I've had issues where Bell has horked something and in the end, TekSavvy fixes it. In six or so odd years, Bell has messed up my line two or three times. So it's a rare event but nonetheless, annoying.
btw, my costs may appear high but it's because I have moved all my services over to TSI: DSL with static IP, local and long distance phone, my first child and the pick of the next chicken litter.

I doubt I will change ISP unless I can't get DSL. I am very happy with this company. I never been satisfied with a company before. You can't go wrong with this company, they work hard to provide the best service possible.

I used to live in Trenton, Ontario. I had previous experience there with Bell high speed ultra in 2006, and Cogeco Pro high speed in 2008.
We moved to a new subdivision in Frankford, Ontario.
The speed of cable was great, however I did sometimes go over their 100 gig bandwidth cap. Cable internet is not available here (however digital cable TV is), so our only option was DSL.
Having had previous experience with Bell, their throttling and bandwidth caps, I went with Teksavvy based on the advice of the forums here. I now have a Teksavvy phone and internet service since Jan 2009.
I am pleased with their service, although I at first only got 1.5 megs DL and about 250 UL. I put up with it for months, thinking it is really just the area I live in. Youtube was a pain to use, really limiting my browsing experience.
After doing some line tests, and comparison with neighbors, I called Teksavvy, and their techs were great and very helpful. They helped out with a work order, and stated they can probably do better than what I have now.
After two work orders with Bell (the first one, my connection was worse), I got my speed up to 4.1 Megs DL and as of today 400 K UL. I am happy with that, however I still get a high latency of 150 ms. I am disappointed with that, however it doesn't have too big an effect on my current surfing.
During the work orders, Teksavvy called me and left messages to ask how things went. They were very helpful and proactive with the problem.
I have MLPP enabled now, with one connection. MLPP is great, however I wish there were gigabit routers with wireless N that could be flashed to this option cheaply.
There is supposed to be federal infrastructure money coming to the area for high speed internet, and hopefully the service can be upgraded in speed in my area. I could always use more speed, and my fiancee works online for her company from home.
I may go with another dry loop connection with MLPP, but I have been told that I will get the lowest of the two. It could be quite a pain to get a similar second dry loop line.
Overall, I would go with Teksavvy if DSL is the only option for you... it is a shame that Bell controls so much of their business however, and it really drags Teksavvy down.
If Cable internet comes to this area, it would be a toss up, and since I am using them for my cable TV now. As I stated before, only digital cable is available here. I probably wouldn't change back to cable unless the speed was really bumped up, and the bandwidth as well. The Cogeco Pro package costs almost as much as 2 MLPP lines, and you would still be stuck with their bandwidth caps, peaks and spikes in service.

I am certainly a minority in that I've been quite disappointed with the service offered by Teksavvy. I ordered dry loop DSL (not having a home phone) and had quite a bit of trouble getting it working. Tech support for the matter has been marginal at best.
It took a fair bit of hassle to actually get the internet working. At one point it was suggested that my modem was defective. In order to verify this and to be able to get a refund, apparently I was responsible for finding another modem (from a neighbor or friend) and trying it out. This is a horrible system, and a very poor example of standing behind what one sells (they did, after all, sell me the modem).
Anyhow, the service did eventually start working without my doing anything special. Might have been something Bell did. The whole procedure has been quite an enormous hassle, and I was particularly distressed by their attempt at a solution for my possibly defective modem. Were I doing it again, I would go for a different provider. That said, this service is good in principle, particularly for people who have a specific reason to avoid the bigger ISPs and don't mind a bit of hassle.

I had the premium DSL service (29.95). The first eight months my service was mostly working as advertised. Later I kept getting disconnected and having no service. I would call and it was always the same do a "modem reset" until they finally decided to check their end to find there was some work being done in my area that no one notified.
After that my modem started disconnecting constantly. Called every other day for a week or so because they would help me reconfigure my modem, do more "modem resets" and still I would have a flaky connection.
Some agents would quickly jump to point that maybe it was my modem without even running a test or knowing fully about the situation.
I wish they charged more but provided better service and not have them threaten with sending a Bell technician to charge me for a line inspection.

After 9 or 10 years or so with Bell... yeah, I know... I finally made the switch to Teksavvy.
I ordered the 5M/200g, $30 a month service from TekSavvy online after having cancelled with Bell... a different ordeal altogether. I placed my order with TekSavvy roughly 2 weeks before my cancellation date with Bell, and was soon after given all the information, through e-mail, that I needed to get myself up and running, and was doing just that two days prior to my cancellation date with Bell, with no hiccups. I did end up buying my own SD516 modem from another source though, as it was cheaper to buy elsewhere, even after shipping, than it was to buy from TekSavvy. I'm not sure why TekSavvy does this, as I would have gladly bought from them if it had been cheaper or similarly priced. No big deal though. I followed TekSavvy's "tech-support" page on the website to configure the modem to work with the TekSavvy service, and all was good within a few moments.
My Bell bills were, needless to say, getting higher and never the same, and the hassles and lies to correct the problems were always the same. Needless to say, I am VERY happy to have made the switch, and kick myself for not doing it sooner.
I've only had the service for a a few weeks now, but all is running smoothly so far!
Make the switch from Bell... you'll thank yourself later.

| One reason for the difference in price
might be the support issues. I had trouble (twice) with a speedtouch unit I bought from them, and their tech support people have been stellar with it. I bet you'll get less friendly, seamless return support from them if you didn't buy the unit from them: "Talk to your vendor" will be necessary, because they can't replace what they didn't sell the first time. | |

It is refreshing after dealing with others isp providers to find one that is customer driven with such good service and great prices. The staff at Teksavvy are all knowledgable and helpful, and friendly. I needed static ip's and there is an outstanding deal on those.
If your tired of egotistical self centered conglomerates there is a solution.
Teksavvy is better than the largest providers and more receptive to customers.

