I ordered FIOS data and voice a few weeks ago online and only 7 days later it was installed. I already ran my own cat-5 cable from where I wanted the ONT mounted to where I wanted the FIOS router to be installed inside. This saved the installer a lot of time and he was very appreciative. In addition, Verizon usually runs coax RG-6 from the ONT to the router, but I wanted cat-5 since I wanted the flexibility to change-out my router to any other router (can't do this if you have coax since most routers don't accept coax).
Day of the install time-line (Verizon also called the day before to confirm everything):
- 8:15 AM: A crew of 5 workers arrived to run the fiber underground from the alley to the side of my house. This included running the fiber under the alley to my side of the alley and then trenching to the side of my house. They completed at 9:45 AM - 9:50 AM: The technician arrived to activate my service and connect the ONT to the router. At 12:15 PM, he was totally done.
The installer was very friendly and gladly showed me the service activation process on his wireless laptop.
I have the "25/25" speed package and love it ! Tests show I consistently get 25 mbps down and 20 mbps up. My ONT is a Motorola 1000 and my router is a Westell 9100EM. I really like the router for its flexibility in programming and it appears to give good firewall protection.
I am very impressed with the ordering process, the installation, and the performance of FIOS. I used to have AT&T's DSL 6m/768K service and consider this a HUGE upgrade !!!

i have had FIOS now for awhile now and i must say i am very happy with it. i have not had any outages and the speed is insane. i now just resigned and they told me i now have 35D/35U but after testing is more like 27D/15U but no matter because its more than fast enough for me. the only thing i wish was different was the router, its not a bad router its just that i would like to use my personal router.

UPDATE [March 2010]
Roommate and I have moved to house down the road in Lewisville; the move was rather painless for the FiOS Internet; however, I've had quite a fiasco with Verizon and trying to keep an active POTS line. At the apartment POTS was over copper and when we moved Verizon provisoned the line over FiOS even though there is a NID and active copper pair at the home.
I was promised by the sales group and 2 different managers in their Dallas offices that I would be able to keep the arrangement I had previously. Seperate issue in itself I know; I'm highly disappointed and frustrated that their sales and field group cannot coordinate easily.
--------
My roommate and I decided when we moved to the Dallas Area to find an apartment in a FiOS area. There are several suburban communities that have the service just north of Dallas proper; it was a little more challenging to find an MDU (Apartment/Condo/Townhouses) that were live with FiOS, but we found one in the right part of town and for a great price.
I contacted sales and ordered the 20/20 Internet Package at the time of our order due to an agreement with the local cable company and our apartment complex FiOS TV was not available. We were set up with a Due Date three days later. The tech arrived on-time, he was very knowledgeable and helpful during his time spent to complete our work. The apartment had some CAT5 to several rooms; the installer used one pair to help place the router in a centralized location for wireless as well as wired computers.
After the first few weeks my roommate began noticing an issue with our traffic and the routes across the Internet they took. He contact tech support and after several lengthy calls the trouble was isolated to a router in a regional office of Verizon's as well as a poorly executed provisioning profile for our FiOS line.
We still have issues every few weeks for a day where web pages will not complete or traffic is held or must be re-routed to reach out network. My roommate notices this more as he works from our apartment back to his servers at work and across the country. We were on the 50/20 MPBs plan for a few months, but we moved back down to 20/20 after our need for bandwidth subsided. Overall the bandwidth is great and overall in our opinions FiOS is better than Time Warner Cable's offerings.

Switched from Cablevision to Dish Network due to poor quality TV. Moved to FiOS as soon as it became available due to SLOOOOOW speeds. I have 25/25 package, Extreme HD & Digital Voice (VOIP) for $90 a month($15discount for having cell service too) plus DVR. Current Motorola QIP-6416 DVR needs much improvement (larger HDD, quicker remote response) to catch up with Dish Network's box, but new Cisco box is set to launch soon. Had hard time with corporate (wrote to CEO) when trying to port my number from Vonage when adding Digital Voice to my TV/Internet package. Customer service rep. placed order incorrectly and created two accounts instead of combining it with existing one. Company then insisted I could only combine if I changed number which I had for 13 years. I kept following up and got two great reps on one phone call to support. First woman got me a better package bundle deal and put me on with a gentleman who took care of combining services in about two hours while constantly calling my cell phone to update me(wrote back to CEO Sidenberg to praise these folks). Like anything else, an employee's dedication to their job makes or breaks a company's reputation. Apparently, Verizon cut back on OT for training and installations while getting overwhelmed with orders. Service has not gone down in 28 months. Again, once running you can't beat it!

