I started looking for a Webhost May 2005. I looked at many host. and July 7, 2005 I decided on Surpass Hosting and have been very happy with them thus far.

I started out with a standard plan they had of $4.95 a month. That dose not exist any more but they do have many good shared, reseller, VPS, dedicated and collocation plans in place.

November 2005 I upgraded to a plan called OC5 a shared hosting plan you pay for my the year. No monthly plan. It is though a very good deal for what you get. For a price of $59.00 yearly. Have been most happy with this plan. I have my main domain on this and my 2ed on a addons setup available in the package.

In the next month to 3 months I may even upgrade again. Just not sure what I plan to do yet. But it will either be to go up to the reseller package OC10 which can also be used to maintain many of your own domains in one plan not just be a reseller. So a nice option for those who maybe have 2 or more domains they have in active use. Or I may go with VPS just not sure yet. Have to examine my needs.

But I do recommend Surpass Hosting as a webhost to anyone looking for a good webhost their for the customer on many levels.

Edit October 26, 2006

Well back in May I did jump in and go for VPS. Not to bad at all. Dose not have the power I was expecting and there is some goofy mystery resource use now and then server side but I can live with it for what I am using it for. Some static sites and 2 forums now.
Just spending $45 a month for the plan I am on and getting allot of nice toys. WHM, cPanel and all that. 15 GB Space with 500 GB Bandwidth and this is a Managed VPS.
If your not ready for a dedicated box and not a power user and a shared plan just dose not fit your needs I would say go for a Surpass VPS.

Edit December 30, 2007

After this last jump to VPS just had one issue after another it seemed. Service was no near as good as the first year. I would drop a support issue for a problem and often be told no problem found. Shoot if I had no problem I would not have wasted my time. Just can not go on any more. Not happy with the VPS and don't feel like down grading and don't need a dedicated so just dropping web hosting all together. Was a educational ride but time to move to the next page what ever that may be. I just hope others have better luck and service with Surpass than I had. 1st year awesome, 2ed year poor and last 6 months just OK.

Update: December 18, 2007

The fine folks at SurpassHosting.com sent me a holiday greeting card! Nice to hear from them, since I haven't had to contact them in a while (except to pay the bill). I wouldn't base my decision on a host based on this, but it does go to show the value they place on their customers. I'll never use another host.

Original review: April 6, 2006

Last June, I found myself without a webhost. The webhost I had been using vanished, along with my site. After browsing BBR's Webhosting forum, I decided to try SurpassHosting.com. It was an excellent choice, and I sang their praises in the Rants Raves and Praise forum:
»[Praise] SurpassHosting.com: SUPERB SUPPORT!

Since then, I have been slowly moving all of my domains over to SurpassHosting.com

Earlier this week, I moved the final domain. This was the trickiest, or so I thought, because I wanted to transfer the email accounts and mail. I had rebuilt all the other sites I moved myself. This time, I asked SurpassHosting.com to do a site transfer. There were a few glitches along the way, but SurpassHosting.com support handled everything professionally, quickly, and effectively.

I highly recommend SurpassHosting.com to anyone looking for a host. Now that I know how easy it is to do a transfer, my only regret is that I waited so long to switch.

Thumbs up, SurpassHosting.com!

Team approach to support can often be an issue as one person gets it while the other doesn't or undoes what the first person did. Staff can exhibit an "edgy" attitude when pressed. All-in-all not terrible.

I have been with Surpass Hosting going on two years now. I started out with a shared hosting account as as my websites grew in popularity i quickly settled into a Dedicated Server. The support staff is great... and the owners among the most customer oriented people I know.

The community is very active (»www.surmunity.com) which is a huge plus especially if someone is new to the whole "website thing."

I recommend Surpass Hosting for anyone because no matter who you are they'll make sure you get taken care of right away.

Shared hosting:
OC5 Power
5 GB space / 100 GB bandwidth

I've been with Surpass for 8 months with one domain and about a year with the other domain I manage there.

The first domain I set up there went smoothly so I moved another domain there. That process was horrible and messed up on so many levels it's hard to remember them all.

1) It took them days to set up the account (that is STANDARD - just check their forums)
2) They transferred the site and fouled that up. The gallery got completely screwed up and had to be nuked & done over.
3) Helpdesk credentials that THEY supplied didn't work for days
4) Site login credentials didn't work for days
5) Cpanel access worked and then didn't work and it took a while for them to get that working.

I've had ftp problems there with the server timing out on transferring larger files. That took a while for them to fix. This was occurring at the same time that I was having NO difficulty whatsoever transferring the SAME files to a different non-surpass server.

I've had email problems - first with them picking some random port # (198) for an alternate SMTP port (for ISPs that block port 25) instead of using port 587 which has been the INTERNET STANDARD (RFC2476) port for authenticated email submission for mail clients AND has been supported by most major mail hosting providers since 1998. Surpass stubbornly sticks to using port 198 even though it didn't work for many people.

I've had further email troubles with the email accounts on the domain not receiving any email. That *HIGH Priority* ticket was open for hours.

I've been with Surpass for over a year, and I'm so pleased with them. I'm on the Bronze plan, and they recently upgraded it from 7GB to 10GB for the same price. I pay the $170/year pre-paid, and the price is worth it. I've never had a problem with my sites (I run about 12 on their servers), I can access CPanel anytime, and when I do have things I need help with, the Support Ticket System is very good; they respond very quickly, no matter how minor the job.

It's nice to be with a company that I can trust for reliability and stability for my growing business. Keep up the great work!
