Had some speed problems which are fixed now. The packages are more as follows: Pay for "up to 5Mbps," get 2.5Mbps Pay for "up to 2.5Mbps," get 1.3Mbps Why don't you just be upfront about the speeds? That whole burst stuff is crap, giving 5Mbps for 5 seconds max does not make that the speed of the connection. On the plus side, ping is good and low ping first person shooters are great. »www.speedtest.net/result ··· 8057.png member for 19.5 years, 960 visits, last login: 122 days ago updated 14 years ago
The user on this site I have to commend on getting my service where it should be has been "Skybeam". He was very helpful and got my equipment changed and my speeds went from about 1Mbps down-.5 Mbps up to 7.71 Mbps-2.43Mbps. Needless to say I know Unite has the capabilities to be a good internet provider if you can get someone in their tech department to listen. I found that person and now am very satisfied with my speeds. I waited to post this for a couple of weeks until I saw that the speeds were going to be consistent and they have been. I will be following up on this topic if anything changes. I would recommend them now to anyone looking for an internet provider. Surprisingly reliable wireless broadband. This is a professional outfit with excellent customer service. They use Motorola Canopy hardware, using 900MHz and 2.4GHz bands (they may have rolled out 5GHz equipment, but I don't know). My transceiver uses the 2.4GHz band, and I did have some interference problems early on that turned out to be caused by a neighbor's wireless RCA wireless A/V transmitter. But before I figured out the source of the interference, the tech support guys worked tirelessly and patiently with me to try to get the problem solved. They understood the equipment and actually tried to troubleshoot the problem rather than simply throwing parts at it haphazardly. It was dumb luck that I discovered that my neighbor's problem with his A/V transmitter correlated with my connection problems, I can't blame the technical support staff since it was such an intermittent problem (the A/V transmitter was only turned on when my neighbor wanted to watch TV in his bedroom, and there was no predicting when it would go haywire). Also, the installation was very well done. The installer ran the ethernet cable through the attic and down an interior wall and used a backing bracket to fasten the wall plate (unlike the Dish installer who cut the hole too big, so only half the screw threads actually cut into the drywall, so the plate popped off the first time I unplugged the coaxial cable). I got the 1Mbps down / 256Kbps package for something like $40/month. The published guaranteed sustained throughput is 256Kbps down / 256Kbps up, but I've never seen download speeds drop below 800Kbps, and every speed test I've done has had results ranging from 900Kbps to 1.2MBps. Latency is a bit too high for playing shoot 'em up games over the Internet, but that's what I get for getting the cheapest package. Very happy with the service, which is a good thing since my only other option is dial-up (well, there is another wireless broadband provider, but I only know of them from people who dropped them to switch to Unitewireless). member for 16.7 years, driveby review (so far) lodged 16.7 years ago |
