I was with Videotron, was paying 10$ more for 120gigs and 30mbps. I had to add at least 2 extra 12.50$ a month for extra gigs. With Ebox, I pay 10$ less, have unlimited, yes I have a lower speed, but still very fast for downloads! Fantastic! Order process was simple, install a breeze, service up and running in less than an hour! Will recommand to all my friends! member for 11.8 years, driveby review (so far) lodged 11.8 years ago

I recently moved from New Brunswick to Montreal. I've dealt with Rogers and Bell both and had headaches up the wazoo with them both which led me to believe that all ISP's are the same. Boy was I wrong. Shopping for an ISP can be grueling when you're local, but is terrible when you are a 1000 km's away!! I looked at Bell and Videotron, but their low caps and high overage charges in Montreal was an automatic no-go for me. I stumbled across ElectronicBox totally by accident as I had made up my mind to go with Distributel because of their unlimited packages. I was shopping around early (2+ months before my move) because moving is stressful and I wanted to have this out of the way so I could concentrate on the important stuff. Distributel refused to take my order that early saying there was no way they could do it (later corrected by a rep on here). After discussing this on these forums, I began speaking with Diskace and decided to go with EBox. The only complaint I have is that with the 30Mbps package, I'm blowing through my cap too quickly. LOL I thought 500GB/month would be plenty, but apparently not!! The good thing about Ebox is that I can add an additional 75GB worth of data for $5. It's just a shame that they don't offer an unlimited package with their higher-speed tiers. member for 12 years, 760 visits, last login: 9.7 years ago updated 11.8 years ago
Me and me roomates decided to go for electronic box because of their good reputation and low prices. We decided to try the DSL line instead of the cable cause our previous isp was also on DSL and we had no problems at all, electronic box was just cheaper. 5 Mbit/s, 250GB download limit As soon as we switched, we started experiencing disconnection problems depending on the days of the week. During the weekend, we could not stay connected more than 5 minutes without losing connection for 20 to 30 seconds, which makes it impossible to do a skype call or play a game online. We called electronic box support and they reassure us saying that our upload profile was too high because of our proximity to the central and that they would send a ticket to Bell asking them to lower our upload profile. That being done, that solved the problem for a week. A week later, we started losing connection again. We called the support, same thing, upload too high they gonna lower it, and they're gonna send a technician to check the lines of the building we are in. The Bell technician came to the apartment and checked the connection. According to him everything is good but our upload which is too low (??). So he raised it. From that moment, electronic box gave up and told us that they don't know what the problem is, and strongly suggest it was our building the problem, which surprises me cause our previous internet connection was also on DSL and we experienced no problem at all. Anyway, the support technician told us that the only way to get a better service was to switch up to the cable, which we agree. He also said that DSL was full of problems and that it was almost normal that we are having problems cause we are too close to the central, which was one of the selling point the seller told us months ago: "you're close to the central so you'll have full download speed at all times" No one informed us that DSL was "full of problems" before selling it to us. Now we are moving to the cable, which is 2000 time more reliable according to the support technician. The problem is, we have to pay for a second modem, and installation fees, AGAIN. member for 11.8 years, 2 visits, last login: 11.8 years ago lodged 11.8 years ago
Mon service 60 mbps me coûte maintenant moins cher que mon ancien service 12 mbps (10 réel). un bon deal! member for 20.7 years, 6614 visits, last login: 1 day ago updated 11.8 years ago
So I decided to step out from Bell. I wanted a much faster speed but unfortunately in my area all DSL could offer was Fibe 7. So I had to go with cable, then I found out about this website and I took my time reading the reviews to select the best company. Well the only thing I can say is I did well. I was somewhat afraid of the installation (as it seems people had some issues) but it went well, it took a week from the moment I ordered and paid to the installation Date. The tech was a a Videotron one, but he did his job in a very professional manner. He completed the install in less than 45 minutes, I plugged in the cable modem I got from Electronic Box, and what do you know, 2 minutes alter I was online getting me a 30 Mbps speed. It's been 8 Weeks now and everything is well. Never experienced a drop on speed or any other glitches, the connection is stable. Bottom line : Keep it up EBox, you're the best !! member for 12 years, 9 visits, last login: 11.8 years ago updated 11.9 years ago
