I was sold on the claims of unlimited bandwidth and space, but unglued when their support team told me that my account would be suspended due to high transfer bandwidth use, I was no longer believing their bull. Then after they had a billing snafu, and charged everyone that had a credit card on file the next year's dues, I was awestruck. (Luckily, I had set my settings to NOT auto-bill). I stayed with them, hoping that they'd get a reality check and become a better host, but after having their email services go down on a business account for a week, I was fed up with them. I've moved on to greener pastures (HostGator!). The control panel software was also very buggy and required more work to get users and email accounts setup than was necessary.

They are very good on the value, giving users tons of space and an increasing amount of bandwidth per month.
Their control panel is now very speedy. The one-click installs are good but the upgrades break my settings so I rarely upgrade.

I've hosted my two domains on Dreamhost for 5 years or so, and their value has been impeccable. By paying in advance for two years, I get a great monthly rate on generous e-mail box allowances, web services, shell access, etc. I don't operate a business or busy community site, but if I did it would be easy to setup and manage. Though your package may vary, since I joined them in 2004, and have voluntarily moved to new servers, I have unlimited disk space, unlimited bandwidth, unlimited users, unlimited mailboxes. They have status updates on outages and changes on a Wiki, and an RSS feed, and the channel is very busy, always getting updates.
These folks work hard to earn and keep business. I heartily recommend them. PM me if you'd like a discount code.

I have been through my fair share of hosts, and have finally found one that I will use until either of us die. My DreamHost website have been up and running since 2005, and have seen very little to no downtime. DreamHost offers amazing space and bandwidth at and absolutely unbeatable price! Although you will never use the space and bandwidth unless you are doing something illegal. They have absolutely amazing uptime, and they do Not over sell their boxes. My DreamHost box has around 30 other websites on it, 15 of them being my own. GoDaddy and other hosts put over a thousand sites per box. Although DreamHost is known for email problems, we have seen very little email downtime, and very little downtime at all in that case. I recommend DreamHost to anyone and everyone I know. They are truly unbeatable for the price.

I've been a dreamhost subscriber for over a year now, and overall have been satisfied, though i do have to say that the outages are certainly inconvenient. The major problem anyone would identify with dreamhost are the outages which are prone to popping up at random, potentially lasting as many as 2 days.
Overall i recommend dreamhost for home users, and people who want a webhost for themselves or a non-critical website. If you cannot afford to have your site go down, ever, then you should pay more for a more reliable webhost.

Dreamhost seems good at first but I ended up leaving before their 97 day trial full refund period was up. My site would go down regularly due to the server been locked up or overloaded. Emailing customer support was usually quick, but they would just reboot the server without fixing the problem.
When it was working, my site didn't load very fast either.
I've since switched to Hostgator and am much happier both in terms of uptime and WordPress load speed. It's about the same price too.

This is an excellent host, It was recommended by the guys at compsci.ca who had been using it for a couple of years. Along with the discount coupon they provided, the price was ridiculous cheap for great service and a great plan that came with ssh access too 
The control is so amazing that I wish they provided hosting for other services too, like ventrilo :P

After looking for a new host I came across Dreamhost while they were running their 10 year anniversary special that included 500GB of shared space along with 5TB of bandwidth per month. Each week your space grows by 2GB and 40Gb of bandwidth, all this ended up costing me $10 for the year with the $119 anniversary price break! At this price it was a no brainer but I was not sure how a west coast service might pan out connection wise being that I living in NY. Their support staff are some of the coolest people I have come across and they answer your inquiries and fix problems extremely fast. So far them being on the west coast is a non issue as far as speed is concerned. Their control panel is in home built and works just fine. If all stays the same I will continue with them next year for their current price of $120 a year.

Includes all the standard web server features such as PHP, MySQL database, CGI, etc. Plenty of bandwidth, storage. and email accounts. They do domain name registration/hosting as well. For such a low price, it's almost too good to be true (keyword: almost).
Has been doing fine for our gaming community website for nearly 3 years now. There has been the occasional downtime but when it happens it gets fixed pretty quickly. I would estimate we have had the equivalent of 30 minutes of downtime per month. Really not that bad. Other than that it can slow down a bit at times, probably the MySQL server getting taxed so loading forum pages for example can take a few seconds, never more than about 10 seconds for a page at the worst times. Download speeds have always remained within acceptable broadband speeds, so nothing to complain about here.
Overall, very good value for the money. I have yet to see another web host offer superior value. Highly recommended.

I would not reccomend this to a larger business due to higher risk of downtime and no dedicated servers. But for the average Joe looking to set up a personal site/blog, the local entrepreneur, or the techie out there this is an excellent deal for those just starting out or who don't need much. They oversell their hosting packages with a lot of bandwidth and disk space (more than most will ever need). It is low-cost compared to many hosting companies, the tech support is fast and polite, and a lot of included features. Being honest and straight-forward about everything from upgrades to feature additions to network or server issues is the least of which many other companies simply do not offer. For those with small / growing businesses or those looking for their own space to run other programs (maybe a game server?), they are currently beta testing virtual private servers. I have used them for over a year now and have not had any major issues and suggest it to anyone looking for a little web space.
