    My Other Reviews·AT&T CallVantage
I am a refugee from Sunrocket and wanted a company that was name branded. I did not like the fact that after signup I got no additional emails from Eathlink. Even after making 3 calls to India, I still got no emails.

I will be changing to AT&T because of Tech Support. Costs is the same but I hear sound quality is even better.

I do not want to knock Eathlinks service. I think that it is top notch but the support needs to come back to the USA.

I have been with Earthlink TrueVoice since July of 06. Signed up when I received a flyer in the mail advertising $5 off the monthly rate if I also signed up for Earthlink cable internet service through my cable company Brighthouse. I was glad to dump Verizon DSL and their overpriced POTS service. I was even paying extra for web call management with Verizon which they call IOBI, but is included with TrueVoice. DSL was also having disconnection issues and they just kept replacing my router without sending a tech. Earthlink was also one of the few voip services that had call blocking features when I signed up. A Brighthouse tech installed Earthlink internet a few days before my TrueVoice equipment came in the mail without any issues.

I jumped in and ported my number without trying out voip first. Not the smartest thing, but I could not stand Verizon any longer. Anyway, I was lucky and number was ported on the day it was promised. I had echo problems at first and called tech support and adjusted some settings and that solved my problem. Voice quality has been excellent since. Website did not show incoming calls for a few weeks awhile back, but this nationwide problem was fixed.

TrueVoice charges another $5 a month for anonymous call blocking and a $10 hookup fee. Pretty steep considering it is included in many of the other voip services. I just do without it for now.

FIOS has just been installed here, and Verizon is pushing it aggressively. I am happy with what I have and really don't want the extra cable boxes I would need. The analog cable I have in our three bedrooms is good enough for us. Anyway, Verizon knocks on my door about once a week trying to get me to sign up. They ask how much I pay for phone service, and they admit I have a good deal when I tell them what I am paying. I am pleased with Brighthouse cable and their bundle package with Earthlink and will continue to chase the FIOS sales people away.

I ordered Earthlink trueVoice for $24.95 a month. The order and install process was average. A house that is setup up for all wireless phones makes the installation a little bit more of a hassle. The home equipment was an Aris modem that was put in place of the RCA modem.

VOIP quality is heavily dependent on your broadband provider, not just the VOIP provider so keep that in mind. For features and cost, Truevoice is one of the best deals around, and if you're already an Earthlink customer there's no reason I can think of to use a third-party service. Installation is easy and there was no need for any complex settings. What can I say? I plugged it in, set a couple things on my router, and got VOIP.

    Equipment used:

    Linksys WRT54G w/ Sveasoft Alchemy 1.0
    Linksys SPA2100 provided by Earthlink
    RCA DCM425 modem @ 6Mbps/512Kbps
Panasonic 5.8 Ghz cordless phone w/ additional 2 handsets.

NOTE: The instructions that came with the SPA2100 say to put the router behind the SIP, but this will hamper your downloads because of the SPA2100's "aggressive" QoS and will cause needless port forwarding hassles because of DHCP. I placed it behind the WRT54G instead, gave it a static IP and forwarded port 5060 to it. I haven't had any call problems this way and my speeds are as fast as before.

If you're thinking about VOIP and you have a good broadband connection don't procrastinate, it works! You'll save money and get more features.

    trueVoice pricing

Bundle Earthlink Cable & trueVoice phone service-and start saving!
    Special Offer Pricing:
Cable Internet Service: First 6 months at $29.95/month and $41.95/month thereafter. Add EarthLink trueVoice for $19.95/month ($5 savings per month over regular pricing)
I copied the above from Earthlink website. It has been up for several months.
Earthlink did not wait 6 months to start charging their regular price but started at day one...some promo!
I was also promised that my phone number would not be ported until after I was online with Earthlink, I even called again to confirm that the number would not be ported until my instillation and connection were established. Before my instillation even took place one night my landline went dead because Earthlink ported my number before I became a customer. Luckily I have a cell phone also and thankfully there were no emergencies.
