Switched from Packet8 to T-Mobile when Packet8 kept raising rates and service was not getting any more reliable. For $10/month I received a new LinkSys router with two SIM card slots and unlimited minutes that do not count against my Family Plan. Have not had any T-Mobile outages. Router provides ability to use UMA phones over WiFi and avoid minutes usage as well.

This is a Review on the Peek Mobile Device »www.getpeek.com No Contracts, works internationally. They do have other versions of the device. It is a growing company and the possibilities are pretty sweet. 59.00 for the device itself and 19.00 a month or depending on where you purchase the device you can get a lifetime subscription for a price.

I have been using T-Mobile for 7 years and I tether all the time.

Started from basic GPRS, the speed is around 40-48kbps. Got EDGE update in mid 2006 and the speed used to be OK, but the time before 3G launch they suffered 2G network congestion due to lack of spectrum in NYC.

May 1st 2008, a change of history. I should be the first taste their 3G sweetness. Compare with other carriers, T-Mobile 3G is rather fast and reliable (only a few outages in these years).

Now they removed overage on webconnect plan and lower the price to $40 (with qualified plan; $50 without). After I signed up (I signed 2 years in order to get rocket stick) and made my t-mobile setup, I found the cap is 9.7GB, not 5. This is really good.

T-Mobile has HSPA+ turned on this week and got up to 7Mbps. Of course it only works with rocket stick because it exceeds the limit on most of HSPA devices.

So far I really like new webconnect plan, the performance is a lot better than smartphone internet even with same N900.

I have been with T-Mobile since I got a cell phone at 16 and have been with them for about 7 years. When I lived in New Orleans it was the best. Didn't have any major problem and figured I'd never have to leave.

That all change when I moved here to Tyler Tx. My phone was disconnected half the time. The first house I lived in was in the middle of the city inside the loop and I almost never had service there. When I spoke with tech support she said it was a green area and I should have signal. When I said that's probably based on tower reading not on the ground she assured me they have techs that do ground readings and it already factors the trees. (riiight) she said they would send someone out to test. I request that tech give me a call or knock on my door (since they have people on the ground) but she said they can't do that.

I have moved to two other places in the city with better home reception but around town it still sucked. Can't get signals in buildings here also. I've tried 3 different phones with same results.

Over all the company is pretty good if you live in a good service area. If you live in a poor service area you will probably have to switch like me. I'm on verizon now but and after 3 years I don't expect T-Mobile to move to quick in this area. When they get it running properly here I will switch back in a heartbeat though.

I have T-Mobile's flex-pay monthly with unlimited data & smart phone plan on my Nokia N900.

I ordered the service in a T-Mobile store because I did not need a phone with the flex-pay service, just a SIM card. The salesman there was more than happy to set me up as I already knew what I needed and just had to make my initial payment.

The coverage has been excellent, and data really is unlimited (I've never read about a 5GB cap nor have I had my service cut off). This is especially helpful on the N900 as it's a very data heavy phone, constantly pulling in new data via RSS, websites, Internet radio, bit torrent, etc...

For my needs - roaming around the New York City area and some other major cities - T-Mobile has been great. I've even been able to use it as an emergency ISP during the frequent Time Warner Cable downtime.

The only complaint I have is that 3G and 3.5G access speeds are burst only - you need to reconnect to the cell tower to maintain any semblance of faster-than-dialup speeds. So, for users that use their phones for tethering, you'll be knocked down to 2.5G and 2G speeds after your first burst transmission is done.

Not a huge problem, as the service really isn't advertised as a wireless ISP, but it's something to think about if you see the need for tethering in the future.

Overall, I'm happy with the service. I pay up front and get the service I want. In one particularly large usage month I pushed ~15GB of data over the phone, due mostly to ISP downtime. T-Mobile never complained or tried to cut me off.

If you're looking for a pre-paid cell phone carrier that actually offers you service instead of the gimped pre-pay garbage that Verizon and AT&T offer, T-Mobile's flex-pay is the way to go.

Been with T-Mobile since the days of Voicestream...very happy with the service and the coverage in the areas that I live and travel. Am on a loyalty plan that is simply fantastic and have added additional lines for much less money than I would normally pay.

3G data coverage is an obvious issue outside of metropolitan areas, although TMO is expanding their 3G footprint rapidly. But again, for me, I have all the service I need where I travel.

I ride the amtrak around 4 hours a day doing a roundtrip commute from sacramento to san francisco.

I write code on the train and connect to my work vpn via a 3g android tethered to my mac. PDAnet is the $30 app I use that is completely worth the price. Trial is free.
»junefabrics.com/android/mac.php

Darn good speeds really, and the price is only $24.99 per month over my family phone plan.

Occasionally it will drop to edge and in those cases I might lose vpn. It usually happens once per train ride or so, but it's very workable. Thanks to tmobile for allowing this on a non-rooted phone. I'm very happy with tmobile over att.

My Other Reviews

·Verizon Wireless..
I am currently on a even more plus plan, having upgraded to a nexusone. The plan is still pricey but with discounts available it can be made bearable. Speed on the 3G network is average for hsdpa service.

I have been a customer with T-mobile for about 5 years but this is my first smartphone so I waited to review them till now. My wife, oldest daughter and I share this plan. I waited several months for the new Blackberry Bold 9700(onyx/driftwood) to come out. My wife upgraded to a Samsung Gravity 2 Berry. Daughter has a Samsung Highlight Ice.

This is T-mobile's first 3G Blackberry. Lancaster Pa got 3G about a month before this phone came out, though coverage is not more than 30% and is expected to be fully upgraded in a few months. I have not tried the 3G yet but I will do some driving on the weekend of this review to test it out regionally. The wifi is outstanding for all net apps and is quite speedy. Edge is barely usable but serves it''s purpose. I had been asked to add the Hotspot @ home service(UMA) but declined when informed of having to use their special branded router to use the service. It uses a sim card and has to be bought to use the service. At $9.99 a month, the thought of unlimited calling from home on wifi is tempting.

The only gripe I have about the whole process of upgrading is that Customer Care via phone, the T-mobile website and the local Corporate store, all have different pricing on the phones themselves. They are actually competing with each other. I was told by the local senior store rep, that I should go over to Walmart to buy my daughters Samsung Highlight Ice. Store wanted $199.99 and bought it at Walmart for $44.44. This was this past August 09. I ended up calling Customer care and getting the best price for the phones without having to pay a cent upfront on any of the upgraded phones. Ask for a loyalty discount. Definitely shop around for phones. »www.wirefly.com/ and »www.letstalk.com/ are good resellers of cellphone service and generally beat everyone on prices.

The new Blackberry Bold 9700 is awesome and I am already addicted after a few days use. Battery life is outstanding and the new OS 5.0+ never has slowed down. T-mobile in my area has always been rock solid in my area/region. Head west in the Appalachian Mountains and ONLY Verizon will work. I have one dead spot in my area where I drop calls, but rarely drive in that 1 mile stretch in a valley. Customer service is great and they seem very eager to help you.

More info on the 3G service forthcoming...
