I switched to Atlantic Nexus after my ISP, Speedfactory - a NextPhase Wireless Company, discontinued service in my market without giving any of us notice.

By the time that I had discovered why I had no service, it was after 5:00PM.

I placed an order with Atlantic Nexus after 5:00PM. On the order form, I asked if I could use my old equipment. Within an hour of placing the order, Chris had called me to explain a few options to me. At roughly the same time, I received an e-mail from Tim answering a question that I had asked via e-mail at the time that I placed the order.

Atlantic Nexus had me back on-line by 11:00 AM the following day. This was less than 24 hours!

For those of you considering the move, here is what it cost:

    Type of Service: 3.5mb $39.99
    Static IP: 1 $5.00
    Modem Kit Shipping: $9.99
    Expedite: $4.99
    Subtotal: $59.97
    Tax: $0.00
    Total: $59.97

So far, I am extremely happy with Atlantic Nexus and highly recommend them.

Was switching from Comcast because they started blocking my email server. Decided to switch, and choose DSL from Atlantic Nexus. Service was installed in 3 days, exactly as they said it would. I got the 3 MB down, 321k up service. Was a little worried that I would miss the Comcast Speedburst, but haven't missed it at all. Service seems as fast as I ever had with Comcast. Even better, when I called to order service, the person I was connected to could answer every question I had. If you have Comcast, you should switch now. It's just better!

I was a long-time Speedfactory client that was there in April of 2008 when the company seemed to disappear. Since I had not heard anything from Speedfactory, I assumed they were dead in the water. I called a friend and asked them to pick an ISP from BroadbandReports.com. He told me Atlantic Nexus (Atnex) was available in my area and passed on the number.

After a phone call, the saleswoman took my CC info and had me up and running in 2 days. I already had a modem, so there was no cost there. Sadly, the saleswoman never mentioned the contract term of 6 months.

Fast forward 3 months and I decided to switch to Comcast. After calling Atnex to cancel, there was no mention of my contract terms. A few days later, I was slapped with a bill for $150.

    Obviously, I was not happy.

After a few phone calls, I was informed that the charge was due to the $100 setup fee that Atnex had with Bellsouth (to lease their line) and a $50 equipment charge (even though I had my own equipment). I was also told that the terms of agreement were on their website (something I did not read since I did not have internet access at the time). Atnex agreed to knock the charge down to $75, but I am still not pleased.

As a user that had been with Speedfactory for 6+ years, I really didn't think about contract terms when I signed up. Since there was no mention of them, why would I think one would exist? I was told by Atnex that "You should have known that," and "There's nothing more we can do." I am forced to have to go through my credit card company to dispute the charge, which I am sure will not yield positive results.

It's not the amount of the charge, it's the principle behind it.

So, in my ratings, I still give them high marks for their actual service. I do not think I ever even rebooted the modem in 3 months and their speed was as advertised. I rated them low for pre-sales and valuse for money, since the cancellation fee ended up making my DSL cost $67 per month.

Service-wise, they provide a great bargain. However, be aware of their contracts.

    All DSL carriers have contracts

So you never accessed their website and never read that they had a contract? Speedfactory had a 1 year contract, most all DSL providers have contracts and you are complaining about a contract that is 1/2 as long as what many are? Its kind of like breaking a law you didn't know about and then complaining when you get caught. If the service is great and as promised you got what you paid for and they deserve a great review.

Re: All DSL carriers have contracts

    Thanks for the response.

Since I did not have internet access at the time, the answer is no, I did not. I was with Speedfactory for 6+ years. To be honest, I do not even remember if they had a contract or not. I will take your word for it and agree that they did.

However, this does not negate the fact that Atlantic Nexus never mentioned it during my call to place an order. Also, they never asked me to review their website, nor send me the contract details in writing. To then go and charge a customer without their official consent is rather back-handed. It's great that you know all DSL providers have contracts. I only considered that in after-thought, but somehow you seem to think that I should have known that also. I am sure Atlantic Nexus would give you a job in their billing department with that logic

I gave their DSL service a great review as I never had a problem with up-time or speed. I will stick by the rest of the review though as is.

The customer service at ATNEX is phenomenal! The representatives at ATNEX always answer any questions that I have concerning my connection. They have also been wonderful with helping this technologically-challenged woman with my computer. They never made me feel "stupid" when I ask "stupid" questions. I get frequent calls from BellSouth and Charter Communications trying to sell their services...I always tell them that I wouldn't change if their services were free.

