AT&T "Service" "Great Service"

I have seldom had any service interruptions and any I've had have mostly been self-inflicted. I've been a Linkline customer for over 10 years.
However, my last outage was a double hit where both the AT&T line went down and my modem died. The modem was at least 10 years old. All of the help I got was great and there was very, very little "hold" or "all service reps are busy" time.
On Saturday morning Rufio V. was the greatest. He tried to resuscitate my old modem, helped me select and buy a new modem, and then patiently went thru a new modem setup. It took hours, mostly my fault.but he was exceptional. Thanks

Linkline is great. Customer support actually in this country unlike others and Linkline's people know what they are talking about. No issues at all! I will not switch to another and I have used others in the past and they were nightmares to deal with.

I've been with LinkLine for over 5 years now and HAD been very happy. Just a "normal" 768K/128K line with a static IP. On 8/18 (almost three weeks ago), I decided to add a DSL line to a relative's house and I've had nothing but problems since.
I got an immediate automated response for my entries in the "Pre-qualify your number" form. A day later I got a email listing my speed/pricing options for that line. I replied to the email with my selection. Four days later I had to send a "What's the status?" email. I got an apologetic reply with the status.
A couple of days after that, the original DSL line goes down. My first thought is "They're REPLACING, not adding the new line". I try calling. The call goes straight to a personal voicemail account. I call again, thinking I mis-dialed. Same result. I go to a local restaurant with free internet access and attempt to connect to the website. WEBSITE DOWN! A couple hours later, the website returns and I call their number. A short troubleshooting session reveals that in addition to the system going down, I have a loose connection between my modem and phone line. The technician notes that my modem is old and promises to send me a replacement.
Over one week later, neither modem (for both new and old lines) has arrived, so I AGAIN send a "What's the status?" email. I get a response stating that the completion date on the new number is 9/1 and the modem should arrive on that day. There's no record for the replace modem, but the technician promises it's now "in the system", and should arrive in a day or two.
On 9/1, the modem arrives for the new line and the following day, I connect the modem to the line. The DSL light blinks, indicating that there is no connection. I email tech support and a "dispatch" is set for 9/7.
It's now 9/8, almost three weeks since my order. The DSL light is still blinking, the replacement modem hasn't arrived, and there's been no response to YET ANOTHER "What's the status?" email. I'm about to make my life MUCH simpler and switch ISPs.
UPDATE:
After a strongly worded email to linkline, I received both a call and email from tech support apologizing and explaining that they had been having problems working with the local phone company and that yet another dispatch was scheduled in a couple of days. The day after the scheduled dispatch, I find that the line is still not working. I spend next half an hour on the phone with tech support troubleshooting the line. Eventually the problem is traced to an old security system (with remote monitoring) that had not been completely disconnected. After disconnecting the phone lines from the security system and resetting the modem... SUCCESS!
I've had no problems since (the replacement modem also arrived). I've raised my ratings here, but still have to take a couple of points off due to slow response times. A big thanks to Don for being the primary contact in resolving this situation

We are getting 722/132 because our lines are not good enough for faster bandwidth. For a static IP with 100MB web space and an annual contract, prices can't be beat.

When I had Verizon home DSL we had reliability but god forbid you want to speak to a human being, I transferred my home DSL to Linkline since we already used them for our business (Found them through a reference) and haven't looked back since, And it's kinda of nice to be able to have our home and business networks configured so they are transparent to the our macs. Business DSL is awesome and don't think I would ever transfer to another ISP.

Contract price not specified. AT&T "Refreshingly helpful customer service... connection good so far... competitive pricing" "Occasionally sloppy work, router stopped resolving IP Address via DHCP" "Am optimistic that I will much prefer this company to the alternatives"

The choice: give my money to AT&T who sound like they are only interested in that and hope to get as much of it as they can or... give my money to Time-Warner who can't even be bothered to send a tech to install my service in the first place and lie to me about it.
Or, give my money to Linkline who have so far been helpful, knowledgeable, and seem to actually want to provide me with a decent service in exchange for my hard-earned cash.
It's no choice at all, really.
I know you know what it's like to talk to a customer service rep who doesn't know an ISP from a DHCP and think a MAC address is where you can get an Apple computer. Call me naive and easily impressed but I was floored when the first guy I talked to at Linkline used the term "dry loop" appropriately and then proceeded to explain to me something I got lost on regarding the DSLAM and why it takes 5 days to set up an ADSL.
It was as if he knew what he was talking about and not reading prompts off of a computer screen!
One negative note: They told me that my work order to have my DSL "installed" was Thursday. I called Weds because my modem still had not arrived and the rep said that my modem had not even shipped yet. He fast tracked it, saying he was emailing everyone he thought should help, and sure enough, it showed up Thursday. So, I forgive them for dropping the ball initially.
The modem booted and got a DSL signal right away. I plugged in computers and an Airport (wireless router) and got to the internet. Later that night, my Airport stopped resolving an IP address through DHCP but a ten minute phone call to tech support solved the problem and had me up and running again.
So far, I'm happy to give my money to Linkline. You should consider it, too. The only way to get companies to give a crap about customer service is to punish them by getting superior service elsewhere and paying for it.