Had Verizon DSL for around 10 years, and Charter Cable for as long as I've been in this city. DSL service was normally OK, but got less reliable over time - Charter was just disappointing overall. FIOS was a possibility at our apartment complex for almost two years, but we had to wait for many factors to fall into place (owners, management company, Verizon). In late 2009 everything finally worked out, and the fiber work started. Testing was completed in late January 2010, and we could sign up at the start of Feb. 2010.
I signed up for the Triple Play (Internet + Cable + Phone), with 25/25 Internet, Extreme HD Cable, and Digital Voice Phone. The install went quite smoothly (I had pre-run RG-6 cables in my home theater setup and to my computer location, and had recently upgraded my network cabling to Cat6) - the installers only had to focus on the all-in-one ONT, and I managed the configuration of the router. I also walked them through the CableCard install for my TiVo, which went well.
Internet speed has been fast & reliable - at or slightly over the provisioned download speed. I haven't had an opportunity to try pushing the upload speed on anything that would come close to the full bandwidth. Cable service has been amazing - many more channels, including much more HD offerings, than Charter, and with noticeably improved picture quality. Digital Voice has added a lot of features, but does seem to periodically introduce an echo - only on my voice, and possibly on my end of the call.
My one real negative with the current FIOS offer is the new (start of 2010) early termination fee (ETF) of $360, pro-rated over two years. As an apartment resident, you really have to know that you are going to be settled or that you will be moving to another FIOS-capable location. All-in-all, this is a great package and something I'd do again in a heartbeat.

I have had Verizon DSL for a few months until recently when I moved and was able to get FiOS 25/25
It is incredibly fast, incredibly reliable, and just a joy to be on. I am downloading large files (updates for games, big video podcasts, etc...) in mere minutes rather than hours.
Installer came a little late but called me to tell me that he would be late. When he came, he was in/out within an hour (apartment was pre-wired for FiOS)

Had verizon fios triple play bundle installed 2/17/10 for 84.99 . the tech came out and everything was installed smoothly. The issue i have with verizon is Customer service and sales department have given me the run around. Before i had verizon installed, i had called up and spoke to a rep explaining to them a friend of mine had just gotten the service installed and in his package he had all the movie channels and a faster internet package for not much more than i am going to pay for basic. She told me to call back after verizon installed the service and than she could offer me some promotions available to existing customers and to get my friends info and would need his permission to look at his account. The day after install on 2/18/10 i called and spoke to a rep for about an hour and she was very friendly and we went through the whole thing again. She looked up my friends account and when she was trying to get access to make changes and see about upgrading my plan she told me that she is unable to make changes to my account and would call me back later. I never recieved a follow up call back after an hour on the phone. I have tried to call back 3 times only to get another rep thats not helpful and tells me to wait and she will prolly call back. Also my estimated bill i recieved from them is 5 dollars more than it should be. Supposed to be 96.97 but came 101.97 I have also been trying to find an email through their website but to no luck when i put my zipcode in when it asks for it the page comes up redirecting you to previous page. what a headache. I have had verizon less than a week and already put a bad taste in my mouth.
The picture quality is great and love how fast the menus work, but the internet speed i got with the package is 15/5 and is not very good. I like to watch stream videos and have never had a problem with optimum onlines basic internet package but with verizon its extremely choppy and definately needs an upgrade which will cost more money. My advice to anyone who switches to verizon is make sure you get any additional services or deals worked out before the install and not listen to them when they explain promos to existing customers blah blah blah. Once you join them they are definately not as willing to help you. All in all Verizon fios TV i love, the phone is fine for a cheap price (a phone is a phone right), the internet speed not so good for the cheap plan, and the customer service needs a lot of work ( thats if you can even have the patience to wait on hold 20 minutes).

