Ordering was fast and simple. Setup was quick and easy. The included tools made creating a web site a five minute process. I used the 1and1 administration panel to transfer two domains including registrar transfer and the process was quick and easy.

OCT 2006:

I was looking to get a Domain name and an business email address and look at one Major ISP to look at their prices and see what they offered. Not having any experience with this at all, and being rushed to get this done ASAP. I looked at the services that that major ISP offered and though for what they charge, its not much that you get then i remember 1and1 ads from PC World and though let me check out what they have. All I want was email and to reserve a Domain name and these prices could not be beat. I signed up right away and have been happy so far. You get 1GB of a mailbox to be shared between 5 email address.

the only downside, is the sorry looking webmail interface, looks like college students did it just to get a passing grade.

But it does the job that you need it for.

I have 3 sites hosted at 1and1.com on their Business Hosting plan. All domains are on the same service great package for $7.95 includes items like FrontPage, email, tech support etc.

But over all 1and1 is a great company as long as you can understand their tech support. I had to call to figure out how to get the FrontPage upload to work and they were quick to walk me through everyone to make sure it was up and running.

1and1.com does a great job of what they do!

Stay away from 1and1

Without any previous authorization they activated the autorenew, now they mess up with my acct. and for $5.99 now I have to pay $19.00.

I had been an EV1 customer for the last 5 years and never had any problem with them (I had to switch registering with ev1 because they cancell their registering services).

Please stay away from 1and1...

I signed up for the preview package. I did not have to provide any credit card information. Nowhere did I agree to changing to the paid package. I did the mistake of purchasing domain names and providing my credit card information. The next thing I find out is notice from collection agency about unpaid balance. Since 1and1 had my credit card information from domain name purchase, they conviniently used it to upgrade me to the paid service. The tried to charge my credit card for the hosting service but the card had expired. So they sent my account to collection agency. I am writing complaints to Better Business Bureau and Pennsylvania Attorney General Mr. Tom Corbet.
Please stay away from this company.

I was introduced to 1&1 while they were running an six-month free service special. I participated in that deal and after the six months I was pretty satisfied with the job they were doing. I have only a small personal site and 1&1 is sufficient. Sometimes I feel like the speed to my site could be better, but usually it is not horrible and it is not dedicated hosting so I do not expect incredibly fast speeds, especially when the site is not big enough to warrant them. 1&1 has been a very reliable host for me. I've never noted downtime. Their e-mail support is somewhat slow, but I wouldn't hesistate to guess that their phone support is worse. I've never needed to call them.

UPDATE 8/31/06

They've increased my available storage, transfer limits, and number of databases at no extra charge. I think I missed the e-mail and I was quite pleased when I logged in to my account and found this. The service continues to be good.

front page?

If you use FrontPage do you have any issues when updating your site- Posting using the FrontPage settings not by FTP in FrontPage.

1and1.com is cheap, keep that in mind before you move to them. You get what you pay for.
I moved over to 1and1 from hosting my own server.

I wanted a place for store pictures and more. Wife has a small business and it works great for that. I did a a pro package for a very cheap price 9.99 a month for 10GB of storage and Five domains.

If you run a big business and do not know if you want to move over to 1and1.com
If you are looking for a place to run a website with lots of space, then 1and1 maybe for you.

They have five domains and email for all five domains. I use IMAP for the email. I do not use there exchange server. (too much money) IMAP maybe a little slow, but I do not have to do any of the work.

In a nut shell, You get what you pay for.

My dad and I were bored. So we decided to start a new website. We didn't want something fancy or expensive. I logged in BBR and asked around. 1&1 was the one that stood out both in pricing and what met my needs.

We ordered the package with a free domain and that same day we were adding content to the web site

The Website builder is a great tool as it allows HTML-illiterate people set up a site and add content. Sometimes the Web Site builder can get hard to use, as it locks up or there is some other difficulty.

I've never had no problems with the site actually being DOWN.

In conclusion, if you are questioning whether to start a small home-home office website, this is the definite choice for you.

I guess you could say that, given my level of entrenchment, I am content with 1and1. They host several domains of mine which run several applications, so migration wouldn't exactly be easy should I find a webhost that fulfills what I'm missing.

1and1 is behind the times when it comes to their facilities. Apache 1.3.x, MySQL 4.0.x, and PHP 4 are still the standard fare for all shared hosting accounts. You can request that PHP5 be enabled on yoru account, but you are stuck with the latter two. What really tempers my praise for them is MySQL. As technology progresses and web software takes further advantage of database technology, 1and1 users are left in the dust stuck on a server 3 point releases behind the current supported release. It is true that this won't affect most people who only care to install PHPBB and go, but it will likely affect developers who need a DB that supports stored procedures, triggers, and subqueries.

It wouldn't be much of a review if I only stated my disappointments. I am rather impressed with 1and1's uptime. Aside from a 5-minute database hiccup on or around June 2nd, I haven't had any memorable availability problems whatsoever in more than a year of service.

I suppose I can still recommend 1and1. If you have only basic needs and want a cheap host with lots of storage and bandwidth, they're right up your alley; however, I cannot recommend 1and1 for aspiring web developers and hobbyists like myself.

The price is great for PHP and MySQL support, however the basic packages are oversold and they're trying to host too many sites on one server. Other than that, its pretty good, the web interface is clean, and easy to manage. I would reccomend it for the basic site and business site so long as you don't try to skim by with a cheaper package to save money.

Also, the e-mail side is a little slow and could use some work.

We switched to 1&1 after having problems with our previous host, and the problems vanished.... for a while.

Email was delayed here and there by a few hours, but it wasn't perpetual until about 3 months into things. Last Thursday, their email servers went into a permanent delayed status, at least during the days, six days later, things have only gotten worse. Now we're experiencing dropped emails, inaccessible mailboxes, and the incompetent technical support 1&1 is famed for.

Anyone who works in the tech business has to be used to dealing with foreign tech support. It's generally bad.. but you can usually get something accomplished. Not so with 1&1. Their current "support staff", when they do answer, has obviously been placed there only to handle the slew of calls from people wanting to know why they haven't been able to get to their emails for SIX DAYS. There is no attempt to explain the problem, no attempt to find out a status, much less give one.

I am putting my own mail server up. I figure if it stays up one day a week, I'm doing better than the "best" in the business, right?
