I had the displeasure of having to use Ygnition - the apartment complex I moved to had a contract with them. From day one I was displeased with their service. On the day my service was to be connected they told me my appointment was an all day appointment - the tech would be their sometime between 8 and 5 - wonderful!! Nothing could persuade them to narrow the time frame at all. The tech finally showed up around 3 PM. I had ordered their premium cable lineup for 50 per month. The tech comes in and hooks the cable to the back of my TV, installs the modem and is finished. I inquired why I did not have a box and the reply was that I did not pay for the box. If you want the digital box it is an extra 10 dollars per month. I paid 104.00 dollars for about 10 minutes of work from their "technician" ( I use the word loosely) .Now I have slow internet and an analog signal to my TV with poor picture quality. I called to add the digital box - 10 dollars more for the box, 10 dollars more for digital service, 10 dollars more for HD channels, and 20 dollars more for the same channel lineup I had with their "premium service, plus a 35 dollar charge to change my service!! What a bunch of robbers! The tech came with the digital box and when he installed it he could only get a poor signal - he installed an amplifier butmost of my channels only had a strength of around 50 to 60 and most of the HD channels were not even good enough to watch - so now I am paying for service which I cannot use!! I call to complain to their customer service and they informed me that if I wanted a tech to come out and fix the problem it would cost me another 55.00 dollars - to fix a problem with their service!!

They use a satellite signal from Dish network and it is always going out every time it rains and sometimes for no discernible reason at all. When you call to report it they tell you they will have somebody there sometime that day to fix it - unless it is on the weekend in which case you will have to wait until Monday - go all weekend without service and no credit on your bill!! There customer service staff is rude and unhelpful and basically could not care less if they resolve your problem or not. Their billing statement in indecipherable - there are so many charges and fees it is a joke!!

After less than 2 months I could not take it any more an d called to cancel their service. I bought an antenna instead. They made me mail their equipment back to them in Texas. I asked why their tech could not stop and pick it up and their reply was simply that they do not do that - he can drop it off but not pick it up - I guess they use this tactic to discourage people from discontinuing their service.

In total their crappy service cost me almost 400 dollars for less than 2 months of service. I cannot imagine how a company like this can stay in business - they should all be put in jail for robbery!! I would never, nver move to another apartment community that only offered Ygnition. They are by far the worst cable company I have ever dealt with. NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!!!

They were required by our apartment complex. The install guy broke the junction box (for which we'll probably get charged), and they mis-represented the service for the phone. It is an IP-Phone, but they don't tell you that until after you're signed up for it.

Addison,Dallas,TX

Pre Sales information:
Install Co-ordination:

Value for money:

    My Story:

Ygnition and AT&T were the only options for internet
service in my new apartment. AT&T was being replaced by Time Warner in
a month, so I did not want to pay their set up fees etc. for one month
of internet service. Ygnition was really the only option. They
offered no setup fees and 6 months for about 20 dollars a month, after
which it would go to about 40. I'm not a fan of DSL, but since I had no
choice I thought I'd give them a try... at least for 6 months while they
    were cheap.

I called the company as soon as I signed a lease on the
apartment to set up installation. I was relocating to the Dallas area
from Austin for a job, and I work in IT... so I NEEDED to have internet
service at my apartment first thing. They scheduled a time to come hook
up the modem and get me going. Well they never showed up. After
waiting in my apartment all day, I finally called and asked where the
tech was. I was informed that the company was "out of modems" and the
company that manufactured their modems stopped making the one they used,
so they wouldn't be able to hook my service up that day. They couldn't
give me an ETA, and finally told me that I'd have to wait until another
customer canceled their service and sent back a modem. At this point
you can imagine I was livid. Not receiving a call to let me know that
they could not install my service that day was inexcusable and then
telling me they didn't know how long I would have to wait? This was
sounding like a very unprofessional company. I told them I would go buy
a DSL modem if they would just come hook it up, but they use a
proprietary modem and there is only the one manufacturer, and it was
    just tough cookies for me.

At this point I requested a call back from a manager,
which I was told they would tell me the same thing. So I decided to
complain to the apartment manager. She called our Ygnition sales rep
who found me a modem and had an appointment made to get it installed
within a day or so. So I finally have service. I attempted to set up
my wireless router and had some issues with that. I called into their
technical support and the rep was able to get me going in a few minutes
with their settings, so I was good to go. The speed was typical DSL
speed, ok but not blazing fast. And I noticed I had to reboot about
every other day because my connection was dropped. This led me to the
decision to cancel my service when Time Warner became available no
matter how cheap they were. It just wasn't worth it.

