Usually everything works fine, was a Charter customer since 98 and never had problems. But lately have been having problems (after the suddenlink buyout).

I have been unable to send emails for approx. 1 month, chatted with tech support multiple times. They stated that if the web mail was working that outlook/outlook express/etc should work too. None of them work, have verified settings on multiple pcs. Seems funny that I am unable to telnet to the smtp server, but can do it from non-suddenlink connections in my area. Am also unable to trace-route smtp mail server without timeouts, but have no problems from non-suddenlink networks. I tried to explain that if I cant connect to the server I would be unable to send mail, they said it was a "Outlook problem and contact Microsoft" They stated no one else has reported problem so they arent going to do anything Their support sucks. Guess I'm gonna have to call and go through phone-hell to get some satisfaction.

I've had some fairly mixed opinions regarding suddenlink. Their connection
was a lot faster and more stable when they were

Still Cox communications. I've had to have the come out to the house to
diagnose fix something that should have been taken care of

From the get go.

The Voip modems they include are garbage, I have it split using my old
Motorola modem much more stable connection.

Other than that, they have been decent, nothing spectacular though.

Since Suddenlink bought the Georgetown, TX market from Cox, the internet service has plummeted and is completely unreliable. The story is too aweful to fully describe, so suffice it to say, I'm going to be switching to 768k DSL with Verizon and pray they bring FIOS to my neighborhood sometime soon.

Avoid this company at all costs.

Amen brother!

Sudden Link was a sudden disaster the first day it went on line. For a company that purports to be the fourth largest in the United States, it sure doesn't know much about ITT, but it sure does know how to fill the corporate deep pockets.

Run, don't walk, to the nearest Direct-TV provider for excellent service and use any other Internet service BUT this pitiful offering that has the nerve to call itself a service.

And don't forget to file a complaint with the FCC..

Thumbs down

The speed im paying for is 5.0Mbps........
The speed i get is 500kb which drops as low as 100kb quite often. techs have been out replaced ends, replaced cable ,replaced this and that. Then they test it with there little black box they have seems to be working fine now sir....its the same old line of crap...I read something the other day on a website stateing how a lot of these cable services do buissness for instance say your paying for 6.0Mbps speed that doesnt mean your going to get 6.0MBPS speed it just means you can get up to a maximum of 6.0mbps speed when in actuality you may pay for the 6.0mps speed and end up only geting 200kbp..its very shady and unethical but suddenlink pulls this bit on its customers aparently...

plus for also take into the acount that all customers of a cable internet service use that exact one line. in other words if say you live in a town and 200 people have suddenlink and say your on it and so are another say 85 people at the same time...all 85 people will have loss of speeds cause there all sharing the cable speed together.....which is a load of crap i actualy read up on that as aposed to dsl where u have your own line and share with no one.......

cable net is actualy probably the crapiest internet you can get its not very reliable at all.....and suddenlink is the worst of the worst...

as far as downloading music its faster way faster.... on dial up it would take like 30-60 minutes and now it takes anywhere from 20-60 seconds

now here comes the stupied part ok kmy cousin has yahoo dsl his speeds on songs or downloading videos is always stuck at the speed on the file share program shows the number 70kb

on songs my speed can get up to 200kb .
yet on videos it goes crazy it could be at
for instance 80 kb and go as high as 200kb
then just start droping and go as low as 15 kb
then stays at anywhere from 15kb to 40kb
i hate it its bull crap

far as pages loading faster not really
some times they just set there and wont load...
and some times the videos on you tube load other times connections to slow...
and the connection goes dead completely dead
at least once a day and i have to unplug the modem and then plug it back up

I wish i could get dsl where i live at . my cousin lives about a 5 minute drive from me yahoo is available to him but not to me it sucks

So is suddenlink better than dial up yeah but not by a whole lot !!

Even in Amarillo Texas in the middle of no where you can get speeds at least 1800 download and 350 upload. Using Yahoo, AT&T DSL.. Now that is really bad that on Suddenlink cable you can only get 200 down. I know they are gettig lots of complaints but will not do any work on the problem.
Wish I had a another choice.

Suddenlink bought out Cox in my area 6 months ago. Last week my IP address finally switched over to a Suddenlink IP. When it did, I lost access to the Cox newsgroup server. I've spent the past week sending emails and making calls to both Cox/Suddenlink tech support. Suddenlink tech says they have no local newsgroup server support. Cox says they do and set me up with it, and it doesn't work. Both have basically said the ball is in the others court and cannot resolve this problem. For myself, I am looking for the first lifeboat I can find out of this mess! I've heard rumors that Brighthouse will be buying out Suddenlink locally soon. I can only hope that this is true.

SUDDENLINK CANNOT PROVIDE CONSISTENT INTERNET CABLE SERVICE IN TRUCKEE CA.

Truckee's (California) local cable co. has changed hands twice since 2004, when I first subscibed to TV & high-speed internet for our second home: USA Media, Cebridge, and now Suddenlink. Neither Cebridge nor Suddenlink notify clients of frequent service interruptions, including the TV service. Suddenlink has been the cable provider for almost one year; the cable internet does not connect for hours during business hours on weekdays, and especially on weekends and overnight. That is in addition to the predictable (but rare) weather/temperature problems in my town that affect electrical equipment.

