So far so good with fios. My connection is faster than advertised and so far have had no service problems. Although we will see what the future brings in terms of the Frontier changeover.

When moving into the area I looked around for who could give me the fastest line available. Verizon's FIOS was the best deal possible. Thank god I'm lucky enough that I don't live in AT&T teritory.

I had hesitated on Fios and wanted to give Comcast a chance at fixing my >1Mb download speeds. After 4 attempts/fails at getting my issue resolved, I was able to get Fios. I opted for the 15M/2M package and for one year. My review is mostly outstanding but with some bias. First, there is issue with installation times. Verizon could have informed me (via their robot Darth Vader call) that I would be #2 of 2 installs that day. Then I could have ran errands and not sat at home waiting 6 hours for techs to show. A polite 'hi, our techs will be there more after 3pm than sooner". I did have to call Verizon Fios Customer Service to find this out. But they did call back. And hour after callback, techs showed up, with apologies. I understand that some installs may not go easily. That is where I am biased; I prepared for the connection. I have a home Cat5e LAN (with 10/100/1000 switch). I installed AC and board for Verizon's hardware. I even have APC UPS for their setup. All they had to do was mount the ONT outside, drill a hole, insert the 2 wires, connect, power up the hardware, test and activate. Less than 90 minutes. My test laptop (sacrificial) showed its age with the speed. But my OS X G5 and other PC are flying. I also moved my Vonage on the line (after D-Link 624 Router...Custom Firmware btw). Can't wait to call Comcast tomorrow and cancel.

REVISION: I've now had FiOS for two years now. The up time and speed are now 20M/5M. I had 15M/15M upgrade but dropped down because of employer change/needs. I'm paying $42/mth with package discount (HDTV/Landline). I must warn anyone getting FiOS that I had experience with LAN installs and wired my home, with panel, power all ready for them. But Verizon Billing screwed me over with rates, additional fees (Where is the discount??) and such that it took two days of calling (on hold and drilling the Robot) to get remedy, and two months to finally see correct billing. The router provided (Actiontech) has poor wifi range in 1800sqft home so I added bridged wifi router to repeat. After a year, the Actiontech router powerplug (AC/DC adaptor) took dump. Had no networking for 2 days...

---Now going on 3 years. No interruptions. Previous issue with Actiontec router resolved with "customer-wide" shipping of new AC/DC wall power supply (Note: the Actiontec router I have is several generations older than what Verizon is providing now.)

My experience with Verizon.

Has been confusing. I signed up 3 years go. had a bad install took Verizon, a month to fix it. A faulty wire, to the actiontec was the problem.

Verizon missed 4 straight appointments. Than I finally get someone to show up, the man has no wire!
Says "nothings wrong"! I bring the idiot inside.
Showed him the, Internet bar on my pc disconnecting, and reconnecting. He says thats strange! Also the tv guide was horrible. lagged like crazy.
Well I explained that a Tier 2 tech said the wire was bad from the router to the ONT. I asked him to replace the wire, he said nothing was wrong with it. I asked again. He told me "he had no wire" So he lied to me!

Than he says I have to call verizon again. I said to him, you call. tell them what you told me. "you have no wire lied to me replaced the ONT, that had nothing wrong with it" cost verizon an ONT, All because you forgot the wire at your shop.
Anyways, he had an install to do, said his buddy might have some wire on his truck. HE BE BACK. He never showed back up.

So I waited inside for days for nothing, now 5. I called Verizon explained what happed. They apologised.
Next day another no show for a tech, another call to Verizon. another apology.
The next day a tech arrived I caused him out a little bit . Next he installed a new wire problem fixed! no more disconnect, reconnect BS. He lives im happy, im home got fios im of all day! go to whatch TV!!!!!! no cable guide. Now im pissed! So I called Verizon again!!!! Another appointment to reinstall a coaxial cable ;(.

Than I got my first bill, wasn't told about taxes, or STB charges.
Was told the install was FREE, but got charged $29.99 with tax, $31.49! Another call to Verizon.
Talked for 3hrs, no messing around. They offered 4 months free service & a $35 discount for 2 years!!!!!! I smiled hung up the phone. disconnected Comcraptastic, for good no channel 5 and static ass picture for 3 years was enough. comsplat did give us HBO, for a year free & internt for 6 months. To this day it was never solved why we didn't get channel 5. we got it but it was all static, all day every day. No football ;(.

