I had been with Commspeed for a number of years with very iffy service. My reviews of it are here. In the last two months their speeds had gone in the toilet again, and all their CS reps could do is ask me to be patient until they added new equipment/bandwidth. Meantime they are signing new customers up in droves with all sorts of freebie offers.

Enough is enough. Swift wireless is a fairly new outfit that uses Motorola Canopy equipment. No more finicky cable modems, POE cat5 straight from the roof to the Airport base station! Their installer hooked me up when he said he would, and then decided he didn't like my speeds. I'm paying for 512/512 with dynamic IP and tests were showing over 600 both ways. He said he wanted to come back with a different radio to point me at another tower and he'd be back in a day or two. "Right" I thought, "you'll be back after I've pissed and moaned enough." Sure enough, he came back two days later and hooked up the newer radio and now I'm consistently getting at least 1Mb down (often bursts of 2 or more!) and 7-800 up. I've sent an informational email to their CS to ask a fairly inconsequential question, and got a phone call right back from their sysops guy to personally answer my question. So far I am quite pleased. My only complaint right now would be to ask them to please consider getting an FTP server and offer 40 or 50mb of personal web space like most ISP's do. The owner tells me this may be in the future if enough folks request it.

Update: After 2 and a half years I am still fairly satisfied. Speeds vary considerably, but I am always getting well over the 512/512 I am paying for. My speakeasy test this morning was 2349/560. I have had zero equipment problems, and CS is always responsive regarding billing and any other issues. I've almost switched to the QWest 7mb package that's now available in my area, but have heard that it's not living up to it's purported speeds. I'll stick with Swift for the time being. I like the idea of keeping my money local whenever possible.