Hey everyone once again. This is my update to my original FIOS review. Things are still rock solid with VZ FIOS. I have not had even a single outage since my installation back in july of 2009. It is now Feb 20th 2010 and everything works the way it worked on day 1. In fact some things have even gotten better. I recently upgraded to the ultimate HD package with 35/35 internet connection and all the HD channels including the movie channel packages. If your in one of the select areas where FIOS is available I would highly suggest & reccomend you switch to them from whatever other service you are currently using.
Hi everyone I have had FIOS installed since july 1st and so far everything has been just great. I ordered the service on june 28 and got an installation appointment for 3 days later at 10am. The tech arrived at my home at 10am exactly. The tech guy was very cool and knowledgeable about the product as was I. So that made hi job easier that he did'nt have to explain much cause I already knew so much about the service and the technology in general. The installation took just over 4 hours to complete. I live on the first floor of an apartment building to I assume that made everything easier to do since the fiber optic boxes were just outside my living room window. The tech was concerned about placing the ONT box in a inconspicuous area since they are so big. So he hide it behind my sofa and you can barely even tell thats it's there unless you're looking for it. He did a good job making everything was as neat and clean as possible. The word he used was"Perfect". He wanted to make sure everything was perfect. After everything was installed and working properly he gave me his personal number jut encase I had any problems with service. Well I've had the service for 31 days now and have not had a single issue with it and have not had to call Customer service with any issues yet. My service Package is the FIOS Extreme HD package with all Premium movie channels, Multiroom DVR, 35/20 internet package and freedom essentials home telephone. I used to be a former Cablevision customer and FIOS blows cablevision away in almost every way. When I was with CV I had the IO gold package with free HD, DVR and OOL boost. My HD was ok not great, not good just ok. On premium movie channels the picture would pixelate alot or freeze up if there was too much action on the screen. My Boost service never worked at the boost level in fact it barely even work at the normal 15/2 level, especially during the evening hours. Now with FIOS my HD picture is much more crisp and clear, And my internet service is much more reliable no matter what time of day it is.

*** Entire review re-written and updated as of 02/18/2010
When I opened service in the beginning of 2007, I was not given a paper bill, despite being told that I would receive one. It took seven months of fighting with Verizon to get a bill. I finally received a paper bill because I posted a negative review here on BBR. After the review was posted I was contacted by e-mail. After some back and forth, I was told that it is not possible to get a paper bill for customers who do not have phone service. I persisted that this was not acceptable, and demanded to receive a bill. After about two months of this fighting, I was able to get a paper bill.
After getting my first paper bill, I notice that my name is spelled incorrectly. I call them and ask them to correct my name. I am met by a customer service representative that tells me he cannot help me because I am not receiving paper bills because it is not possible. I try to explain to the representative that I have paper bills, and just to check. He refuses. I end up calling back to get another representative. This representative also tells me it isnt possible, but is willing to check my billing status. She confirms that I do have a paper bill and attempts to correct my name. It takes three months of calling and being assured that my name is corrected before it finally is.
Since this time, I have changed my plan four times (Due to new and better pricing tiers being available). Each time I was forced off of paper billing against my will. Each time it has taken hours of talking to customer service, or contacting those who helped me get the paper bill previously. When I speak to customer service I am told that it is simply impossible to get a paper bill. I tell them that they are incorrect, that I have a stack of paper bills from Verizon, and they still continue to tell me that it isnt possible. This is absolutely unacceptable customer service. In 2007-2009 hold times for me averaged around 60 minutes. Now calling more recently (late 2009 and 2010) the hold times have been lower at 10 to 20 minutes. At the very least, the representatives I have talked to have all been nice, if unable to assist me.
So here I am, yet again, with no paper bill and again I am being told that I cannot get a paper bill. Originally I called in to change my plan. I was told that (as before) I would need to enroll in auto-billing for one payment cycle and then I could get back onto paper billing. I call Verizon, and am transferred from representative to representative talking to four in total. I am told that a supervisor will contact me in 30 minutes to an hour. No call was received within one hour.
I called back in and spoke with a supervisor. The supervisor was rude, and insisted that it is not possible. I asked to be freed from my 1-year commitment since I was misinformed. She said that is not possible because they are still providing me with service. After going back and forth a few times she tells me that I can switch back to paper billing on the website (but will still be auto-billed). She transferred me to the website department for assistance. The representative there tells me that this is incorrect, and she can only help if I also have a phone number. She says that I must speak with customer service and transfers me. The representative again in unable to help, and I ask to speak to a supervisor. This supervisor is also unable to help me. Also insists that the termination fee will apply, despite misinformation from their reps at the time the agreement was accepted.
