Commercial business package 5mb down 2mb up for 2 years @ $99 a month. 80gb bandwidth with a hefty surcharge when I go over. Monthly payments were closer to $150 and the stress of monetering every day usage. It's a monopoly rate for a product that the fine print states 0.5mb is where can drop down to no matter what the "up to" speeds your paying for might be, it can still drop down to 0.5mb and that's the quality of there product on paper. Install was fine. WiMAX mounted on a fully extended 12 ft pole connected to a tripod base bolted to my roof. COMMERCIAL product they no longer offer was expensive with a low bandwidth cap. The speeds were NOT throttled down ever and I usually got between 3-4mb down while school was in, but once school was out and 4:00-4:30 hit, my speeds would drop to 1.5-2mb down. I used it for my VoIP and 2 RDC computer connections for work. It got the job done, but just barely. Here's where things get interesting..... I kept getting flyers for faster cheaper internet from xplornet and decided to call them on it. More bandwidth, faster speeds (10mb down) for $79.99. I thought I'd call and ask them about it. my biggest concern was that with the commercial product I originally signed up for, I was getting priority service, max speeds always (though I was consistently going over my limit) and I didn't want to loose that. The CSR advised me that there was no such thing as priority service..... I said but I'm paying ALOT for it!!!! He said no such thing, you must be on a discontinued plan, we've improved our product a while back. Being a logical fella, I believed him. So I asked if I switched to the cheaper faster more bandwidth product, would I get the same speeds I've been getting all along? The CSR said you won't notice any difference. So I took the bait. BOY WAS THAT A MISTAKE!!!! I complained sooo much I got nearly got 1/2 a year for free! I lost business and loads of potential clients. I found myself having to commute 100km to Toronto to work instead of being able to work from home since the speeds were too slow. I tried to get the old product back but apparently it never exsisted???? Discontinued and no records about it I guess. I'm sure there were some kind of discrimination stuf they got hit with and couldn't offer it any longer. IT GETS BETTER!!! Entering the LTE phase So the saviour of xplornet gets it marketing push and the advertisement comes my way. LTE now available I was like shut up and take my money!!!!!! I paid $1,350 to get a 40ft tv tower installed at the side of my house and got the LTE asap! It was a rip off. speeds were just as bad when I upgraded from 5 to 10 down and no change in speeds when I upgraded to 25mb down. When I say no change in speeds I mean it was just as bad as my old rig, WiMAX, I shelled out all that money for nothing. And I grilled the CSR's like no one else, I spend hours and hours and hours over the years getting my free months and trying to figure out why speeds where so slow. When LTE came around I was assured that this would take care of all my problems and I believed them. I paid $1350 for the equipment to makes sure that signal strength would not be a problem and did everything above and beyond what was needed. Once I filtered out all the trouble shooting under the son multiple times, it turned out that there was just no explanation for my slow speeds. Word of advise, go with there basic LTE package, more expensive packages won't give you faster speeds during the day. When it finally all came to an end and another internet provider entered my area, I had the absolute joys of calling xplornet to cancel after 4 long years with them. They begged me to stay and I'll be honest here....... let me say that if they charged me a fair price for there product, I wouldn't speak to harshly about them.... if all They can do is guarantee me 0.5mb speeds, then charge me for those speeds. Not *up to* 5 or 10 or 25mb. Charge me for what the quality of the product actually is. My uncle is with xplornet and when I was up there last he was getting under 1mb but still paying top dollar. He couldn't even run Netflix! They begged me to stay, I told them about the product value being no good, paying for a service and not getting the product is not cool and I felt misled in there advertisements.... ****** important note***** the fine print states that it is still exceptable if you are getting 0.5mb down***** that's where they stand with there product fellas!!! 1/2 a meg is there quality control standard. NO JOKE!!! Dial up is 0.25, xplornet is 0.5. Avoiding another rabbit hole.. the installers came by to take back there equipment and tried to talk me into staying. I sort of looked at them like do you have any idea what you just said?!? Briefed them on my 4 years history, they said xplornet is getting better. Well I told them that's what they've been saying to me for over 4 years and unless they change there fine print from 0.5mb down to say... 5mb down guaranteed, they do not stand by there own product. Someone please let me know if/when they amend there speed quality from 0.5mb as a bare minimum..... as long as that stays the same, they will forever be a disappointment to any isp claiming to be high speed.. I'm with another line of sight isp and I've had to call them once. I pay for 10mb Down, I get 9mb-11mb down no matter what time of day it is. I've never been happier. member for 7.3 years, driveby review (so far) lodged 7.3 years ago
