Merci

I am from Montreal, Quebec. I checked a lot of companies besides Bell and Videotron because I felt I couldn't get my dollar's worth with those two giants. I just wasn't interested in DSL, so Bell and many other companies were out of the picture. A few others could not operate in my area even though I am on the Montreal island.
If you don't take all services from Videotron, the high speed cable internet costs about 50$ per month AND you sign up a contract, which is a rip off (even though the modem is included). So I called Electronic Box, I had good information with courteous people. Prices and options are right. I chose no contract and I bought a modem. Installed maybe 2 weeks after confirmation, internet was working within the hour the technician left. A few days after getting the internet, I feel I made a good deal.
I hope it stays like that all the time!

I have been with EB since April 2004. They have a good network, good peering. Very few outages. Support is good considering this is a small operation. I have a good line (I have never lost sync), so I cannot comment on their ability to deal with Bell for line issues. No caps, no blocked ports, no hassles. They are not the cheapest, but they are reliable.
Update: switched to cable when I moved (15/1.5). Very happy with the service. Cost with taxes:66.02$. Not cheap, but no hassles so far.

A thumb up for E'box's technical support team. In my case, I need to wait for almost 2-3 weeks for my internet to work, due to Bell's terrible service in fixing the land line. After our daily & long phone conversations with E'box's technical support team, my internet connection finally works and I don't have any issue until today.

about 31 days "quick modem delivery" "slow install time, relies on videotron" "should hire company technicians"

on a regular day i see at least 2 to 3 videotron trucks parked outside my building, i signed up for service at the end of august, and they quoted me that the earliest i could get everything install was two weeks later, but it turns out i have to wait 4 weeks before. now, the modem was quickly delivered, but i believe that's due to the fact they're based in longueuil. i went with them because i'm a student and they were one of the cheapest ISP i found. however, they really need to hire their own technicians for installation since they charge 50$ for installation anyways. if they claim that videotron owns the lines and they have no choice but to go with them, then something should be done about it. videotron should have no right to monopolies the installation process, at worst, charge customers a premium fee to have electronic box's technician to get the line activated.

diskaceElectronic Box CEOPremium,VIP join:2002-02-21 | reply from Electronic Box Good day,
the delay currently is quite high. Normal delay is 7-10 days. At the time you placed your order delay was around 14 days but now we see appointments being given 3-4 weeks after the order was placed in some areas downtown Montreal.
Videotron have been saying the delays are caused by overbooked schedule due to a surge in orders for cable TV.
Unfortunately we do not have access to perform the physical installations for our clients. The end-miles is managed by the incumbent telco so we deeply rely on their efficiency. We sincerely apologizes for any inconveniences this may have caused you and hope you will enjoy the stability and speed of cable access.
We are addressing the issue to the management of Videotron right now but even their own clients are seeing huge delays right now. Things should get back to normal soon. -- Electronic Box Inc. - Jean-Philippe Béïque

The speed is good, though I experienced some lag-time during the evening one day (wasn't caused by any of the devices connected to the network). It took a long time for installation to come, though it was mainly due to a busy time of the year. It didn't make sense that my friends, who also got the same type of internet, got installation two days ahead of me even though they called for service after me.
Comments:
| | Orders/Installs are always set up with what appointments they have available at that time. If you set up an appointment now and again later- the 2nd appointment may get booked by you. It goes on what the ILEC/MSO has available in their system. It's the luck of the draw due to appointments getting changed, etc. | |