A few days ago, I officially made the switch from Bell Sympatico to Teksavvy. So far, the difference between the two is like night and day -- so much so that I created an account on DSLreports.com with the sole purpose of posting this positive review.
I was able to order my service entirely online, without dealing with a single human being (which, to me, is a good thing). The online order mechanism is simple and very up-front and honest about the charges. I first noticed my Teksavvy service was active on a Sunday -- one day before the promised connection date. (The 8 days from order to success includes 5 business days for Bell to fill Teksavvy's order for my residence.)
Because I already have my own equipment (modem, filters, etc) I had the option of ordering service-only. In particular, there were NO UPFRONT CHARGES, such as "account activation fees", "installation fees", and the like. Moreover, there are no ongoing hidden fees. My very first bill contained exactly one charge -- my monthly rate. I still can't believe it.
Another nice feature is the paperless service. Absolutely everything is done online, and bills/invoices are sent in as PDF documents via e-mail. Payments are by credit card by default, but other payment options are available. I can only imagine the amount of money and trees that are saved by making the simple switch from paper to electrons. Why other companies don't adopt this practice is beyond me.
That monthly rate is only $30/month for 5M service. (At least, that's the advertised service. I haven't verified my download upload rates. Moreover, I don't much care about the exact rates, so long as internet speed appears good during casual use.)
Compare to Bell Sympatico, which was charging me in excess of $50/month. (Naturally, Bell offered to match Teksavvy's price when I notified them of my cancellation. But I don't patronize companies that only give me a good price when I yell at them or threaten to leave. Moreover, Bell is widely known to be incompetent and untrustworthy, and this reputation has matched my 3-years experience with that firm.)
I've only been with Teksavvy for a few days, so I cannot properly speak to reliability. But so far, the reliability is 100%. Similarly, since I was able to set up the account without talking to a human and since the install went completely smoothly, I have never spoken to a human who works for Teksavvy. Thus, I cannot yet speak to the quality of tech support. But I have read good things about Teksavvy's tech support on this website.
I selected Teksavvy based upon what I read here at DSL reports. In my experience, all ISPs are evil. So far, Teksavvy seems to be the lone exception to that rule.

Update September 4/2009 ------------------------------------- No problems!
Update June 28/2009 ------------------------------- TekSavvy has added more capacity in recent months as well as dedicated hardware for MLPPP. All is well!
Update March 17/2009 -------------------------------- No issues, still receiving great service from TekSavvy.
Update December 14/2008 --------------------------------------- Well, the CRTC decision came and went, and they sold out to Bell. They are supposed to rule on the subject of Net Neutrality as a whole for all ISP's in July. I'm not holding my breath, as we know big ISP's & content providers have deep pockets.
As for my TekSavvy service, everything's been great. They've have added more capacity & redundancy in the last couple months to handle the growing demand.
Update September 21/2008 ---------------------------------------- No problems to speak of, all is well. The CRTC decision will be handed down October 31, I await anxiously and hope they will strike down Bell's traffic shaping. Until then, I'm still using MLPPP.
Update July 15/2008 ------------------------------ No issues, everything working fine. Still using MLPPP to evade traffic shaping, as CAIP continues to battle Bell at the CRTC. I referred my cousin two months ago, one quick email to accounting and I got my referral credit applied!
Update May 27/2008 ------------------------------ Well, some good news... As of a few weeks ago there has been a nice workaround for Bell's traffic shaping. MLPPP (MultiLink PPP) is working great with the help of some Linksys WRT54G router firmware modified by two determined forum members. Other methods of using MLPPP also exist, so read the forums, there are ways around the throttling!
Update April 16/2008 ------------------------------ On Apr.9 my area became affected with the throttling that Bell has imposed on its entire wholesale ISP customer base. While this is obviously out of TekSavvy's control, I feel its worth mentioning here. TekSavvy & other ISP's that are a part of CAIP (Canadian Association of Internet Providers) are currently fighting this issue by filing a formal complaint with the CRTC. I fully support TekSavvy in their fight, and props to them for sticking by their customers!
Update March 13/2008 --------------------------------- No problems, enjoying great service so far.
Update Jan 11/2008 ---------------------------- It's been a month after the official switchover, and it's been smooth sailing!
Dec 10/2007 ------------------ Woo, finally fully switched to Teksavvy! I've been using an unlimited login since about April '07, with very few issues.
I contacted TekSavvy mid November to schedule a switch, and provided them with a cancellation # from Sympatico. Sympatico cancellation was on Dec.9, and it was processed successfully and it looks like I've transitioned smoothly with no downtime.
I will update periodically as I have with my other ISP reviews.