So I email their customer support address and inform
them that I'm canceling. They did inquire as to why, so I pretty much
told them my story much as I have written here. I said I was willing to
give a little guy a shot if the service and support were as good or
better as the big boys. Unfortunately Ygnition is severely lacking, and
very unprofessional. This extended to returning my equipment as well.
I was given an RMA, and put that on the outside of the box as requested
and send the modem back via USPS with a delivery receipt. The modem
arrived according to my receipt, but I was still charged $150 for the
modem. I inquired as to why, and was told they did not receive the
modem back within 10 days. I advised them that they had the modem and
to give me a refund. The response I received was that they did not have
the modem and to send the tracking information on the package. I was
then informed that they could not find the package and I would be
credited after they did. I have proof that it was delivered, and THEY
can't find it... but I'm paying the price for their incompetence? I
feel like I'll never be rid of this white elephant. I sent a not so
pleasant email, and received a response within a few minutes that the
package had been located and I could expect my refund to be processed
within 5-7 days. Today, I only hope that I actually get my money back
so that I can be done with them.

I've had Road Runner service for the past month, and have not had to
reboot my modem once. I've learned my lesson.

Currently have this service at the Collonnade at Willow Bend in Plano,TX.

Right now after running a speed test on multiple sites, I am getting an average of 18 KB/sec. This is pretty much normal for trying to do anything in the evening with Ygnition. If you want to do anything other than look at a few web sites and check email, I'd highly recommend finding an apartment complex that doesn't force you to use this garbage.

    Streaming video, forget that
Games online, not at this speed
    Email pictures, maybe at 3am

    From their website:

"Ygnition broadband is superior to conventional Cable Company and Telephone Company DSL "

Hmm, sounds like false advertising to me.

    Ygnition Customer for 2.5 years:

It's funny someone said "It's not AT&T so I'm happy" because it is AT&T's backbone that provides the T1 connections into most of these properties that unfortunately have this service. They infrequently have speeds of 1.5mbps down but charge $50+ for it. You can get 12mbps down from anywhere else for that. On top of that, you cannot watch a movie on Netflix Instant Play because there just isn't enough bandwidth. We have at least 40 people on one T1 line. That's weak. I have to call them every day to tell them that there connection is sucking. I do trace routes every day and it takes over 400 ms to ping their server. That's how long it takes to ping any server on dial-up. Save your money and get dial-up if this service meets your expectation. You'll pay way less. Big thumbs down for Ygnition Networks. Their tech support people all seem to be at a "junior level" as I know more than they do and I'm at a junior networking level. If you move to an apartment community that has Ygnition contract service, find another home because it's the only thing you will be allowed to get. Comcast, Charter, Time-Warner, AT&T, etc. will not touch any of these properties because Ygnition Networks has exclusive rights to the services. If you have billing issues, to freakin' bad because you will have to talk to an 18 year old to resolve them. If streaming audio and video and playing online games are what you use the internet for primarily, then find another place to live. If you're just looking at webpages you'll be fine, sometimes. If you want to download music or video, you will get your service cut off as the inconsistently go through and terminate people using P2P file connections and sharing as it uses a lot of bandwidth (which they should be doing for the sake of everyone else on the line).

"None - really - none"

Install Co-ordination:

Value for money:

I've had cable and internet providers before and do date I've never had worse than Ygnition. I live in Hidden Lakes apartments near NASA in SE Houston - they have a contract with Ygnition and as a result cable services are not available.

I've been a Ygnition customer for a year so I don't write this lightly or without proper knowledge of what a decent internet service is like.

First off. My service is down regularly - 4-5 times a week it drops out for hours at a time. Since I use Vonage as my telephone I have no phone during those times. Speed can range from a maximum of 200kbps down to 10 or 20 - and at times it even bogs down to near dial-up speeds.

Their cable TV service is also very bad. It's a multiplexed DISH network signal. I've had many problems with it and they have been out to service on many occasions. Channels disappear from the guide regularly and to get them back you must perform a QAM scan with the cable box - this takes an hour or more. But often you are now missing different channels. You repeat the process until you have the subscribed channel list. The cable box provided does not have a serial port so for TIVO you must use the infra red interface - slower. I pay about $150 per month with all the cable channels and internet service - I wonder if any of that goes back to Hidden Lake Apartments?

