With my equipment upgrade everything was great for 4 years.
Took a long time to get my equipment upgraded. 4 years later though the equipment is out of date again and no upgrades offered.
OK if you can't get cable or DSL. Now that DSL is available I dropped them like a hot potato.

Update 5-26-2017

I've been with Wisper a long time now. In the past year the latency issues, connection dropping and unstable speeds have come back. The support techs would either make an adjustment on their end and things worked properly a day or two or they would tell me their equipment installed on my house was out of date. DSL is now available from Frontier and so far well out performing Wisper.

Update 9-28-2012

While it has been an up and down ride I now have a 10/1 connection, very stable, latency has been good and for 59.99 a month not bad at all. If I had to choose between this and DSL I would definitely take this. No cap to speak of. Probably glad I couldn't get Clearwire. Personnel at Wisper are great and now that I have MORE I would recommend them to anyone.

Update 6-21-2011

Service improved since my last post. My speeds are still slow but right about where they are supposed to be. My monthly bill was reduced to reflect the lower speeds (1000/500) they are able to provide. I would once again recommend Wisper if they are your option.

Update 8-13-2010

After a bad rain storm a couple of weeks ago my connection has been anything but reliable.I have been told that it was due to my being connected to an antenna that did not have good reception to my radio and the jitter was knocking me off. However I had been on this same one since my last review with no problems. They moved me to a different antenna/AP that is oversubscribed. Told me my speeds would be reduced but connection would be OK. Well the speeds are horrible and the connection is anything but stable. At this point I would not recommend anyone in the Dupo area sign up. At this point most should be able to go with Clearwire, however I am just outside of the range. I have yet to get any reply concerning a fix or any other solution from Wisper.

Update 2-18-2009

Been awhile. As this is all I can get, in this day of 5 meg minimums, so it's not bad at all. The nightly slowdowns are a pain but I have not much of a choice. I sure will not move for a fast connection. Still keeps Vonage up. Gaming is a problem sometimes but overall I'd recommend them to someone with no other options as I.

Update 1-12-2007

Well they added new APs at the backend evidently. The latency has improved and packet loss is now gone again. Took them quite a while but it's back to broadband quality.

Update 12-04-2006

I have been having terrible latency issues now since September 2006. I have not added this info to my review because they were so helpful before. They have told me new equipment, a new backbone, etc would be in place to resolve the issue for months now and no improvement. December 1 was their last "it'll be fixed date". It appears they may have grown too much too quickly. The Vonage I have is now very unreliable when running over this network. I think I may have Verizon hook the POTS back up for reliability and then hope a WiMax provider comes along soon.

Update 12-23-2005

The new backhaul was installed! Things are great now. My connection has stabilized, latency has gone down, and all is well. I would recommend Wisper for anyone without traditional broadband access.

Update 12-12-2005

The latency has improved. Still not the best as ping will spike to 180 ms then back to 86 ms. Tests to DSLR. Occasional dropped packets as well. On-line gaming is ok but I feel it could be much better.

Well this is the only real broad band option I have. I negotiated a special package with absolutely no frills, just a pipe. 500/500 connection.

This is a new tower I am on and there is currently a packet loss issue. Another annoyance is being behind a NAT, like satellite, but they are opening some ports so xlink kai will run. I will say the people at Wisper have been nice and knowledgeable so far. If the issues above are repaired I'll be one happy camper.

I recently moved to a rural area east of Waterloo, IL. I figured my chances of getting a decent internet connection were slim to none. However a friend told me about Wisper so I gave them a call. They answered the phone quickly and setup a site survey to verify service availability. When tech arrived (on time) for the survey he informed I could get up to 20 Mbps service. I requested the 10Mbps package. Tech installed a small unit on roof and had service running about 45 minutes later. Speed tests are consistently 9.75/1.9 with latency of 10ms or less. I am letting all my neighbors know about this because it rocks.

They reduced my monthly bill (in half! ) because they can't support the high speed they claim
It takes 45 minutes to send 5 pictures.
No better than dial up. They more people they sign up, the slower it gets. What's that tell you?

High Speed Advertised? Ha! Trouble..then its ok for a while.
Trouble.. then its ok for a while. Trouble...then its ok for a while.
HIGH SPEED? NOT. RELIABLE? NOT. One person has great service..neighbor has nothing. Why? But right now I have no choice. So, it takes me 3 times as long to do work as it does in the TRUE HIGH SPEED areas of the region.

I am absolutely thrilled with the service. I have the 10/2 velocity plan for $54.99/mo. Install was $50 w/2 year contract. Consistent speeds @ 10Mbps Down / 2Mbps up. Pings to dslreports.com around 40ms. No packet loss. Great tech support. I would recommend Wisperisp to anyone within range of their towers.

1/2/07

Couldn't get any form of cable or dsl and this company was buying up all the local wireless companies so I didn't have much of a choice. Tried different cellular cards and verizon got better speeds but didn't work where we placed the computer in our house. We are suppose to have 300kbps down an 150 kbps up and test almost show this speed but internet over all seems dog slow. Latency ranges from 30 all the way to 200 something and at time times out. VPN access works okay but when running TS sessions they time out very often. Running non line of site equipment and they said they will be installing a new tower and I can go to line of site (which will drop my price $5). They said they are upgrading fiber to help internet speed but I have yet to see any improvment. The neighborhood is still working on getting something better in the area and hopefully will have something when my 3 years are up.