I had a linkline residential DSL line for several years until about 18 months ago. Setup was super easy, the internet connection was consistently up and if I did have a rare problem support was excellent in resolving the problem.
I disconnected my linkline DSL line about 18 months ago when my company began paying for a cable modem at my residence. The cable modem from Time Warner is no where near the reliability that Linkline DSL offers even though it's faster. I get dropped packets, missed pings and other slowdowns with the cable modem line. It's a mess compared to Linkline DSL.
Recently, not being totally happy with the cable modem line (even though it's free) I added a Linkline 768k/128k static ip dsl dry loop line as a failover internet line in case my cable modem should go down (as it does sometimes). (I use a dual wan router in failover mode with Linkline DSL as the backup line)
Having phone service from the cable company I placed a "dry loop" order with Linkline over the phone. The dry loop order unfortunatey became a real headach. First, they forgot to ship the modem. SO I called and told them. They immediately rectified by sending it overnight. Second when I called and placed the order for the dry loop no one from Linkline explained to me that since I didn't have Verizon phone service I would have to hook up my own jack. They neglected to tell me that Verizon was not responsible for coming in to my house and hooking up a corresponding rj-11 jack (to connect my modem to the dry loop DSL line). So, I kept calling Linkline complaining that I couldn't use my DSL on any of my jacks. They kept telling me that everything was fine. I didn't understand why we were having so much trouble communicating.
I couldn't get anyone to understand the issue until I spoke to Jeremy who informed me that I had to pay someone to come out and wire and connect one of my jacks in my house to the dry loop line. I wasn't told this when I placed my order, and was not pleased to hear this; but at least I now understood what to do. I called a local phone guy from Craigslist and two hrs later he showed up and hooked up my jack to the dry loop line outside for $50. I was up and running!
I did try to explain to the billing department that I shouldn't have to pay for the time that I wasn't using the service; (they charged me from the time that the line was active). Marcia credited me back for most of the lost time, although it took a few emails to get it straightened out.
Ever since then, the DSL internet connection has been bulletproof as Linkline has always provided me with excellent internet for years and years.
So, I would sum up as saying for a regular residential order where you have a telephone line already there; Linkline is awesome and the most reliable internet connection that I could ever ask for. Low ping times, constantly reliable speed and service.
However, for a dry loop install, be ready to do a lot more work and coordination with Linkline, the phone co and your local phone technician who may have to come out and hook up a jack so that you can use the service!

SDSL replaced dial-up at this location in 1999, with Zyan, which folded. I moved to ADSL with Inreach (largely good, though I moved my email when they dropped Postini in favor of a lesser spam filter). Inreach was bought by Nationwide (with associated service degradation), which recently sold a number of circuits (including mine) to Sitestar (don't get me started on this public company).
The short order-to-success time in my case summarizes what was a two-week chain of emails, calls and dedicated efforts to move service from a non-responsive provider to Linkline. Cable gets negative reviews by my neighbors, and Verizon continually fails to predict local availability for FIOS. While Linkline offers a wide range of services, I can only comment on my own experience, which is with their internet connection service and support.
I chose 3.0/768 bandwidth, which tests pretty well on a Saturday morning. Since my location was already live, Verizon simply had to turn on and test DSL. I was able to use my existing Netopia 2247 modem/router, which provides a menu of line configurations and diagnostics.
Firstly, I'm relieved that my internet service is going strong now. Secondly, I'm happy that Linkline's reps, from sales to support, were able to work their way through the challenges to get the line provisioned. Thirdly, I wish that other firms - small and large - would stop running ahead of themselves and concentrate, as this firm does, on providing a good product with solid support.
Lastly, the special part was not that my new provider does things right - we should expect competence from professionals, but that they were so responsive in getting it done. Highly recommended.

I got Linkline service about 2 years ago. I am just getting around to writing a review because I am thinking of leaving. I must say the connection has been reliable throughout the 2 years I have been a client. I had an issue with getting them to add a PTR to my static IP (bailed on it because $20 a month not worth it). I also moved my service from one address to another, was down for about 15 days (This was pretty much expected) My issue with the move was that I was charged $60 for the move AND I was charged for the FULL MONTH I was down!!! I would expect a credit for half the month, as would most SANE people. I called once to address the issue and spoke with a Marsha(sp?) she told me she would speak with the tech support department to verify and call me back, SHE NEVER DID and I NEVER RECIEVED a credit. I wasn't going to call again because its a waste of my time. So I have decided to look for another ISP. Again as far as a DSL provider goes they are fine, but I am really annoyed with not getting a credit for the month especially since they also charged me for doing the move itself!!!
UPDATE 1/6/2009
Looks like my review was responded to the same day it was written, I didn't check until yesterday. The person who commented below did actually respond and said he rectified the issue. i will check my bill and report back when I have a chance.
