PLDT DSL SUCKS!

Being one of the original TelCos here in the Philippines, this company
has a virtual monopoly of the telecommunications industry. We have had
phone service with them for more than 20 years and when we got their DSL
service about 2 years ago, that's when I realized that there is very little consumers can do against these companies.

Here are some of the non-technical areas of development for this
company:

1. Provide stand alone DSL service to residential customers. I don't
need a bundled phone and data service. There are already two phones and
several mobile phones in the house, I do not need one more.
2. Their local business offices route their call to a SECURITY GUARD,
someone who absolutely has no idea about customer service or even the
company that they are working for. Why can't they afford to get a decent
receptionist to receive their customer's calls?
3. Their technical support is one big joke. The people there really
follow a script and do not even have an iota of technical knowledge. How
many times do I have to power cycle my modem and bypass my router, there
has to be more than that. They always find a convenient excuse not to
own the issue, (I.e., you did not pay your bill, your service recently
got restored and that's why you're having browsing issues, when clearly
it starts timing out when running something as basic as trace route.)
4. People who are sarcastic and rude, that's a big no no in customer
service.

The sad thing is, all I can do is gripe about it. I really don't have a
choice since the DSL service of some providers is very patchy in my
area. C'est la vie.

It took 9 months to get it now I got it it is slow apart from PLDT sites when I do a test on PLDT site I get 1.5Mbs when I do it anywhere else I get about 46Kbs.

They have the worst customer service I have ever come across even after a nine months wait it was not until I found the cell phone number of a director of the company and start to hound him I got it.

I have traveled to many countries in the world and I have to say this is the worst internet ever.

And now to top it all we are getting even slower internet because of a earthquake in Taiwan its been one month and they still will not give a date they expect it back to normal read more here »tohellwithitall1.blogspot.com/

As I was writing this it Just come on TV that it will not be back to normal until Feb 21st this will be nearly 2 months.

The Philippines National Telecommunications Commission has asked everyone that has no or slow connections to report it to them »www.ntc.gov.ph/ so they can make the companies involved charge you a lower rate. the email address is at the bottom of their page

I have the same problem.

PLDT is cheating it's customers by selling bandwidth they really don't have. Of course if you were a newbie you wouldn't actually discover it since they do give you a thick pipeline within their local servers giving you the impression that you are getting top speed. I did not get my dsl to browse local networks nor play locally hosted MMORPG's.

I suggest we all complain or switch to another service provider unless pldt gives us rebates for the speed we weren't getting afterwhich they fix their broken lines.

Maybe we should make them feel what we are feeling. I will start calling PLDT everyday (even multiple times a day) to complain. We do have a right to complain.

you're not alone.

i've had the same sentiments as you guys. first, the installer just installed the hardware and then left, second, you need to be an irate customer before you could get service, third, you call 'helpdesk' and they know nothing technical. fourth, they come to fix your problem after you threaten to disconnect your service. i just went with another ISP. want to get frustrated? get PLDT MyDSL. im a tech guy and i know if there is really a problem on how they setup a connection.

I agree

I completely agree with you. Though PLDT is one of the largest corporations in the Philippines their service and products are so off-par from the rest of the world. It's really sad that many of the leading companies within the Philippines are the same way too.

For my personal and corporate internet, I had already switched to Globe about 2 years ago. And though Globe is still not up to standards for product and service with the rest of Asia, they are far better than PLDT as far as my experience has been.

It's just too bad...3rd-world country, 3rd-world services. =(

Which Broadband is Better? PLDT or Globe?

I am very frustrated on what to choose between them. I've surf ed around and found out that many people hates PLDT. And others hate Globe.

Please email me on which is better or if there are better alternatives. tnx

Average to above average depending on how good you configure

well the subject says it all.i'd like to see reports concerning other providers' high end residential broadband speed than this though.technically, concerning connectivity in the phils, getting 10% of your advertised DL speed is quite good already. DSL signal also gets attenuated as distance increases. you guys should consider that before whining. and even the fastest connection wont do you any good if you have a poorly configured network/hardware that is, according to the standards of moore's law, obsolete or to say atleast, outdated. having such hardware will only result in bottlenecking or lost data packets or data corruption due to bad ram.

