As-good-as-it-gets speed for dialup
High latency, needs to dial, requires a second phone line for any usefulness, very slow download speed, session limits
It's dialup, after all.

Well, it's dialup, what can I say? It gets about as fast of speed as you can get with dialup (53k), and its affordable at $10/month.

The session limits are extremely annoying if you want to use the connection for a long time (They cut me off every 4 hours).

But if you have no other options besides satellite, get it. I choose it over the so-called "Satellite DSL" haha.

PeoplePc is as bad as they come!

I was an EV1 customer who got bought by PeoplePC. When I got their CD
to install, I followed all the instructions, but found I had to
constantly reboot my computer to "align" the files properly to have my
dial up work. They say the number you call is the fastest available in
your area for a list you select of local numbers to call, but when you
are signed in, the files or downloads either don't connect or don't load
very well. Several times I had to cancel my download, reboot my
computer, re-sign in, and do it all over again! I canceled the service
as quickly as I could.

Dial-up is DSL?

How did this happen to appear as DSL? Also People PC is part of Earthlink.

peoplepc

I scraped the software, don't like anyone telling me i have to have a home page running to keep a connection. just get your local connections numbers, and set up standard dial up networking, that is how I have been running mine for the last couple years, works well

Re: peoplepc

i hate peoplePC. it took me five months to cancel. you must get a cancellation number. because they will continue to charge your credit card as long as they can get away with. i called four times to cancel it doesn't take until your are really clear. i want to cancel. well, people pc can still provide you with email services. NOOOOOO! i hate companies that make it hard to cancel. this is very bad business.

and try getting a refund. do i have five hours to commit to maybe getting $40 back. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

PeoplePC Rip Off

I was with ev1 dial up for a few years. Never had a problem with them. Before they switched over to PeoplePC they sent me a opt out notice. I opted out and changed to ATT high speed. That was back in October. I checked my card statement and People PC has been charging me for service I never received. I called their support several time and was put on hold. When I finally got thru they canceled my service but no refund for the pass months. PeoplePC SUCKS! If you got ripped off by PeoplePC email me at:

PeoplePC@onestopscripts.com

If I get enough response I will setup a PeoplePC Scam website and post the problems online.

PeoplePC rip-off by continued EV1 charging

So was I with ev1 dial up for a few years, and neither did I ever have a problem with them. Would that I had opted out and changed to ATT high speed when PeoplePC took over, because ever since the November switchover I have been getting charges to both ev1 and PPC every month, and cannot get it stopped, much less refunded.

I, too, have now gone to AT&T DSL, but the PPC rip-off continues -- and I actually do have a cancellation confirmation number, which doesn't seem to make any difference at all. Repeated calling is pointless because the crooks at PPC Corporate have cleverly arranged so that you cannot actually talk to anyone with any power &/o authority, you can only get a fax number which seems to be habitually ignored.

My advice is to get out from under the PPC cloud as quickly as possible, so you can start the interminable termination process ("process", hah!) as soon as you can.

Peoplepc nightmare

I have had dial up with peoplepc for 2 years. Outside of connection issues occasionally, it was OK. A few weeks ago I upgraded to Peoplepc DSL which just came available in my area. I got the equipment and hooked it up correctly. The first night I spent 4 hours with technical support and couldn't get it to work. The second day I spent 8 hours with technical support. Talked to 6 people. 4 hung up on me. ( I was not vulgar) The other 2 calls got disconnected. The DSL never worked. They sent me another modem. 7 more hours on the phone. 2 people hung up on me. Still it didn't work. The next employee would NOT let me talk to a supervisor. I then cancelled all my PPC accounts. I received 1 shipping label to send one modem back. (You have 30 days after you ask for the service to get all the equipment back to peoplepc or they will charge you $149.00 for an early termination fee and $69.99 for each modem) The customer service rep over a week ago said he has no record of the second modem so don't worry about it. I called the next day to make sure. This clerk said I would be charged and he would send me a label. I still don't have it. Yesterday I got another modem sitting on my front porch. Now I have 2 again. The customer service clerk today said I will get a shipping label soon. He said he couldn't' guarantee I would get it before the 30 days are up. I guess I will lose about $300.00 for -0- service. Don't walk away from this company....RUN AWAY. Check with Oakland,CA BBB and look at the 1000's of complaints. 1000's!