Suddenlink has NO TECH SUPPORT beyond the initial set up. They make, but never keep, appointments for existing residential clients. I & others in my neighborhood have spent literally over one hour on hold to finally talk to someone (usually in Texas) who never knows the reason for the outage in Truckee / Lake Tahoe.

This has been a disaster for my husband & I who rely on the internet (downloads, uploads, & email) for business while staying at our second home. We also rent the home on weekends to people who require internet, too. No access is a major renter complaint.

Last month, Suddenlink lost connection to my modem again; according to the local office - that I *visited personally* 3 times - Suddenlink "changed the billing" and that certain modems were no longer being identified (DNS?). Changing and reconfiguring the modems did not reconnect me. Both modems install on my computer, Suddenlink has my account as "active," reconfiguring protocol and address with the techs by phone and the local office does nothing, so Suddenlink still cannot communicate with my modem. They scheduled a tech service "as early as possible" (we scheduled and confirmed it three times) *THREE WEEKS* from the time I talked to them. As usual, the tech never showed. Now they still want me to pay them for internet service since THEY stopped providing over 1.5 months ago, so I am hassling their bill, as well.

I lost one week of life trying to fix this with Suddenlink.

Result:

I complained to the Truckee Franchise and switched to AT&T DSL for high-speed internet. Although I prefer not to deal with Suddenlink at all, I am keeping Suddenlink's *cable TV* b/c the service interruptions aren't critical to my livelihood, and it's a hassle to install the DSL or satellite links for TV. The *TV cable* signal is strong enough that even Suddenlink can't completely interrupt it like the internet signal, apparently. However, I may still have to change services given Suddenlink's incompetence. Suddenlink never managed to restore my internet connection.

The DSL is FASTER than cable in Truckee - especially uploads - over 5500 Kbps & 650 Kbps - than Suddenlink's ~3000 Kbps & 300 Kbps. According to others in my neighborhood, *including the Town of Truckee,* the DSL has only lost connection once in the last two years! Even during horrendous snow storms. DSL high-speed is only $3 more per month than Suddenlink's.

My bills in Truckee were/are:

Suddenlink Expanded TV Cable w/ fees $40.97 / mo

Suddenlink High Speed Internet w/ fees $31.95 / mo & No refunds for downtime

- versus -

AT&T Yahoo High-Speed DSL $34.95 / mo & No term

Cable internet was a big step up from dial up.
Speed at first was 500/100 has gradually improved to 5000/300 at this time.
Paid $49.95 less $10 disc. for using their cable, still the same price.
Order and Install process was good.
Toshiba PCX2500 Modem supplied and installed in July 2, 2001 and still good to date June, 2007.
Since Fiber optic install in 2005 service has been about 98%. Before that it was about 80% of the time.
Mostly good experience's. Sometimes tech support wants to try to treat you like a dummy so I just hang up on them and call back to get another tech. I am not a geek but, I'm not a dummy either.

There is no contract or atleast wasn't when I signed on with cox. I have never lost my connection it just slows way down. I have scanned my node and there is only like 7 people on it. Maybe more now I haven't done it in a few months. The weather (rain) seems to really slow it down and I have a new line from the pole to the house so its nothing on my end. My connection speed never stays the same it always varies and I'm not talking about a few kb, I'm talking a few mb. I will often kill all my messangers and run speed test and I hardly get the 4mb connection usually around 3mb and often as low as 512kb. Upload speed is horrible.

Ive got no expierience with their cable tv services but as for their internet, it just down right sucks. Id change to dsl but there CO is to far from my house. So basically its cable or dial-up. If you are a gamer and you want reliability go with DSL if you can because my pings are typically in the 200's and most times its impossible to deal with.

Customer Service is a joke. They are scripted and are not trained past what to do other than reset of modem.

They say they are upgrading the nodes in the area but they have been saying this for six months, how long does it take really?

Upgrade

Upgrading plant takes along time its not just flip of a switch. It takes replacing feeder that is not up to code and the equipment takes along time to replace its not something that takes five minutes.

Re: Upgrade

5 minutes sure, but from reading the reviewers previous posts in the suddenlink forum, suddenlink was "working on the nodes" in November of 2006 ... unless they have a team of monkeys upgrading their equipment this is unacceptable.

Better than expected or told.
None so far.
If you are in the Brenham city limit's, seems worth a try.

I ordered due to a special they were running because I have digital through them, once I found a modem, called and moved install date up, they complied. I ran a speedtest through ATT DSL and through DSLReports, and both were better than I was told I would get, so I am impressed and everything is ok so far. Would recommend to anyone in the Brenham area, but, we are lucky, Northland and Cebridge set up the high speed here, and the Suddenlink takeover went smooth. Haven't heard any complaint's from resident's here except for the price for those that don't have digital through Suddenlink.

Just so you know...

You say Northland and Cebridge set up the cable out there and Suddenlink took over...

Suddenlink is Cebridge. They simply changed their name because there was too much bad customer reaction tied to the Cebridge name. I used to work tech support for them before they outsourced and most of the tech don't have a clue about line quality indicators or how to test.
I had Cox for a number of years before they sold their suburban territories to Suddenlink and in four years only experienced one outage and never had issues with slowness. I groaned when I heard Suddenlink was buying our territory. The sad thing is that Cebridge/Suddenlink use the same equipment and techs. The difference is the head-end equipment, replacement parts and what they allow their techs to do. If you haven't had trouble with Suddenlink yet, just wait. You will.