Ebox used Videotron's last mile, if you're on videotron, you can easily switch to Ebox. I am on their 60Mbps/3 Profile which is currently on stop sell, but hopefully will come back soon. Their internet is Fast (as fast as Videotron's), but way cheaper (55$ vs 82$ for the same thing) and come bundle with more data usage. 250Gb vs 150Gb. You can buy additional usage for much cheaper than Videotron or Bell. It is also more featured, because they do not block incomming port 80 (useful to host personal webserver), and offer static IPs for residential customers. My wish list: 1) Find a better way to provide Static IPs for cable than the PPTP VPN based solution, solution dosen't need to a consumers device friendly one, I have a business appliance, and I think business would be interested in that. 2) Find a way to provide a IP block, not just a single IPs. 3) Bring the 60Mbps package back! 4) Work on a customer portal I've been waiting for you guys for so long, thanks for being there! member for 16.4 years, 2211 visits, last login: 6 years ago lodged 11.9 years ago
I decided to make the switch from Videotron a couple of months ago when I heard that independent providers started offering better bundles for cheaper prices. Even if I had to buy their modem (130$ including shipping), I thought it was worth the risk. I had heard some horrors stories about Tek Savvy and their poor service and unreliable connections, so I went with EBOX instead, who according to them had great customer service and also offered a speedy 60mbps connection for a very good price. Talking to sales, getting the installation planned, all was good at the beginning and made me thought that I had made the right choice. That was, unfortunately, the only thing that went right. I was one of the lucky ones who got a 60mbps connection. Unfortunately, it also came with tons of issues. Constant disconnections (modem reset) every few minutes which lasted for about a month. After a couple of complaints because of no follow ups being done, some phone calls to them, my modem being replaced by their level 1 support and 3 visits from Videotron technicians, they finally had Videotron engineering look into it, since at that point, a couple of users had similar issues. 5 weeks after having my service installed, my (first) problem finally got solved. I was told by their customer service over the phone and here on the forum at the beginning of my issue that once they would figure it out, some compensation would be given to the customers, which, to this day, never happened. Then, the second problem came right after. Too many high bandwidth users for the available capacity and a couple of technical glitches (the cause is still unclear to me), so instead of waiting on them to order additional capacity and get the issues resolved, I asked to be switched temporarily to their lower speed bundle. A little more than a month later, issues got resolved, but they decided not to offer the 60mbps bundle anymore to new customers, it seemed that offering 60mbps was a miscalculation on their end and got too heavy on their network. When I called to get my 60mbps, I was told that the cut on that bundle included myself. I explained that I got switched temporarily since I had tons of errors, but they never allowed it back, even if it was probably the main reason why I went with them. Very disappointing. In the process I had CSR never calling me back, others simply forgot to pass my order through their system which caused delays, tech support unaware of major issues, customers being left out in the dark, etc. For now, fingers crossed, the 30mbps connection that I have at the moment seem stable. Which by the way is the only reason why I gave 2 stars instead of 1 for connection reliability. If it stays that way, I will up it with time. To be fair, Electronic Box is an independent (and small) ISP which can surprisingly offer better bundles than the main competitors like Bell and Videotron, and at a better price! BUT... it has its downsides: you gotta be prepared to deal with daily skeleton staff, errors being made (too?) frequently, very limited technical support, a disorganized company that seems to be taking a lot of decisions on the spot and a service delivery that is still at the mercy of the big names. At the end, it's your call to make if you can deal with smaller businesses or not. As for me, only time will tell. I will continue to update this review with further events if anything else comes up. member for 18.1 years, 199 visits, last login: 6.7 years ago updated 11.9 years ago
I have 30/2 Mbps (Cable) with 250GB for only 49$/month with no contract at all! I've been connected in only 3 days. Not sure yet about the pings but seems to be the same than with Vidéotron. For now, would recommend it without any reserves! member for 19.2 years, 607 visits, last login: 5.7 years ago lodged 12 years ago |