Since than. its been 2 years I had t renew my Verizon fios, deal!
Well I got billed full rate, for 3 month before I was notified. automatic bill pay was why i didn't notice.
Anyways, I signed up for the same deal. deal was made my 27th. Well an hour later we lost some channel's noticed because it was the 1's we watch! called Verizon, they did a line test verified my case.
Turned out I got given a lesser package than what I had so I had to upgrade! only $10 more for everything, wasn't told this on this the first time!

Since they cut channel's off for there mistake I got a credit $10 off a year.

I now have their top tier 35/35, phone, extremHD. Im currently paying $129.99 with tax $149.99. With 1 HD STB, 2 Standard STB $174.99. With all the movies, HBO, Stars, Cinamax, Showtime, Epic. $209.87. with a pro bundle rate of $5.00 & a $10.00, f'up credit im paying $192.87 a month .

Verizon, has the worst billing ever, the worst installers ever. you have to teach them and hold there hands. They have high prices, & to get through sometimes, through a phone call can be impossible!

I gave them good scores but thats only because they paid for there f'up's. or else it would be 0 across the board!

Also the internet has been wacked up I posted a few pics, to show.

other than that Verizon fios is getting better. they always add something new! pluse the quality is above anything I had previously. if it wasn't for the quality, I would have left a long time ago.

also Verizon's routing is not so good for me! I ping the speedtest.net washington dc server at 16 to 20msl the server is less than 5 miles away. Im right on the md/dc boarder line right off roadiland ave. I should ping there at 0 no more than 10. 16 isn't bad but I ping to newyork around the same. My connection pings good to major city's but outside a major city! is crap. all in all im pleased with my internet I will always ask for better though. but Verizon is the best i could get at the moment.

Have had fios at this same location for over 3 years now, couldn't be happier. The only downtime that I've experienced was related to a routing problem across much of the east coast. I've never had a problem with the last mile portion and have never needed a tech dispatch. I'm currently at their 25x25 speed, and speeds are very consistent no matter the time of day.

The $95 price listed includes 25x25 internet and phone service.

Installation:

We were told it would take seven days for the install people to come out. Around 6-7 days later a contractor came out and installed our ONT. Oh god, bad experience.

He laid the fiber line on top of the ground rather then burying it (including over some loose rocks and our grass where we mow our lawn). Then he didn't cover the entire Fiber line where the ONT was (the plastic tube doesn't touch the ground).

He also drilled right through our house wall and forgot to seal it from the outside.

The fiber techs later came by and buried the line.

Service:

I have 25/25Mbps and get it all the time. The latency is really wacky (7MS to seattle and 25MS to a city around 5 miles away from it, 125MS up in vancover B.C. which is around 100 miles from me and 60-70MS in Kansas City, MO which is well over 1000 miles from me).

Not sure why it's like that, but verizon ignored my topic in the verizon direct sub-forum here. So I'm guessing they can't discuss it or just don't care.

Other then that no further issues. You get exactly what you are promised.

Support:

Oh. God. Horrible.

I waited over 45 minutes on the phone to get a hold of a live support tech, only to be told they were closed.. really annoying.

We've transfered to business and then back to residential once it became clear they were going to over-charge us. We were promised a certain price and that never happened. I don't have the exacts on me, but it came to around $240 when it was supposed to be $175ish per month.

We were also charged a ETF both times even though were were promised since it was a regrade we would not be charged a ETF.

Both times we switched, our phone was turned off from the switch board for no apparent reason. The first time around they had our TV's scheduled to be disconnected as well for no reason.

Strangely the internet was basically unaffected other then switching from a static IP to dynamic..

I've also learned their business tech support (the live people that actually come to your house) know there stuff. The residential?. Well, the residential rep that came over to install a new FIOS TV box had to install a new splitter. She replaced our existing splitter outside the house and couldn't even be bothered to attach it to the wall. It's currently hanging by the COAX cables.

----

Bottom line:

Excellent service, horrible support tech and sales reps.

