February 2009 update: Still going strong. Upgraded to Sierra 595 about a year ago which supports EVDO Rev A. Coverage is quite good even in otherwise "fringe" areas. Speed/performance is excellent especially when in Rev A mode. Took a trip from NJ to SD, CO and back. Had service most of the way which was quite surprising, even had service in areas where my Verizon cell phone had difficulties making voice calls.
Good service for those situations where you're on-the-road and need connectivity. Had service most of entire trip to Florida from NJ along the interstates. Quite impressive overall!
I have the Novatel S620 card (non RevA). Speeds are frequently a tad over 1Mbps downstream when in an EVDO area with good signal. 1XRTT mode runs about 90-120kbps in bursts.
In some of the more remote areas we've travelled the service was not available. I understand that Sprint now has roaming agreements with other carriers outside their footprint so that may have improved. Will know more and be able to better evaluate next summer while RV'ing.
So far I'm pleased, though $60/mo may be a little pricey.

I ordered from 3gstore.com Great folks! No, I don't work for them. Nor do I own it.
I had it up and running the day I got it. Within minutes. The card was activated, etc. I also got a Cradlepoint MBR1000. Super router. Great options. Need manual though..
Had Wildblue and this is much better.

Got this service to get OL when I'm at work and traveling. So far it's worked 20 miles off the coast, works great in the Straits and Sound. I've tried it on both Mac and PC platform, runs fine. Since I'm already a Sprint customer, I should get a *cough* discount but it's not happening. Overall I'm satisfied-the service does what it is supposed to do.

I resell T-1 lines to some of my IT customers, and we use Sprint data cards with Kyocera routers as failover lines for the Ts. Between weather/copper neglect, copper theft, drunk drivers hitting telephone poles, major power outtages and what not, we needed some sort of failover for our T-1s. Since they upgraded to EVDO rev. A around here early 2008, my customers don't even notice when their Ts go down now. It's very fast and reliable.

Update:
This bummer of a slow economy has me sitting home from work today. So here's my take after not quite one year:
After falling from an old growth Post Oak (stupid rope swing; oh, wait, stupid me!), a nephew moved in to help out for a while while my two broken wrists healed. He uses a lot of bandwidth, compared to me.
Last month, between us we broke the "cap" by over 2 Gigs. Result: no noticeable difference, no extra billing cost, and no warning from Sprint. Everything still works great on my 802.11g home network, and the signal never drops. Sure, at times things seem a bit slower, but I've seen similar problems through every service I've used, whether mine or some one else's. Worked great last month on the road to "grandma's house" and I was having fun with it in the Hill Country finding back roads on my way home. Didn't have service everywhere, but I managed.
I gotta say, I'm still happy with the service. But maybe next year, I'll start researching ways to consolidate phone and ISP to bring down cost.
Original Review:
Look, this isn't roadrunner, but it ain't dial-up, either. From one way with dial-up out, through two modem changes, two domain name changes, I've been a satellite customer for eight years. Mostly my experience with the satellite service has been reliable with acceptable speed for browsing. But recently I've some problems with my modem that seemed to fix itself after a couple of days. So when support said that my DW6000 was obsolete and that a new contract would get me an upgrade, I went and spoke with my Sprint rep.
I was considering Internet America, or a local wireless alternative, but at $400 set-up, I wasn't ready for the change. With Sprint, the startup was only $100 and came with the 30 trial. That I can handle. And it works great.
I took it on the road yesterday, and it worked throughout the counties I traveled seamlessly. This morning I plugged it into my desktop, set the desktop as my ICS server, and am up and going on my 802.11g in minutes.
We had big storms here the night that I got the service. All power was out in the area. Clouds and no power would completely disable the Hughes service, but with the Sprint service, I was listening to local radio and watching the radar at the same time on my laptop. No problem.
Speed isn't DSL or cable, but for me, 500 down and 80 up is working just fine. AND NO FAP!
Thanks to all who posted before I changed. Y'all helped me make the leap. Most reviews are positive, and I agree. Just too bad it's not half the price.

We got this hen the reliability on our fixed wireless dropped through the basement. This has been reliable, but the is supposedly a cap of 5 GB per month, even though it appears to be a cap that's never enforced. It good enough for WoW, but not good enough for FPS games. We currently use the service with a Sierra Aircard and a Linksys router for PMCIA air cards. Multiple computers use the connection with little or no problem.

I was trying to buy a phone that i could tether and use as modem At the time the instinct was
about 60days from release and I was told that the 597u gps was latest and I decided to buy I was told that there wasn't a usage cap planed . I had one choice $60 before ins and taxes and
other fees contract 2yr. I plugged in usb and it did install in less than 5mins speeds are not great but I can connect any where i go. I regret that I can't connect to my other computer or my ps3.
I bought sprint instinct when it became available with the everything promise .Found that I could not use my computer to download and use any software for my instinct because they don't want
me to share my connection even with both devices with internet and I still can't use my ps3.
My service for both devices is $200.00 per month. Hoped that Sprint would allow me to consolidate service to one device but only solution was $200.00 cancellation and I am hanging in there with 256/143 average . As with usage cap is the rip off of dsl like the
bank bailout is the same as ordering no onion on that cheeseburger at the drive through, only to find that after you pay and rush back to work your cheeseburger with no onion wasn't in the bag,
with no time to go back and get what you paid for you eat you cold fries and hope the snack machine doesn't take the last buck you have for a snickers to get you through.Hey Telco where's the fiber we paid for in advance for years you promised congress.

| Review of Sprint I use the Sprint U727 mobile broadband USB card, and I love it. I never want to be tethered to cable again. There's nothing like being able to get on the Internet wherever and whenever you want. My video streaming works better with my U727 than with the cable service I used to have.
For rick30127, if you want to connect more than 1 computer using your Compass 597, you can get a router. Here's a link to some video reviews »moremobileinternet.com/video-reviews/ of some popular mobile broadband routers. You can use the router to connect to the PS3 also.

@spcsdns.net | Compass 597 CAN be networked same here. I use a cradlepoint router for my Compass 597 USB Modem. I have 2 computers, a PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS, PSP, PDA, and my laptop can connect to it anytime. Works great.

Sprint's BroadBand service is offered to me through my place of employment. I use a PPC-6700 (aka: HTC Apache) to tether my laptop to the internet and I have to say that their service is mediocre at best. Even when I am in the dead center of what they consider their best 3G coverage, I get sporadic service and my speeds fluctuate to pre 28.8k speeds to about 200kbps. The same is to be said of the internet service on the handheld itself.
When I have had to contact Sprint with issues, each and every time I call in I get to an outsourced call center, where the CSRs are nearly not understandable and can hardly understand plain English.
I have and always will stay away from Sprint, but since the company I work for uses them for data services, for now I am stuck using them in certain circumstances. If you have a choice, choose another carrier and don't chose Sprint.

I have had Sprint EVDO for 2 years now and is/was GREAT. I live out in the sticks but just happen to have a tower about a quarter mile from so I get great service. Its my only option so I have been loving it. AND THEN THEY started the 5 gig CAP CRAP. Please Sprint I NEED more at least 10 gigs.