I had Deplornet for 1.5 years on the 10Mbps/800K Wireless plan using "WiMAX" technology. I was apparently in between 2 towers, so my signal would constantly bounce between panels. I then got "upgraded" to LTE technology on the same plan (10Mbps/800K) and it was a little more reliable, but the signal was weak. Used for 6 mths and recently it was aimed to a different tower, which turned out to be a bit better signal, but bogged down with traffic from 4pm to 11pm. Was sometimes getting only 1.5Mbps down! When phoning to complain, Xplornet told me I could get out of my LTE 2 yr contract for free because they couldn't provide me the proper signal. Buh-Bye! Went to Storm Internet for same price for (10Mbps/1Mbps) and kicking myself for not doing this 2 yrs ago. member for 7.5 years, driveby review (so far) updated 7.5 years ago
Upgraded to LTE-10/250 package on G4. Much better than previous service, at least I can now watch a YouTube video most of the time. The install was so, so. I per-installed the cable, but the installer did not remove the old cable. Just left it hanging over the roof. Not sure what equipment was installed. I just know I do not have to reboot it as often. When I look at what other people pay for their Internet I feel cheated, but I have no other choice. The only good thing I can say about Xplornet is their great service people who answer the phone 24/7. member for 7.8 years, 2 visits, last login: 7.8 years ago lodged 7.8 years ago
They have LTE 5 (100GB) or LTE 10 (250GB) or LTE 25 (500GB) - meaning up to 5Mbps down or up to 10Mbps down or up to 25Mbps down BUT - they throttle all traffic as part of their traffic management policy - from 8am to 1am to a peak transfer speed of 300 kbps download and 100 kbps upload. During non-peak hours (between 1am and 8am local time) this policy is not active. I went for the LTE 10. The numbers are rather paltry - tonight 28 Dec 2015 my downloads were from 0.95Mbps to 1.95Mbps (though like I stated I signed up for a service that should be WAY closer to 10Mbps). Latency is another issue anywhere from 580ms to 1625ms - which is rather unacceptable. They use rudimentary 'tech' to enact this policy ie. this 0.3Mbps down speed is ALWAYS in effect regardless of the bandwidth capacity they have on their network. Order process was easy, independent installation dealer was very good. They use Breezemax 7000 dual mode wimax/LTE CPE (3.5~ range or 2.3~ range frequency). All Xplornet flyers that come to the mailbox SUCK you in with the UP TO Download numbers - the service is 'good' for 24h then the throttling occurs and you can't complain because its in their terms of service. So if you are nocturnal like a bat or raccoon then life is great as you will get blazing speeds (during my 645am email check etc I got 9.89Mbps downloads). But this overnight performance is of little use to most of us in Niagara/Ontario/Canada. In addition, the internet service suddenly cuts out for 1-2minutes without any reason. This will happens 2-3 times in a 60min period. Its not the hardware in my house as I've encountered this with my home network excluded by directly attaching my laptop to the Xplornet modem. In summary, it is what it is - kind of like Iacoca's K Car - it gets you from A to B, slowly and most of the time - but the normal use within a modern household demands way better service that just isn't there for us 'rural' customers (though I'm 12 minutes from a WalMart - so not that rural). Demands like working from home and needing to connect to my office server, studying online for my highschool kids, online business courses, music streaming, watching some Netflix - all these services tax the mediocre offerings from Xplornet. Too bad our government authorities stifle or shut out competition leave us citizens with a string between 2 cans. I am on the 4G fixed wireless service. I pay $72.00+ per month. for 5Mbps and 100GB cap.Been a customer for 1 year and 3 months. Even though Bell and Rogers both have services a few hundred feet from me Xplornet was /is my only option. If Xplornet were just a streaming service I would give them high marks across the board but as an Internet service provider which I assume to be a provider of all things internet they fail miserably. If I pay for up to 5Mbps I should receive that amount no matter what content I view. Its bad enough that they can deliver far less than the 5Mbps and still look you in the face ,but when they throttle this speed as well on what so ever they choose on such a broad category as non time sensitive well then that 5Mbps advertised is nothing more than a deliberate attempt to mislead customers. They are only able to do this as the government allows this as long as they vaguely state it in there terms of service. So the biggest blame has to go to our government for allowing this in the first place and to Xplornet second for having absolutely no moral responsibility what so ever. If all you want your computer to do is watch Netflix then go for it but anything else you will get very very very very very very very frustrated. all the time.I find it so ironic that they can now offer me 25Mbps and 300 GB when they state that they have to throttle so heavily to make sure everyone can get their fair share. I mean if they cant deliver on 5 Mbps without throttling how the hell can they offer me 25 Mbps . Thank god they dont sell new cars as under the same terms of service you would have to pay the 30 or 40 grand but they could deliver you a worn out beat up old clunker worth 100 bucks . Criminal by any other standards. member for 8 years, 6 visits, last login: 7.9 years ago updated 7.9 years ago
