My service from Suddenlink has been very satisfactory. I am not a power user, so the 8000/512 service is plenty for my needs. My service has always been extremely reliable. We have a good office here in Jacksonville with friendly helpful people. I really have had a good experience with Suddenlink.
I have bundled my services and have High Speed Internet, Phone Services, High Definition Package, all of the Movie channels, and basically everything they have to offer. Monthly charges are approx $195, which is relatively expensive, but then everything is expensive these days. All in all, I am happy with my service.
Update: 4-1-09
I am still just as satisfied with Suddenlink as I was in the beginning. Stable connection, consistent speed, and good channel selection. I could always hope the price would go down, but I have no complaints of the value I receive for the price paid.

Another quarter goes by and no new upgrades (for Greenville). The rest of the NC markets are just oozing with new HD channels while Greenville is stuck with 24.
Internet service is better; still stuck at 768 up though. I do get close to the advertised speeds but only close.
------------------------------------
They recently upgraded the Internet to 12/768 which is nice. But there wasn't an increase in upload speeds, it's been stuck at 768 since 2004 (the last upgrade from Cox). CSRs don't even know that the speeds have already been upgrade. As of yesterday their still saying that "their planning the upgrade". (Pre-Sales information:1)
HD channels are still lacking, and the selection varies from market to market. Due to a sub-par infrastructure they can't provide the same line-up of HD channels throughout the area. The market that I'm in seems to be getting the short end of the stick, we're 6 HD channels behind the rest of other NC markets.
Please let the Greenville market have SCI-Fi HD before Battlestar Galatica comes back!

| Hey Shelby, is there a way to complain to the BBB about Suddenlink man? I mean they are the worst provider here in Greenville since they bought out Cox. I was very happy and satisfied with Cox and never once had a problem. But since Suddenlink came here, there has been nothing but problems. They don't do crap, or fix any of my problems. All they do is send out techs to come and fix the problem but all I ever get is the same thing.... there is nothing they can do and my speeds and everything else are normal. It's like they don't want to do anything you know. I'm just sick and tired of all the bs here. I'm about ready to complain to the BBB and get a petition or a group of people/friends I know that have Suddenlink to sign up and complain to them. Anyways, let me know man. Thanks!!

Was stuck with Hughes.Net for 7 years because I live deep in the woods. Finally moved Hughes contract was up so I switched to Suddenlink. The only complaint I have is that the connection has gone down 4 times in 3 months.Prices are good, Tech support is very nice.Download speeds are lower than I expected from a cable connection but compared to the disaster that is Hughes.net the speeds fly!! I would recommend Suddenlink. I feel like for the first time in years I have a real internet connection.

"Good reliable connection"

Didn't even consider DSL when I moved to Bossier City from the Florida panhandle. I came from a Cox cable service in FL that was awesome. Suddenlink had recently took over the Cox service when I moved to Bossier City. When I first signed up in 2006, service was good except for the occasional cable drops - modem would just not sync. I took the cable modem off the same line as the DVR and it seemed to fix that problem. Latley, over the last 6-8 months, overall speed seems to be decreasing at the same time suddenlink is increasing service speed. I'm averaging a connection in between 1.5-2.5 Mbs during most high use times of the day. Late at night or early morning, I can pull 8Mbs without a problem, sometimes I can pull more. Through wireless surveys I'm noticing more and more wireless networks in the neighborhood and assuming most of them are on a cable connection, it makes sense that the area is oversold and helps explain my slower connection. I don't believe there is an issue from the pole to my cable modem since I can get the speeds I pay for in the middle of the night. My modem shows the same SNR during fast and slow times.
I'm considering switching to DSL now that AT&T is improving speeds in my neighborhood. Figure if I can get a consistent 6Mb connection on DSL it would be better that paying for 8 and barely getting 3.
***Update*** - The day after this review, I sent Pete Abel an email with a log from a week's worth of speed tests. The very next day, upgrades in my area were performed and I consistantly am getting 7-8Mb down. I am very impressed with the quick response. The regional and local tech mangers followed up with me after the upgrades. It was admitted that my area with simply oversold. My thoughts of switching to DSL are gone now as long as my connnection remains where it should.