Well, this may be a rant but I don't care xD
I'm not all that easy to please when it comes to the Internet. One of the top ISP's (and fastest growing) in Canada who shall remain nameless actually disappointed me.
Electronicbox has been outstanding and I've only been a customer for a few hours. Well, okay, I had them at my last apartment as well and loved them so much I'm back!
Anyways, ping times are incredible and far better than anything I've received with either Bhell or other ginormous hogs. Also, they're local so I don't have to route my data all the way to Toronto or even New York just to get to local sites
I'm not a gamer so while ping times don't matter as much to me, I work in the telecom industry where it's all about the stats, I do however plan on hosting VoIP and running an aweful lot of VPN/RDP which is encrypted traffic and depends heavily on a stable connection.
Moreover, these people actually care about you and your needs. They aren't out to gouge you or make a quick buck. I really am proud to be an Ebox customer and wish more people will spread the word on this fantastic company.
The only issue I had when hooking up my Cable connection was my own fault. I run a Cisco 851 as my edge firewall/router and therefore my DHCP server is on another subnet (a fancy way of saying I need to configure something known as DHCP server relay to make it all work seamlessly). Because of this, whenever the 851 tried to attain an address from Ebox it looked at the approved list and realized Ebox's server wasn't listed and therefore denied the offer.
Long story short though...when I called Ebox about it, the tech walked me through the basic troubleshooting steps without babying me or holding my hand. He was polite, courteous and professional. We tried a laptop (something I did previously without success) and poof! It worked. This confirmed my Internet worked. The tech (wish I'd gotten him name...though I'd have loved to have gotten a chance to speak with JP) still STAYED ON THE LINE WITH ME!
This is VERY key! He didn't just hang up on me telling me, "we;re sorry but it's not our network so we can't help you!" He actually tried to the best of his ability (without knowing the details of my setup, which is a VERY hard task!) to provide support.
When I realized my mistake, I thanked him and made the appropriate changes and swiftly did three things:
1) Speedtet (you have to, right?!) which suprised me. I am on a regular calbe line rated @ 8.5Mbps/800kbps and I achieved 8.72Mbps/1/02Mbps!!!! This had me jumping for joy because VoIP/VPN/RDP and the other server's I require will need a good upload speed and I sure as heck got it (so long as my neighborhood isn't congested)
2) Emailed Ebox thanking them and asking for their DHCP server address(es) in order to add them to my router's config.
3) Writing this review. Call it suck-up or whatever. I don't care. So long as I don't have to deal with Bell/Videotron and have a group of people that care about my network, work hard to keep it operational and let me know of any upcoming changes/upgrades/maintenance's then I am more than satisfied. In fact, I must admit this openly - Ebox is more than just an ISP to me. They are a full support system
Can anyone beat them by sheer price/speed/service....I'd say it's possible. But overall there is not a single company that could endorse me to write such fabulous praise! Way to go Ebox!
Gotta meet JP one of these days...
-D
P.S You may not the 13 days from order -> success...this is actually Videotron's fault as they were short-staffed and couldn't get a tech out to my place until that date. Nothing to hold Ebox accountable for, just the way things are sometimes. Nevertheless, JP and Natasha put up with my whining and tried their best and I'm all the more glad to know these people DO care, as I'll iterate one last time.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Well I have no luck with getting phone and router to work with Electronicbox. Both router and phone worked previously with videotron and cable companies in the US. I have internet if I directly connect one computer, but we have three.
My main problem is that they don't provide any information. I send them an email asking 4 questions about the setting up, and all I got was a repeat of the instructions how to connect the cables.
Their website essentially contains no information about cable. And since I don't have the phone, I cannot bug them.
If there are special settings required to set up a router, then I would expect that they provide the information, instead of requiring a walkthrough with a technician.
For sure cable with electronicbox doesn't look like plug and play.

| Re: no installation information Sorry to hear about your troubles setting up your setup. Configuring a router is not all that difficult but in order for anyone to assist you (including Ebox) we'd need to know the router make/model so we can guide you through the process.
Since you stated you can get access with only one computer, the connection Ebox is providing is working fine. You just need to configure your router to use DHCP and reboot the modem - voila!
Also, the router will need to run DHCP or you'll need to configure each client on your network with a static IP and point to the router as it's default gateway.
Hope this helps! -D
P.S @eboxnat I included my client ID!
| | | diskaceElectronic Box CEOPremium,VIP join:2002-02-21 | Re: no installation information Thanks for the good comment. Really appreciated.
@josef, there is no special configuration required. Make sure you reboot the modem when you plug your router as the MAC address is kept in memory. Any MAC address change requires a reboot. If this does not fix your trouble, i guess the main issue is not with the connection but with the router configuration. You can post on the canadian broadband forum with your make/model # to get some help from the community. I will try to chime in to help you.
