After changing it to 1452, everything started working properly. Thanks, PJIV, for the help!
Added comment: Sunrocket tech support gave up too easily in trying to fix my problem, in my opinion.
10/1/07 updated. They're dead. Stick a fork in them. I had canceled my service on the two year anniversary, since I really didn't use the service enough to justify the cost. Thank goodness I did so before they went belly-up.

Well DSLReports asked me to update this entry, so here I am, and there's nothing to write because we all know what happened to SunRocket. I liked it while it lasted and I chose it because I enjoy supporting the 'little guy' and not the cable companies, but I guess it was destined to disappoint. Oh well, RIP SunRocket

I got SR primarily to reduce my long distance charges and as I haven't incurred any toll or long distance charges since I installed SR back in March of 2005, I have to say that SR has met my needs.

Bankrupt, took money only got 8 months service. Was fine till they went bankrupt.
Then Telebend locked MY adaptor and denied doing it. LOL I have no idea how telebend will stay in business screwing with people. Thanks to forums here unlocked my gizmo.
After ~2 weeks to get my "gizmo" I plugged it in. I put it behind my linksys router it worked within 3 minutes. For me I was able to receive and dial right away. Quality was good but I would occasionally hear an echo of myself. Then I set the QOS and so far no echos. I tested sending faxes worked first time, then tested receiving faxes worked first time. So for me faxing is not an issue. I will update this review as I get time under my belt but so far so good. I just wish when you asked a question they would answer it not dodge around it.
So far I have no problems with the service. If all goes well I will transfer by main number within a month or so. The only complaints are for tech support. They are friendly and nice but always answer a question not asked just like politicians. Dodging around question asked, very frustrating. I am not sure I have ever made it to tier 2 support as I have been directed, they seem to be always to busy. Emailing questions is frustrating as they do not answer the question asked. Each email takes at least a day or so for a response

Overall, noone compared with SunRocket the way virtual numbers were handled. There were some occasional issues with call quality from time to time but the cost and the features far outweighed the occasional issue.