Ygnition technical support people are friendly - when you can get someone. You must call during business hours and be at the computer or tv. No weekends. So if you have a job not at home - you are toast unless you take the day off to contact them.

Conclusion - avoid these guys at all costs. Since this is mandated by the apartment group this is probably reason enough not to live in this complex.

    UPDATE 9/8/2006

I'm out of the Ygnition dungeon. You can now order Verizon DSL with no phone line. Ask for a Dry Loop when you order if you are in our complex. It's faster, cheaper and far more reliable. Also if you get the wireless router its not ppoe and works with Vonage. Highly recommended if you live in our complex since TWC is not available.

Value for money:

I live in Brookview Village apartments in Glenview IL, and unfortunately we have no other options in this complex YET. I work in IT and have setup users to work from home for the past seven years, and I have never experience such poor service and speeds with any cable provider in the US.

During the prime hours of 7PM and 10PM and weekends, I have seen speeds as low as 28kbps but average 100-200kbps. During non-peak times, I may get up to 700kbps but its usually short lived. Even when I'm receiving so-called good speeds, streaming video and audio cuts in-and-out badly. I also had to cancel my Rhapsody account, because the connection was so horrible.

Customer service is a joke - many folks act like they are doing you a favor by just answering the phone. Tech support fairs better, but plays the usual game of "it's your fault it doesn't work".

The good news is we just received a notification that Comcast has purchased TVMax/ygnitionnet in our complex. I've seen the Comcast techs around our building. We were without internet access for four days, because it's claimed Comcast was changing out equipment. If it were not for Comcast, I wouldn’t be renewing my lease the beginning of next year.

Ygnition is horrible. There speeds are terrible but most of all their
Customer Service is sub-standard. They have sent a technician to my home 6
times now due to the Internet outages and each time they did not fix the
problem. I had to go so far as relacing my NIC, Ethernet Cable, Coax Cable
etc. before they would consider sending a new Modem (WHICH MY INTERNET IS OUT YET AGAIN AND I HAVE THE SAME MODEM STILL) . There Customer
Service is horrible. The Technical Support varies, out of the 6 times I
called Tech Support due to Internet outages, 1 person took me through all
the exercises and checks before sending someone out to our home. They
refuse to credit any money back to my account, even though service was
interrupted for over 30 days, I still was made to pay full price. The
initial splitter that came in the modem install package was bad and they
refused to send me a new one,. Service is HORRIBLE, if you plan to move

"Hard to say"

"IMO: Avoid if humanly possible"
Pre Sales information:
Install Co-ordination:

Value for money:

Speed: 1500/1500 (Since connected I have received higher BUT also speeds BELOW dial-up)

    Price: $55

Service: Basic internet only (TVMax being the only provider of cable at a very high price)

Setup: 3 days for tech to come out and say I am OK and that I need to call back to get a modem, 12 days for them to send me a modem. (Online in only 6 because I went out and bought one)

Dynamic IP (which has only changed once due to hurricane power outages)

I ordered internet only for my Apt in Houston, TX after speaking with a rep on the phone. I asked the usual questions how long and so forth and 3 days later a tech came out and set up the service. The tech plugged in his reader and said your all done. I replied, "Ugh, don't you provide the modem?" His reply was, "You have to call a rep and ask to get one mailed to you." Considering I spoke with a rep 3 days earlier about getting NEW service and she mentioned nothing about if I need a modem I considered that very unprofessional and bleak. That was the tip of the iceberg so to speak. After day 6 I broke down and bought my own modem. On day 12 their modem finally got to me and I have not even opened the box.

Since being connected I have had very unreliable service. I have done speed tests with speeds LOWER than DIALUP (81kbps!) and those were around 12AM! (And of course no other local network activity). Disconnects are averaging 2 to 3 times a month for around 30-45mins.

I have talked with tech support about very slow download/upload speeds while using bit-torrent to distribute WORK and personal data. Recently they have begun shaping traffic. I have had repeated talks with support about this and each time they DENY what I have confirmed through packet-logging/encryption/tracert. I do not mind the fact they are trying to preserve bandwidth but I would like a choice in the matter. I can, and always have, limited my bandwidth to non-peak hours but they still deny anything is wrong on their end.

