Living in an apartment complex with no broadband access to most of the buildings, I had tried everything to get high speed internet. Cable, no service. DSL, too far. Wireless, no signal. Satellite, unreliable & restrictive. After researching it, I decided to give EVDO a try. I liked Sprint's plan and 30 day trial period. Ordered the hardware, (Novatel Ovation U270 $49.95 after discounts and rebates) and service on Monday afternoon. I received the package Wednesday evening and was connected and online with EVDO RevA In less than half an hour!

If you have looked at the Sprint coverage maps and find you are "just outside" the footprint for EVDO, give it a try anyway. You have 30 days to evaluate the service and still get a full refund. I live a little over a mile outside my "footprint" and consistently get a good quality signal. You can view my test results here...

    30 day trial...

How exactly do you get the 30 day trial? I don't see anything mentioned on Sprint's site other than a 2 year contract. Maybe i'm just blind.....

Just ask the sales person when you call. It is part of their standard policy. I couldn't find it on the website either, but, it is widely known throughout the evdo user forums and customer service confirmed it when I called to order.

Thanks, will do. Bout crapped myself when I saw I was already within coverage for EVDO Rev 0 on Sprint's site, but the same tower is also being upgraded to Rev A according to them as well. Unbelievable considering I live a good 15 miles from the nearest town and can barely get decent service from a local WISP.

To say i'm happy is an understatement, 5.26 miles (according to google earth) from the Rev 0 tower and i'm pulling 1200k, with a signal of -76 dBm. This tower is supposed to be updated to Rev A soon too.

"Awsome speeds even with 2 or three bars"
"Phone seens to loose connection no and again SAMSUNG V900"
"Awsome!!!! More so if you are out in the woods or travel"

Speeds are good with low service around 96k/100k thats with 2 bars on my cell. This has one little 10mb file you install and you are on your way. All you need is your phone and a usb or bluetooth connection.

You can get static IP's or PPPoE

Awsome...This is better the all the other cards I have tried.

My wife and I live in a remote location and we have had no access to any type of broadband. My mother, a Sprint employee, told me that she can get me the moble broadband for $30 instead of the normal $70 a month with no contract. At the time, the coverage map showed that I could only get the Rttx1 speeds (144) but those were still faster then the 56k on a good day.

Sprint shipped out the modem via next day air and after I setup the modem the first thing it needed to do was update the software. The 20 MB download took about an hour to get. While this does seem slow for a "broadband" connection the over all speed was 100k and the pings averaged at about 900ms but it never dropped so I was happy.

A week later, I could get no connection to the cell phone tower for about four hours. When it came back on I was surprised to find that my location had been upgraded to EVDO. For the last week I have had download speeds of 1200/100 and a ping time of 200 ms. I have been able to use my work's VPN and termnal server with no issues. Even if the cost was $70 a month like most people pay, I would be glad to pay it just to get away from dial up.

    My Other Reviews·SkyWay
I am getting between 600 and 900 kbps down on my G4 Powerbook using the
freebie Pantech PX500 EVDO rev A card.

I have been a user of two one-way satellite services, relying on a good outgoing phone connection. My local telephone service is horrible, so connections were hit and miss.

I am spoiled after only a few days of use. Click connect, you're connected. That's it. I think getting an external antenna will help my download speeds even more.

Plus, I don't have a giant satellite dish on my roof!

    My Other Reviews·Verizon FIOS
I have a Sprint PPC 6700 with the latest hacked AKU 3.3 on it. I have EV-DO Rev 0 service in Miami and think it's a great idea if you get the service with your phone. I recently tried to use the "phone as modem" option and think it's great. I usually get around 500k down and 90k up. If you cannot get DSL or cable modem and there is EV-DO service in your area consider getting the service from Sprint with a phone. The price to added the unlimited EV-DO option to my existing phone service was only 10 more a month. Quite worth it.

"Sprint’s on-line coverage maps are not up to date."

I was a WildBlue user for 16 months and had looked at EVDO but Sprint, Alltel and Verizon’s on-line maps said I could not get coverage. One Friday night while getting videos at a Blockbuster in town I noticed that they had a laptop with a sprint EVDO card in it. I thought this was interesting as Sprint’s maps said that coverage was not available even in town. The next morning I went to a sprint store and got the U720 USB modem. They assured me that I could return it and cancel within 30 days if I decided I didn’t want it.

Installation was a snap and I was up and running with a very, very good signal in about 5 minutes. Compared to WildBlue, browsing was lighting fast. Download and upload speeds are a little slower but are very consitant so, at the end of the day, I am downloading and uploading things just as fast as on WildBlue. While latency is high (~200 ms pings) it is much, much lower than WildBlue (~1100 ms).

After I was sure I was keeping the service I ordered the S720 from sprint.com (no stores within 50 miles carried it). I returned the U720 to the store and canceled that account and received a full refund minus 2 weeks of usage – trouble free return just as I was promised. I purchased the Kyocera KR-1 router and now share Sprint Mobile Broadband with 3 computers throughout my house.

I work from home as a software developer. I am on the Internet about 12 hours a day doing VPN, desktop sharing (GoToMeeting, WebEx) and general browsing and downloading. Sprint Mobile Broadband meets my needs just fine. I am very happy with it.

I was a huge fan of WildBlue and it served me well for the time I had it. Some complain about FAP and a firmware update in mid-November but I never had a problem with either of those things. My WildBlue connection was very solid. That being said, Sprint is $20.00/month cheaper and very fast – not to mention it’s mobile which I am looking forward to using when I travel.

I have the unlimited package for 59.99.
I went to the store and bought the USB card (so you can put it in a desktop too) took 15 minutes. Got home and was up and running in less then 20 minutes but they tell you the initial startup can take up to 4 hours mine was done in less then 5 minutes.
No huge hardware to go bad or install on your house like satellite. I am sold!