Also, this goes to verizon if you are reading this:

What, you got tired of the rural customers so you just dropped us on frontier?. That is so nice of you. I'm not going to complain right now since I honestly don't know how the transition will go, but if they screw us over I swear I will do the following:

1. Never recommend verizon again, to anyone.
2. Never get your wireless plans you have been harping over.

I'm really displeased with this sale, but I can't actually go nuts until frontier screws me over.

I got a flyer on my door one day announcing the availability of FiOS at my location. I put myself on a list years ago to be notified when it becomes available in my area but that list doesn't work I guess. So I went online to order it and it said it wasn't available in my area.

I called, thinking the site is probably not up to date. On the phone they took about 30 seconds then said, "Nope, it's not available at your address!" and were ready to let me go. I kept saying that the flyer I got said that FiOS is available at my residence now and that all my neighbors got it too and it specifically says that it's now available. SO eventually they said they'd send someone out to verify that it's available.

Sure enough, a week later they inform me that, yes, it really is available! Oh, really? So I sign up and a week later their installers show up. They really seem to put their best guys on FiOS. They were super nice and not in a big hurry and got everything set up pretty quickly.

On speed tests I got the full 15mbps down and 5 mbps up, so that was great. Never had any connection problems. They have a special forum here where you can switch to using your own router just by requesting it online, which worked well and was nice.

But then I had to move and even though where I moved to was only half a mile away, they again insisted that FiOS was not available, but this time they wouldn't even send someone out to check. So I said forget it, I'm not going to beg to give you my money anymore and now I'm with DSLExtreme.

Funnily enough, my old address where I HAD FiOS to this day STILL shows as unavailable! Ugh! Geeze, guys, people want your service! Get your database straight! I even found out from the new landlord that if I got FiOS going there, practically the whole apartment complex would switch to it since they've all wanted it for a while. The same for another property they manage, a whole group of people wanting to switch. When I told the phone tech they basically said, "That's nice... We're not going to verify it for you, it says here you can't get it." Even though it also says there that I can't get it at the address I had it at for months! Why is it so hard to give them money every month!

One good point is that since I was moving to a place where they didn't offer service, there was no fee for breaking my contract.

UPDATE: They charged me the ETF and when I called them they refused to reverse the charge! This is a $120 fee that they promised me would be waived! With that in mind, I have to revise my scores.

Been using FiOS for around 12 months while staying with a girlfriend. Had only a few issues but the issued that were had were actually quite annoying. First issue was when the modem was not able to connect due to the ONT turing off the coax internet port. The tech refused to allow the ethernet port to be utilized. This in addition to the way the modem acts in general just sorta pisses me off to be honest.

The second was an issue where all the TV boxes would get flipped anytime one of them had an issue. This is likely due to them messing with the ONT in order to fix the issue with the one box.

Overall connection seems reliable and don't have very many issues with it. Great speed but pretty expensive from what I hear.

The install was internet and phone first since TV franchise had not been granted.
Everything worked fine after the install.
A few months later TV service was granted and we switched over with no problems during or after the install.
We recently upgraded to 35/35 internet and switched from POTS to Digital Voice and save a bunch of money in the process and the phone service is just as good with more features included at no extra cost.

I've had Verizon FiOS for about 2 years. They have had to replace the ONT 4 times, the router 2 times and change ports in the ONT once z9yesterday), Yes, lots of down time.

I had copper at this address for 28 years, before switching to FiOS. FiOS has been down more in the less than 2 years time period, than my copper out was in all 28 years.

The worst part about all these outages is:

1. To get to talk with a support tech is a long, frustrating process. It can involve hours on the phone.

2. The support techs I have had to talk to know nothing. Really. They are basically schedulers to send a tech to the house.

3/4 of all my outages had to be fixed on Verizon's end, not mine. 5 or 6 times, all that needed to be done was to rebuild the cross-connects, but I couldn't get the support tech to even consider doing that. So I had to wait for a tech to come to my house (the next day) to call in and have them rebuild the cross connects.
There were several other times that the problem was on Verizon's end, but they wouldn't fix for over 24 hours.

Bottom line: Give me back my copper. A little static and DSL is better than being without voice/data for all the times FiOS has been down.

Must admit, after they got all the bugs out in the first year, it's been rock solid.