It seems this ISP has made their business by forming a type of monopoly with complexes around the area. Signing contracts that force all other competitors out so they have no problems ignoring their own customers.

I will be moving out of a perfectly good apartment because of the lack of a good ISP.

IMO stay away from this ISP at all costs.

Well, Just to make a quick post here... WARNING WARNING WARNING!!!

Ygnition is about the WORST ISP I have ever dealt with. I have had low speeds for a long while, and we are talking REALLY LOW!! (try 127/391 on a 1.5mb/512kb line), Ya its that bad. SO BAD that I cannot even use my Vonage (which ROCKS BTW!) . Well, Also their tech support is CRAP! I have called maybe 10 times over 4 days. There is never any record of previous calls or problems. I get some overpaid wannabe tech-slut that has no clue and cant fix anything. Then am told well, the network in the complex is at 88% at 2pm in the middle of the day, well gee wally, I think the Beaver needs to upgrade his SH*T!!!! I mean come on, ONE T1 for an entire complex??!!??!!?? WHAT A JOKE! Maybe if it was ONE T1 per building that would be acceptable. Base point here... DONT BUY IT! I am switching to ComCrap tomorrow, well at least its better than YigPoop!!

    Ygnition trouble

Didn't understand when I moved in to Marina Harbor apts in Marina del Rey (CA) that I was supposed to get Ygnition internet service. Signed up for a DSL line with Verizon which was fine. Then the Verizon connection failed and Verizon dithered for a week unable to fix. Finally they said they could not service my account and I called Ygnition. Ygnition made installation appointment for the next day and told me my new email address which I started broadcasting (using a random wifi signal which is quite unreliable). Next day, no show, no call. Got them on the phone and they were unapologetic about missing the appointment, promised to come the next day, which they eventually did (two days home from work...). As the installer finished up I happened to glance at his papers and discovered that my new email address was wrong (the one I had been giving out) plus they had other errors. Have had Ygnition service less than two weeks and have had one major outage so far. Not impressed with them and annoyed that the people who answer their phone (eventually) do not grasp the significance of their monopoly. Also the installer did not even leave a business card or anything with their phone number! Terrible business practices. Don't use Ygnition if you don't have to.

Ok I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks this company is worthless. I live in Waterford Harbor(TX) and so far the service from Ygnition has been nothing but crap. I work from home online and my internet has been out for up to a month (due to them boldface lying to me about coming out to fix it) multiple times and it has really affected me. I don't think they get that they are supposed to provide a service that is CRUCIAL in many peoples' daily lives. I wish someone would just contact the BBB and have them shut down.

    Ygnition is horrible!!!

I have lived in Woodborough in Houston for almost three months, and it's been three months on internet hell. My connection drops DAILY, my service gets suspended randomly for (high bandwidth use) (I have to VPN for work). The fastest speed I have ever achieved was 1200k, and that was at 2am. I normally pull around 300k and sometimes as low as 60k!!!! They have an exclusivity contract with the complex so they are the ONLY provider. BUT! the FCC passed a new law (section 628) on Oct 31,2007 that says these contracts are unethical and break monopoly laws, so hopefully soon, a new provider will offer service here. I called Comcast, but they have nothing planned at this time...

    Re: Ygnition is horrible!!!

I hear you, our complex in Houston is the same. I've been fighting it for 2 and a half years. Unfortunately from what I was told, the laws won't remove contracts already in place and that there is a possibility that they may be able to renew it. It's not too far fetched to believe that the holding companies that own these apartment complexes either own or have a large stake in Ygnition Networks. I have filed a complaint with the BBB, and we'll see what happens. Comcast won't touch an Ygnition property because there is a database that shows Ygnition as having "exclusive" property rights. The only thing you can really do right now is either wait it out or get a satellite for your internet connection and the max speeds there are 1.5 to 2.0 mbps download. Also the cost of the Ygnition service is killing me. You shouldn't pay but 19.99 for what we get. It's down constantly and people on our line are constantly jacked into these Torrent servers and uploading gigabytes every hour and hogging the bandwidth. But if Ygnition would improve their service bandwidth wouldn't matter. Comcast offers 12mbps for what Ygnition charges us for inconsistent 1.5mbps.

Please file a complaint with the BBB. If we can get enough in there they will have to do something. All we can do now is warn people. Don't move to a property that uses Ygnition service.