| Suddenlink is killing me! I had Cox and suddenlink took over Mount Pleasant, Tx. It was ok when i had cox and it was ok when i went to suddenlink BUT when I moved and it got hooked up through suddenlink, it is crap, I got the fastest internet possible through them and its going at about 300 mbits when it should be like 9000 mbits. There seams to be a problem with that picture. Plus, 4 technicians have came out and it just continues to mess up. they blamed it on my router, so I told them to direct connect and it still didn't work. Everytime someone else comes out they say it's my router and so I say the same thing. I'd literally me better off just getting dial up. you notice I put suddenlink in all lowercase because they aren't important. | Suddenlink is a JOKE, but I'm not laughing I stumbled across this site and I absolutely agree. I'm in north MS and Suddenlink is HORRIBLE. The service is awful, doesn't work half the time and forget talking to anyone who knows what they're talking about. I waste anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours a week trying to get my internet service to work (which I might add is a whopping $50 per month) They have no problem increasing rates at will.
By the way, I was looking for an alternative ISP when I found this site. Government rules and regulations give these companies a monopoly with non-compete laws. In my business, we would lose all of our customers if our service was this bad. | |

| Suddenlink not only sucks, it blows Suddenlink took over for Cox in much of texas, including my area. the cable quality is shoddy on many channels, and the "high speed" internet conks out at least once a week.
Which makes it even more infuriating when I hear their stupid commercials on the radio about how "boringly reliable" they are. They're about as reliable as tissue paper shock absorbers, and as useless as a weasel in a cardboard shirt.
To make matters worse, Verizon DSL seems to realize this, so they charge an arm and a leg, though at least they don't have the outage problems SL does | |

| Suddenlink Look guys I have worked for Suddenlink about a year and I agree the company has trouble. But, being on the inside, I know they could care less about what people are thinking. It is the "good ole boy" system and when you go to your local office and complain they laugh and talk badly about that customer. I even know of situations where employees will do things to the drop to create a repeattrouble call and aggrevate the customer. If only you guys knew what I did, you would understand how Suddenlink really don't care if you get mad, threaten not to be their customer, or get pissed off because where I'm from they don't care. | |

The tech support personnel do not enjoy their jobs, quite a few, but not all, are rude, and it can take several weeks or months for problems to be fixed, if they are not directly related to your computer.
Suddenlink has recently increased their price rate for 8mbit connections in my area, which is the highest speed offered in this area. The price listed in this review includes their Basic cable service bundle discount.
My good experience was having a solid 8 megabit line for half a year, with the occasional outage every few weeks. No bandwidth limitations meant I could play games with peace of mind that I would not run my bandwidth out. Suddenlink also has a history of upgrading their customers connection speed to the next tier for free when node upgrades are distributed.
My bad experiences were suddenlink's inability to discover the box on the pole out side my house had been improperly tightened, Water leaked in, and corroded the entire unit, and the coaxial cables running into my house, all of which had to be replaced. I was incredibly disappointed with suddenlinks handling of this matter, as they had threatened to charge me steep fees for sending out a technician for a problem they could not see, it took 3 months to find this problem. I was, however, credited for the time.
More recently, aging nodes in my area were oversold, this causes primetime speeds to drop to below 700 k/bits a sec, and non prime time speeds to fall rather short of what is being paid for. Again, technical support was not very unhelpful in finding out this was the problem, I was eventually successful in finding out this information, after traveling up the chain.
--UPDATE--
As of February 18, 2009, the above issue has been resolved and service has ironed out to what it should be at all hours. Not quite sure I want to bump up the reliability rating of this review too much just yet, due to the occasional few second disconnects and TV signal loss every other week or so.
Suddenlink likely runs better service in other, or newer areas, I can only speak for the service in my area.

