I had the displeasure of having to use Ygnition - the apartment complex I moved to had a contract with them. From day one I was displeased with their service. On the day my service was to be connected they told me my appointment was an all day appointment - the tech would be their sometime between 8 and 5 - wonderful!! Nothing could persuade them to narrow the time frame at all. The tech finally showed up around 3 PM. I had ordered their premium cable lineup for 50 per month. The tech comes in and hooks the cable to the back of my TV, installs the modem and is finished. I inquired why I did not have a box and the reply was that I did not pay for the box. If you want the digital box it is an extra 10 dollars per month. I paid 104.00 dollars for about 10 minutes of work from their "technician" ( I use the word loosely) .Now I have slow internet and an analog signal to my TV with poor picture quality. I called to add the digital box - 10 dollars more for the box, 10 dollars more for digital service, 10 dollars more for HD channels, and 20 dollars more for the same channel lineup I had with their "premium service, plus a 35 dollar charge to change my service!! What a bunch of robbers! The tech came with the digital box and when he installed it he could only get a poor signal - he installed an amplifier butmost of my channels only had a strength of around 50 to 60 and most of the HD channels were not even good enough to watch - so now I am paying for service which I cannot use!! I call to complain to their customer service and they informed me that if I wanted a tech to come out and fix the problem it would cost me another 55.00 dollars - to fix a problem with their service!!
They use a satellite signal from Dish network and it is always going out every time it rains and sometimes for no discernible reason at all. When you call to report it they tell you they will have somebody there sometime that day to fix it - unless it is on the weekend in which case you will have to wait until Monday - go all weekend without service and no credit on your bill!! There customer service staff is rude and unhelpful and basically could not care less if they resolve your problem or not. Their billing statement in indecipherable - there are so many charges and fees it is a joke!!
After less than 2 months I could not take it any more an d called to cancel their service. I bought an antenna instead. They made me mail their equipment back to them in Texas. I asked why their tech could not stop and pick it up and their reply was simply that they do not do that - he can drop it off but not pick it up - I guess they use this tactic to discourage people from discontinuing their service.
In total their crappy service cost me almost 400 dollars for less than 2 months of service. I cannot imagine how a company like this can stay in business - they should all be put in jail for robbery!! I would never, nver move to another apartment community that only offered Ygnition. They are by far the worst cable company I have ever dealt with. NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!!!

They were required by our apartment complex. The install guy broke the junction box (for which we'll probably get charged), and they mis-represented the service for the phone. It is an IP-Phone, but they don't tell you that until after you're signed up for it.

My Story:
Ygnition and AT&T were the only options for internet service in my new apartment. AT&T was being replaced by Time Warner in a month, so I did not want to pay their set up fees etc. for one month of internet service. Ygnition was really the only option. They offered no setup fees and 6 months for about 20 dollars a month, after which it would go to about 40. I'm not a fan of DSL, but since I had no choice I thought I'd give them a try... at least for 6 months while they were cheap.
I called the company as soon as I signed a lease on the apartment to set up installation. I was relocating to the Dallas area from Austin for a job, and I work in IT... so I NEEDED to have internet service at my apartment first thing. They scheduled a time to come hook up the modem and get me going. Well they never showed up. After waiting in my apartment all day, I finally called and asked where the tech was. I was informed that the company was "out of modems" and the company that manufactured their modems stopped making the one they used, so they wouldn't be able to hook my service up that day. They couldn't give me an ETA, and finally told me that I'd have to wait until another customer canceled their service and sent back a modem. At this point you can imagine I was livid. Not receiving a call to let me know that they could not install my service that day was inexcusable and then telling me they didn't know how long I would have to wait? This was sounding like a very unprofessional company. I told them I would go buy a DSL modem if they would just come hook it up, but they use a proprietary modem and there is only the one manufacturer, and it was just tough cookies for me.
At this point I requested a call back from a manager, which I was told they would tell me the same thing. So I decided to complain to the apartment manager. She called our Ygnition sales rep who found me a modem and had an appointment made to get it installed within a day or so. So I finally have service. I attempted to set up my wireless router and had some issues with that. I called into their technical support and the rep was able to get me going in a few minutes with their settings, so I was good to go. The speed was typical DSL speed, ok but not blazing fast. And I noticed I had to reboot about every other day because my connection was dropped. This led me to the decision to cancel my service when Time Warner became available no matter how cheap they were. It just wasn't worth it.
So I email their customer support address and inform them that I'm canceling. They did inquire as to why, so I pretty much told them my story much as I have written here. I said I was willing to give a little guy a shot if the service and support were as good or better as the big boys. Unfortunately Ygnition is severely lacking, and very unprofessional. This extended to returning my equipment as well. I was given an RMA, and put that on the outside of the box as requested and send the modem back via USPS with a delivery receipt. The modem arrived according to my receipt, but I was still charged $150 for the modem. I inquired as to why, and was told they did not receive the modem back within 10 days. I advised them that they had the modem and to give me a refund. The response I received was that they did not have the modem and to send the tracking information on the package. I was then informed that they could not find the package and I would be credited after they did. I have proof that it was delivered, and THEY can't find it... but I'm paying the price for their incompetence? I feel like I'll never be rid of this white elephant. I sent a not so pleasant email, and received a response within a few minutes that the package had been located and I could expect my refund to be processed within 5-7 days. Today, I only hope that I actually get my money back so that I can be done with them.
I've had Road Runner service for the past month, and have not had to reboot my modem once. I've learned my lesson.