I subscribe to the 5 mbps download and 1 mbps upload option, Xplornet 4G Jupiter satellite. Speeds during the day are fine, usually. I get 3-4 mbps and pay for 5 mbps download. Torrents are throttled down to 20 KB/s or less for the vast majority of the day, until about 2 am or later. Bandwidth cap is lower than I would like, but better than a LTE stick or hub that would only allow 5 GB or less for a reasonable price. HTTPS latency is very bad and makes for sluggish browsing, especially where multiple images or content are involved. Netflix works fine on low quality, but many issues with Youtube and Shomi. The few times I've had to call have been somewhat frustrating but thankfully uncommon. I find more than anything the modem has to be reset fairly often due to connection reset messages on sites, especially sites using HTTPS. Resetting the "MBX connection" in advanced settings seems to do the trick as well. Rain fade is also very common and annoying, but snow in the winter seems to have less of an effect. Evenings and weekends speeds are much, much lower than advertised - you're lucky to get 1mbps. All in all, I think most people on Xplornet have no other choice. I have used cable, DSL and satellite in various locations and I'd prefer DSL or cable any day - who wouldn't - but satellite is fine for what it is. If I were to change anything about Xplornet, I would like to see the network less congested and also less unnecessary torrent throttling in the daytime hours. In their policy, they describe "peak hours" as 7 am to 2 am (!), the vast majority of the day. member for 8.1 years, 50 visits, last login: 7.6 years ago lodged 8.1 years ago
They've upgraded to LTE in the Niagara region but this doesn't change the fact that they're still Xplornet, the worst company myself, friends, and family have ever had the displeasure of interacting with. "My service stopped working." "It's your router. It's your computer. It's the weather. It's you. It's everything but Xplornet and no we won't run any tests to confirm that." "My service stopped working and I've put in multiple calls to have it fixed." "We have no record of that. We have a record that you called, but no record of an issue." "May I speak with a supervisor?" "No, this information came from the supervisor." "May I speak with a supervisor?" "No, I am a supervisor." "I want to cancel my service since you won't fix it." Still continues to bill monthly services... "I CALLED IN TO CANCEL MY SERVICE MONTHS AGO!!" "We have no record of that." There may be a couple employees that actually care to help but the majority are rude, talk down to those calling in, and will blame everything they can blame before you're forced to hang up, call in again, and get an employee that will actually complete the tests that they need to complete to either resolve an issue or tell you there is no resolution. In summary, this is the worst company in Canada and I've no doubt they've violated consumer laws. If you call them, record your calls, otherwise you're going to get scammed. member for 19.4 years, 8611 visits, last login: a few hours ago lodged 8.2 years ago
I've been with Xplornet for a few years now on there 4G satellite and it hasn't been the best experience. When we first got the service it was good hovering at about 5 to 10mbps and I was indeed paying for 10mbps. The whole plan was 10mbps down, 1mbps up and a 40GB monthly cap at 115$. For the past the couple of months the service has been awful. I'm still paying for the same thing as I was when is signed up but now I've been getting 500kbps download for a while and this lasts pretty much all the time. But around 2am to 6am the speeds go up to about 5 to 8mbps which tells me one thing. They crowded up there satellites and now too many people are using it. Overall my experience hasn't been the best I don't recommend this service if you can get a better ISP but other than that have fun with the speeds... And another thing, ping times are terrible. member for 8.6 years, 10 visits, last login: 8.5 years ago updated 8.6 years ago
2 years ago Xplornet worked very well, i almost always got the speeds i was promised and i could do everything i needed to in the blink of an eye. nowadays I rarely get the download speed i should be getting, a very big emphasis on RARELY. During the morning, between around 8 AM to 2 PM i can get ok service, tolerable streaming speed, although after that mark is nosedives and i can barely load a basic webpage like "google" at a decent speed. And don't even get me started on using social media or a streaming service, and to be quite blunt, i just turn off my PC and go do something else because it's just not worth it anymore. Final thoughts: They work in a pinch, although, i wouldn't consider them a "long term" internet supplier, i would urge you to lean away from them, although if they're all you can get, they work well enough. member for 8.7 years, driveby review (so far) lodged 8.7 years ago
Not much good to say about Xplornet Speed, being paid for is rarely delivered... Speed drops off a cliff at around noon and doesn't recover until about 1 am the next morning. Quite often upload speed exceeds download speed in the evening. I suspect that this company over sells most or all of its resources, with little regard given to the consumer experience. member for 9.3 years, 15 visits, last login: 6.7 years ago lodged 8.7 years ago
