    My Other Reviews·Time Warner Cable
I'm in Post Square off McKinney Ave and alledgedly the back end of the connetion is 4 bonded T1's. I'm not sure that I believe that but fact of the matter is its a fairly consistent connection. In the evenings during peak times it slows to 300 Kbps.
My biggest complaint is the modem they gave looks like a thermostat from the 1970s and it regularly just loses power and I have to wiggle the cord in the back to get it to come alive again.
I'd say this is better than dsl but not as good as cable.

    Update 5-13-07

I'm becoming happier with the service. It's been about 6 months without a single outage that I can recall and there's been some helacious storms during that time. I have worked for ISP's since 1998 and this service is exceeding my expectations. I'm not a heavy internet user at home though.

    Update 9-20-07

Netflix stopped working out of the blue a few weeks ago. I called into ygnition tech support and got an ashlei C who was in Washington and diagnosed and remedied a dns problem in about 10 minutes. I am very impressed. Also, the download speeds have increased over the last 6 months. I'm very happy with the service these days and I highly recomend them.

    My Other Reviews·Comcast
So I have Ygnition. I see the other horrible reviews on here and it makes me somewhat nervous, but i haven't had any issues with them yet. This install is entering its 4th day so we'll see. I'll update when / if it turns south.

    Install:
I thought it was strange that a cable internet service needed a MAC address, but they do. They need the one from the modem. Once they had it, getting online took literally 15 seconds (time to reboot the router). I can't recall another install that went so well or smoothly and I have had 3 other "reputable" broadband ISPs (@Home, SBC, RR). I had to buy the modem from them which I did not appreciate. I prefer the RR idea of them owning it. That way, I can get a new one when it dies. I went through 4 modems in 2 years with RR so maybe this one will prove to be higher quality.

    Speeds:
Ygnition is a one-speed-for-all service. There are no differing tiers to enroll in. I prefer it this way, quite honestly. I always feel like a schlep paying more for 6000/1000 (or whatever) when I don't really "need" it. That said, I consistently test above 1400/1400, though that downstream spikes sometimes. I don't notice a drop off during peak hours but I suspect that many people in my complex don't use this service. Uploading that fast is just fantastic. I do a lot of website updates for a company I help support and things move so much faster now.

    Reliability:
We've had some stormy weather here in Houston and I've noticed no outages thus far. No real speed jumps due to storms, either. This complex is very new, though, and the wiring is probably still very good so I imagine that this has something to do with my good furtune thus far. May it continue to hold!

    News Service:
They don't have one. How's that for lame? I'm using some worthless free service for the moment, though my usenet usage has been fairly low for a while. I guess I could pay for one if I were that ambitious but I have come to expect it from ISPs so it irks me to do so.

Days from order to success - 30+:
I ordered service back in November because I knew that we were moving. This makes my results of how long it really took them a very poor test. Ygnition is a bundled service offered by a cable provider called TVMAX. The TVMAX folks are the ones that actually did the physical install. They gave me the usual cable time range but showed up only 20 minutes after their scheduled start time. That reflects better on TVMAX than on Ygnition but it's worth noting for Houston folks.

    Overall:
It's better than SBC/AT&T/Road Runner. Waaaay better than satellite. I don't give them great reviews only because it's so new and time is the true test of any ISP. I've had my gripes with all of the other ones I have ever used and this will likely be no different. I wouldn't urge anyone to stay away but for sure you should approach with caution. If that many people have had a bad experience, don't let my one good review cloud your judgment.

If you game, avoid these guys. pings ~ 900ms between 10am and midnight.

    MAC Address

All cable modem connections use the MAC address of the modem. the headend uses them rather than a username and password. thats how they use "always on" because actually it is. Using the MAC address doesnt require you to use PPPoE either.

My apartment block is serviced by TV MAX which was the reason I was hesitate to order cable TV and internet service from them after reading so many bad reviews. After much thinking, I decided to go ahead and try anyway (also because I don't like DSL speed and since I have great service with Earthlink cable at my folk's home). I order with a very low expectation in mind.

To my suprise, it was much better than what I expected. Service ordered on Friday and the tech arrive on Monday to install the digital cable. The tech doesn't install cable internet but all you really need is your own cable modem and tell them the modem's MAC address and you can get online much sooner than TV service.

The advertised speed is 1.5Mbit up and 1.5Mbit down. However, most of the time I get speed at above 3 Mbits down and 1.2Mbit up, which is more than what I expect. At low usage time (1 am to all morning) my speed goes up to 6.3 Mbits!. Though there's quite some spike in the download speed (range from 1Mit to 6.5Mbits i noticed with DU Meter), but it average out at 4.8Mbits overall download speed.

Upload speed is much more stable at around 1-1.2Mbits, which is great compare to ATT's DSL up speed

Lowest speed I got (during heavy usage time from 8pm-12am) is around 1 Mbits, which is ok

The price is $39.99 month-to-month and there's no contract. I have not received the first bill yet (first month is free by the way) so I don't know if there will be any hidden fees.

I think their internet service which serviced by Ygnition is less costly than their TV service. TV price is 46.99+tax+some kind of Houston city tax (which i suspect is a cover up for their hidden fees)=$54/ month, which is way overcharged for a basic digital cable TV.

Overall I am please with their internet service far. There has not been any down time that I notice but this is remain to be seen. The thing i like most is the nice upload speed (highest as far as I know compare to ATT DSL& Time Warner Cable)

Have had the service for over a year with only 2 downtimes Download speeds are over 2 Meg and upload around 1.5, better than my prior dsl of down 768kbs and upload of 300kbs.

Addressing is dynamic, and the cable modem is registered by MAC address, so if you have to replace it, then the install company requires 1 day to register the MAC address.

Overall, I'm pleased with the speed and quality