Suddenlink acquired my Cox area about 2 years ago and it has been an interesting change in this time.
I had few issues under Cox and almost all were dealt with swiftly. With Suddenlink the service has been a little more sporadic.
We were moving house and arranged to have Suddenlink activate all services on the Thursday as we were moving in on the Friday. Well we arrived on the Friday to find nothing worked. We had no cable TV, the modem would not sync, etc.
After a couple of late-night calls to Tech Support they arranged to send someone out the following Monday, and indeed they did get things sorted out (eventually). Since then, when the service works it is very good most of the time. The issue is whether it will be usable from one day to the next. I frequently experience extremely high pings at peak times, and had to call off doing some online gaming with some friends for the past two days due to my ping being almost 1,000 to our chosen gaming server. Fortunately today the Suddenlink gods smiled on me and my ping was restored to a more normal 150. Tomorrow...who knows?
Other issues we have had include:
- when our cable telephone service was installed our Internet was disabled the day before the install with no notice. We called Tech Support to find out that this was intentional and part of the transition process. It would have been nice to have been told this in advance.
- we specifically requested an advertised "bundle" when we first moved in here, only to find out that Suddenlink had just charged us for everything separately on one bill for the first three months or so, meaning we were overpaying by about $30/month. After a lot (and I mean a lot) of wrangling with Customer Support they eventually nailed down the issue and gave us a $200 service credit.
- after the new cable modem was installed to provide cable telephone (in addition to cable Internet) we still had no Internet access, and the installer had high-tailed it out of here the second he got the phone working. About 12 hours and 8 calls to Tech Support later it was figured out that the modem was only operating on the telephony side and not the Internet side. I had to call the Network Operations Centre and find someone who was extremely knowledgeable to help me fix the issue as normal Tech Support could not.
We pay Suddenlink $160 a month for cable TV, telephone (unlisted), 8MB cable and a DVR which I feel is good value for money. The only issue is that which I alluded to above, my ping will just skyrocket on occasion for seemingly no reason at all.
If Suddenlink could fix this glitch then I would certainly rate them higher. As it is all I can say is that they are merely ok and that if you have other choices then you should probably consider them before looking at Suddenlink.
-------------------------UPDATE-------------------------9/16/08-------------------------
Pete Abel and Johnna Turner at the Suddenlink Head Office arranged for my house to be re-wired from the pole down, and after this was done I no longer have any excessive packet loss or ping issues.
Thanks!

I live in a very old section of north Abilene, next door to Hardin-Simmons University, and have subscribed to Suddenlink's "Premier" internet service since June 2006.
The "Premier" package is Suddenlink's highest-speed residential offering, and costs $55.99 per month. As of early 2009, the current top speed offered in my neighborhood is 10mbps download, 800kbps upload. My actual download speeds remain very consistent between 9 and 10 mbps, 24/7.
In the almost 3 years I've been a Suddenlink customer, the internet service has been out 2 or 3 times....the longest outage was less than a day.
In my experience, the service has been excellent. And if there is a problem, it's quickly resolved. Suddenlink is currently offering up to 20mbps in certain markets; I can't wait until that speed comes to Abilene!

Long story short. My connection has been fine for months, but about two months ago, my download speeds dropped from the normal 2Mb down to 256 kilobit. I'd call tech support, and after about 30 minutes of resetting and reprovisioning, my speeds would come back. They'd say "ALL FIXED", and I'd believe them. A few days later, it'd happen again. I'd call in with the same issue, and go through all the hassle and time to get the same result. "ALL FIXED!" ... A few days later, it would happen AGAIN! I have had this happen no less than 15 times, and every single time, they never get to the root of the problem. They temporarily fix the problem, and could never permanently fix anything.
I've been passed from one person to the next, with each one saying "I can't do anything from here".
Suddenlink's tech support is extremely disjointed. Tech support can only get you back online, but can't handle anything else, and nobody can escalate a problem to someone more informed. All they will do is tell you to call "somebody else" (whoever that is), and try to pass the buck as soon as possible. They have no paper trail, and every time you call is like the first time.
The only thing i can gleam from the many times I've called is that some system somewhere in the netherregions of Suddenlink's system, is that I'm "Downloading too much" and getting capped. Nobody knows what that cap is, or how often it is checked. They're all clueless However, I don't download that much stuff, and seem to hit this problem if I'm downloading at my max speed for more than 30 minutes. Nobody in the billing department or tech support has any clue what's going on.
I've had it with their "not my problem" tech support attitude, and will be switching to another provider ASAP (even though it will cost me quite a lot more).