Currently have this service at the Collonnade at Willow Bend in Plano,TX.
Right now after running a speed test on multiple sites, I am getting an average of 18 KB/sec. This is pretty much normal for trying to do anything in the evening with Ygnition. If you want to do anything other than look at a few web sites and check email, I'd highly recommend finding an apartment complex that doesn't force you to use this garbage.
Streaming video, forget that Games online, not at this speed Email pictures, maybe at 3am
From their website:
"Ygnition broadband is superior to conventional Cable Company and Telephone Company DSL "
Hmm, sounds like false advertising to me.

Ygnition Customer for 2.5 years:
It's funny someone said "It's not AT&T so I'm happy" because it is AT&T's backbone that provides the T1 connections into most of these properties that unfortunately have this service. They infrequently have speeds of 1.5mbps down but charge $50+ for it. You can get 12mbps down from anywhere else for that. On top of that, you cannot watch a movie on Netflix Instant Play because there just isn't enough bandwidth. We have at least 40 people on one T1 line. That's weak. I have to call them every day to tell them that there connection is sucking. I do trace routes every day and it takes over 400 ms to ping their server. That's how long it takes to ping any server on dial-up. Save your money and get dial-up if this service meets your expectation. You'll pay way less. Big thumbs down for Ygnition Networks. Their tech support people all seem to be at a "junior level" as I know more than they do and I'm at a junior networking level. If you move to an apartment community that has Ygnition contract service, find another home because it's the only thing you will be allowed to get. Comcast, Charter, Time-Warner, AT&T, etc. will not touch any of these properties because Ygnition Networks has exclusive rights to the services. If you have billing issues, to freakin' bad because you will have to talk to an 18 year old to resolve them. If streaming audio and video and playing online games are what you use the internet for primarily, then find another place to live. If you're just looking at webpages you'll be fine, sometimes. If you want to download music or video, you will get your service cut off as the inconsistently go through and terminate people using P2P file connections and sharing as it uses a lot of bandwidth (which they should be doing for the sake of everyone else on the line).

I'm in Post Square off McKinney Ave and alledgedly the back end of the connetion is 4 bonded T1's. I'm not sure that I believe that but fact of the matter is its a fairly consistent connection. In the evenings during peak times it slows to 300 Kbps. My biggest complaint is the modem they gave looks like a thermostat from the 1970s and it regularly just loses power and I have to wiggle the cord in the back to get it to come alive again. I'd say this is better than dsl but not as good as cable.

"Didn't require phone line"
"Inconsistent, spotty connections. HORRID customer service"
"Would recommend you AVOID Ygnition completely."

I was excited when I moved into the Colonnade at Willow Bend at the prospect of getting DSL without having to have a phone line - I didn't know how they did it, but I was happy to take it. But, then, I got the wonderful opportunity to experience what Ygnition really is: a company that doesn't care about helping and has no knowledge.
They signed me up for the Ygnition "4.5" service, but couldn't tell me what 4.5 meant. They couldn't tell me what speed it'd be, either. But, they said it was DSL. Oh, how I know better now...
The tech came and "installed" service on a thursday, but it didn't work - he said the "modems wouldn't sync" and someone else would have to come to fix that. They didn't come until 4 days later, even though I was told it'd be the next day. I called customer service - they said it'd be the next day, too, but it wasn't. After that, I emailed their service several times - I never got one response.
Then, I finally had everything up and running only to find that my connection would drop randomly - I dropped 5 times in the first 2 hours of using! That's when I found this forum that taught me that this is not DSL service, but rather a T1 line running to the complex and shared out - this means that my connection will vary depending on what else is going on in the complex, but worse - it varies to extremely low points that make my type of usage (gaming, downloading large files, VPN to work) absolutely impossible.
HORRID service. HORRID customer service. I do NOT recommend.
Before this, I had the fortune of having Verizon FIOS - I miss my FIOS big time.