PLDT myDSL bandwidth issues

most of the problems with PLDT, is that they're selling bandwidth they really don't have. they are overloading they're hardware still they keep selling bandwidth they don't have. they put residential customers at last priority!
Tip: if u have another ISP in your area, don't use myDSL, or if your going 2 use PLDT service, just go for dialup.

PLDT is ok for me

We used to have the dial-up internet connection from PLDT and I must say from my own experience their dsl is waaaaaaay waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than their dial-up. I haven't really experienced any problem with my connection, err, nothing major that doesn't allow me to connect. Don't know why this is the case. Hehe.

Re: PLDT is ok for me

In 2007 you should not really be comparing it to dial up.
Interesting to see the 1.5mbs pack I signed up to has been reduced to 1.2mbs without informing the customers.
At the moment I am losing connection every 10 to 15 minutes for about 30 seconds. I complained about this before and they said they would fix it at their end. Did they fix it well they attempted it result was no Internet at all, took them 4 days to come and fix it.
So I have a choice put up with losing connection or complain and risk losing my Internet for 4 days again.
I have lived in many countries and this is the only one where it takes 4 days to repair your connection all the rest are same day and if it's more than 24 hours they refund you, PLDT still charges you.

PLDT do have a bad customer servive, I am currently paying 3,000pesos per month for 2.2 mbps and in all my speed tests I rarely ever get over 300kbps,unless you go to there pldt play site, I have rang them at least 30 times and I get the same message every time that they will report it and get back to me, they have rang me only once.

I would love to know if Globe can offer a better service or not as I would change!

Not really Nick, the miracle would be for PLDT to be honest. At your best speed you are still only getting slightly more than a third of what you are paying for, If you average your best and your worst you are getting half.
The miracle would be for them to say to you as we are not giving you the speed we should we will reduce your bill by a third.
I can honestly say if a Internet provider in the UK where I come from, acted in the way PLDT does it would be in court and ordered to refund all its customers. If this cost it so much it closed hard luck they should not con people.
There are some of the best Internet providers in the world waiting to move in to the Philippines and provide good high speed low cost services. Why are they not here? Philippine law prevents them.
It really is time this law was changed PLDT and their bad service is costing the Philippines millions of dollars in lost investment.
It is bad enough for home use try running a international business with the same poor Internet service.
I know of over 2000 jobs lost because the companies got sick of it and moved to other countries just so they got better Internet.

This is a recent speed test using the Plan 999 (512kbps upstream). just switched to using RASPPPOE for the dial-up.

It also helps if you're located about 1.2 miles away from the main office (using google earth's ruler function).
The tests has been very precise for me (they're all in a close cluster on the graph, both up and down speed).

i'd offer an interesting tidbit too: my bill has been lower for the past few months after a year of subscription (is this the reduction you're talking about or just the payment for the modem has passed?).

Plan 1995
and I was getting this today.
Bit of advice to you all print out all your tests when you pay your bill divide the speed you pay for by your average speed and do the same with your bill.
They have excepted mine for the last 2 months like this i.e last month I paid a third of my bill. I also took of 2 days I had no Internet.
There is no way they can do anything if you have a print out of your speed test you have proof they are not providing you with what you pay for. They won't take you to court because they know you have evidence against them and a lost court case would open the flood gates for every Internet user to make claims against them.

hello im an owner of a computer shop...

1. I have a contract from pldt and it stated there that im going to have a connection up to 2mbps. The worth of plan is 4000+12%tax pesos + phone 1.5k pesos = 5800 pesos(Contract includes free pc) lock in 2 years.. But usually with stand alone pc i only get 800kbps-1.6kbps, i nver reach connection 1.7mbps-2mbps.. The cost of upto1.6kbps is 3000+12% tax + phone 1.5k pesos.