I came to AtNex as a result of the Speedfactory debacle (»speed factory seems to be no more.... ). I'd been out of service from Friday morning until Sunday afternoon, and couldn't take it any more. So I went with a name mentioned a lot in that thread as a quality DSL provider. I called AtNex at 4:30 pm Sunday (yesterday), and was up in ONE HOUR. (They actually said "It'll be Wednesday at the latest, but we're working as hard as we can, and hope to do it Monday".) And that's when they (and ATT) must've been swamped with calls from SpeedFactory's crash and burn.

Note that we have IFITL (fiber) and thus no DSL modem, which may(?) have sped our re-provisioning.

I've only been using them one day, but the connection has been perfectly fine. If I have any complaints it's that I made a point of requesting that AtNex call us when we got our connection. That call never came. If my wife had not unwittingly tried to surf an hour after the fact, we'd still be sitting here waiting for the call.

Edit 4/17/08: Don't know why I had Services at a 3, so I'm upping it. As for many of the 4s that I listed, it's just because I want a long history of being a good provider before giving lot of high marks. However I'll stick with the 4 for Value... I wish 1.5 Mbps didn't cost so much (I'm limited to 1.5 with IFITL, sigh).

    My Other Reviews·Speed Factory
I signed up for service from Atlantic Nexus during Speed Factory's massive 4/2008 outage. I was able to get someone on the phone promptly on a Saturday afternoon, and they said my line would be provisioned on Monday. The rep was also glad to answer my laundry list of questions about everything from latency to what will happen if Atnext can't provide service to my new home when I move in a few months.

My provisioning was done when the rep on the phone said it would be (and two days before my confirmation e-mail said), and I was able to get my network up with my existing equipment. The only hiccup was that the tech mistyped the account name I hoped to use so I couldn't authenticate at first, but a quick and friendly call to support fixed that on the spot.

So far, the service is clean and fast, and it's $10 cheaper for a top-of-the-line package than I was paying Speed Factory. I'm a World of Warcraft player, and I was reluctant to leave Speed Factory because I had always had very little latency on my connection. Now, my latency is still in the green, maybe a fraction slower than with Speed Factory, but barely enough to notice (and that may clear itself up with some tweaks on my end).

Atlantic Nexus was great. I had 3.0 MB down, 384k up and a static IP.

I had a few problems with them due to power outages in my first three months. They were always responsive, which was nice...after I'd left a message for them.

My most recent problem was with BellSouth, who was working on an old router in my area. I lost my connection for about three hours on a Saturday morning, then it was down for 16 hours. I just went out, bought a cable modem, and signed up for Comcast. Problem solved.

Atnex people were great, but at the end of the day, I had to split because of BellSouth. If you're looking for DSL, they are great, though!

Your giving a bad review to the wrong company. It wasnt Atnex that gave you the problems, it was ATT. Bellsouth was bought out last year by them.

Atlantic Nexus has been a rock solid provider since I transferred over from Speed Factory back in February of this year. The connection is solid, download just over 3k and upload around 325. Tech support is great- the guys have helped my wife get through a few email issues with her Macbook and most recently setting her up with some web space. Best of all, they call back when they say they will, something my former ISP never got right.

Atnex handled the transfer of my service to my new home flawlessly. They said it would be live on the day the phone service was activated. I tried yesterday (the day after phone went live) and had DSL. I connected at half the speed, and after a call to support figured it might be a distance issue.

After running several tests, they scheduled AT&T to come out to make sure it wasn't the line. I actually discovered the issue myself after a noisy phone conversation. I had forgotten a filter on an active phone. Once that was on, full speed. I called back support to cancel the AT&T line tech. I've been surfing at full 3k since.

Bottom line is Atnex is what all ISP's should be. I will not use anyone else and will recommend Atnex to whoever needs an excellent internet service provider.

I had been a customer of Bell South for years with a few complaints. Recently, I have had several connection problems. After spending an hour on two seperate occasions, speaking with a customer service rep in India or someplace that could not understand my "accent" I was completely fed up. The connection speed was not as fast as I wanted it to be.

I heard from a fellow employee about Atnex. She said the service was really good

I decided to try it and really enjoyed the experence. I LOVE the home page. After Bell South I can't believe how much better it fills my needs..

Great Service! Glad that I found this company. I have had difficulty with other companies in the past and just decided that I wouldn't have the internet in my home because I didn't want the trouble. Atlantic Nexus is different. Their customer service is quick to resolve any glitches that you might have. I will recommend this company to my friends. Can't wait for any additional services they might provide.