So I have Ygnition. I see the other horrible reviews on here and it makes me somewhat nervous, but i haven't had any issues with them yet. This install is entering its 4th day so we'll see. I'll update when / if it turns south.
Install: I thought it was strange that a cable internet service needed a MAC address, but they do. They need the one from the modem. Once they had it, getting online took literally 15 seconds (time to reboot the router). I can't recall another install that went so well or smoothly and I have had 3 other "reputable" broadband ISPs (@Home, SBC, RR). I had to buy the modem from them which I did not appreciate. I prefer the RR idea of them owning it. That way, I can get a new one when it dies. I went through 4 modems in 2 years with RR so maybe this one will prove to be higher quality.
Speeds: Ygnition is a one-speed-for-all service. There are no differing tiers to enroll in. I prefer it this way, quite honestly. I always feel like a schlep paying more for 6000/1000 (or whatever) when I don't really "need" it. That said, I consistently test above 1400/1400, though that downstream spikes sometimes. I don't notice a drop off during peak hours but I suspect that many people in my complex don't use this service. Uploading that fast is just fantastic. I do a lot of website updates for a company I help support and things move so much faster now.
Reliability: We've had some stormy weather here in Houston and I've noticed no outages thus far. No real speed jumps due to storms, either. This complex is very new, though, and the wiring is probably still very good so I imagine that this has something to do with my good furtune thus far. May it continue to hold!
News Service: They don't have one. How's that for lame? I'm using some worthless free service for the moment, though my usenet usage has been fairly low for a while. I guess I could pay for one if I were that ambitious but I have come to expect it from ISPs so it irks me to do so.
Days from order to success - 30+: I ordered service back in November because I knew that we were moving. This makes my results of how long it really took them a very poor test. Ygnition is a bundled service offered by a cable provider called TVMAX. The TVMAX folks are the ones that actually did the physical install. They gave me the usual cable time range but showed up only 20 minutes after their scheduled start time. That reflects better on TVMAX than on Ygnition but it's worth noting for Houston folks.
Overall: It's better than SBC/AT&T/Road Runner. Waaaay better than satellite. I don't give them great reviews only because it's so new and time is the true test of any ISP. I've had my gripes with all of the other ones I have ever used and this will likely be no different. I wouldn't urge anyone to stay away but for sure you should approach with caution. If that many people have had a bad experience, don't let my one good review cloud your judgment.
-j
UPDATE: If you game, avoid these guys. pings ~ 900ms between 10am and midnight.

"high, stable upload speed"
"download speed fluctuate"
"seem like they improve their network"
| Pre Sales information: Install Co-ordination: Connection Reliability: Tech Support: Services: Value for money:

My apartment block is serviced by TV MAX which was the reason I was hesitate to order cable TV and internet service from them after reading so many bad reviews. After much thinking, I decided to go ahead and try anyway (also because I don't like DSL speed and since I have great service with Earthlink cable at my folk's home). I order with a very low expectation in mind.
To my suprise, it was much better than what I expected. Service ordered on Friday and the tech arrive on Monday to install the digital cable. The tech doesn't install cable internet but all you really need is your own cable modem and tell them the modem's MAC address and you can get online much sooner than TV service.
The advertised speed is 1.5Mbit up and 1.5Mbit down. However, most of the time I get speed at above 3 Mbits down and 1.2Mbit up, which is more than what I expect. At low usage time (1 am to all morning) my speed goes up to 6.3 Mbits!. Though there's quite some spike in the download speed (range from 1Mit to 6.5Mbits i noticed with DU Meter), but it average out at 4.8Mbits overall download speed.
Upload speed is much more stable at around 1-1.2Mbits, which is great compare to ATT's DSL up speed
Lowest speed I got (during heavy usage time from 8pm-12am) is around 1 Mbits, which is ok
The price is $39.99 month-to-month and there's no contract. I have not received the first bill yet (first month is free by the way) so I don't know if there will be any hidden fees.
I think their internet service which serviced by Ygnition is less costly than their TV service. TV price is 46.99+tax+some kind of Houston city tax (which i suspect is a cover up for their hidden fees)=$54/ month, which is way overcharged for a basic digital cable TV.
Overall I am please with their internet service far. There has not been any down time that I notice but this is remain to be seen. The thing i like most is the nice upload speed (highest as far as I know compare to ATT DSL& Time Warner Cable)