2. The earthquake from taiwan cause me slow connection and even unuseable internet.. That was The PLDT says that there will be a 12% reduction/rebate from our bill. But its already 7 months ago since the earthquake and they havent deducted the bill.

3. My biggest problem and everyday problem is that since I started my internet cafe, my connection from pldt everyday is unstable, always disconnected from their internet I'm operating the shop for almost 9 months. I call center from pldt is almost 100+. The technician from pldt change my modem, check the lines(they said that theres a problem with their lines), their going to fix the lines. But still now my problem havent change.

- They havent fix it for 9 months and in the 9 months operations everyday disconnection.
-Everyday no slow downs 400kbps-1.5mbps
-No rebate - No bill reduction.
-I'm paying almost 6000 Pesos a month and the service is big headache for me.

Can someone help me to create a Formal Letter of Complain.
I want to terminate my connection from them. Please Help me.. my email address is stanelope@yahoo.com I hope someone can help my the letter is a great help just email me please stanelope@yahoo.com

i think slow connections and "dishonest" advertised speeds are the "norm" for our local ISPs. I switched from destiny to pldt dsl because destiny's cable internet really sucked! i couldn't connect, i couldn't even download properly. With the pldt dsl, i found things to be much better (though still not as good as what they advertised).

For an XCEL Account (2.2Mbps; not yet upgraded to 5Mbps),
this is my TOP speed (around 744 DL, 384 UL is my average):

The thing is, i think it may be true that they give us
that much bandwidth however due to our distance from US (or European etc.) based servers, obviously, our speeds really diminish. So, you cant really compare US ISPs to Phil ISPs.

Honestly, I think pldt dsl is just the same as (if not better than) other local ISPs. I've heard complaints about ZPDEE, DESTINY, Globe, etc. (btw, some people say Globe uses dynamic IP addresses, thus you can't download torrents; i'm not so sure if this is true though).

So, if ever someone finds a "trust worthy ISP" that gives fast DL/UL speeds, please post it here. I'd switch in a heartbeat! =)

There are times that I get a download speed of 540kilobytes/sec or about 4.2megabits/sec. Not too bad for 5mbits/sec account. Its a matter of making efficient use of the bandwidth. I use download accelerator for multiple connections and efficient download. Sometimes you can blame slow speed on the website itself.

Pldt DO not supply the speed that they indicate in their marketing of DSL accounts. I have never but rarely come up to the speed of plan 999. I agree in full regarding their costumer service and their profound insistence that nothing is wrong with their supply of broadband, when all I hear from others is, "something is wrong with PLDT DSL".
I can not get in touch with the technicians but is limited to this stupid CS that all they do is to say, we shall forward the matter, no excuse no nothing.
So what is wrong, simple its the PLDT and their product and so their overcharging for an item that is not up to par as per what they promise. I.E. false advertising and false billing. For me that is theft but of course, ONLY IN THE PHILIPPINES.

At last they have relaxed the stupid laws here that stated any Internet company must be 60% Filipino owned. It is a law was meant to protect Filipinos it did protect them if they were rich and were a director of PLDT, to the average person the law allowed PLDT to give bad service and nothing you could do about it, It allowed the rip offs and scams PLDT are well known for.
Welcome ZTE (that's pronounced ZED Tee EEY sorry it bugs me that you all say Zee for the letter Z when in the English language it is pronounced Zed Americans Pronounce it ZEE because they can't pronounce the Zed sound)any way welcome ZTE and the many others that can know follow.
The day is coming where you have a choice of about 20 providers all of them trying their hardest to win you over, low prices fast speeds (10 mbps and more will be the norm soon), repairs with in 4 hours, a dream is coming true.
Will it be the end of PLDT? That's up to them stay how they are and they will go down the drain give a good serve and they can still be the biggest Internet provider in the country. It happened in the UK British telecom had a monopoly then the foreign companies come in BT had to change and change fast, they told us they would lose money because they had to invest so much, did they loss money? no they made more every year, they teamed up with yahoo and they have been awarded best Internet company in the world 2 years running and are still getting better.
PLDT learn from this or die.
