Simply put Flashcom is fine after the TELCO and CLEC stop messing with you. Once installed use DSL REPORTS to tweak your settings to get the most out of your connections. Then forget it.

Oh, BTW, get a firewall Immediatly. Do not pass go, do not browse the web, get one ASAP.

I have 144/144 idsl at 39.95/month. Ordering was simple but I was provided with false promises, misinformation and charges that have yet to be refunded. I have a flowpoint (now Efficient networks) bridge with static IP addresses.

To their credit, Flashcom/Covad was my third effort at getting DSL to my home office. They ultimately succeded where others could not. However, the overall experience took eleven (11) months. I gave up ranting and expecting to actually ever get DSL and got an ISDN line in the mean time. I've kept my ISDN line and MSN ISP account since receiving iDSL as a precaution. You never know what's gunna happen next (Flashcom in Chapter 11 perhaps...?) Covad being acquired by... Rhythms? Vice versa?

    JJ

Id just like to take a minute to tell you how disgusted I am with the
Customer Service at Flashcom. #1- If they are busy, you just get
disconnected, I have been trying for 2 weeks to get a hold of someone. #2 -
They have changed it to where if your install was done by Covad, you have to
call a local number to get a hold of anyone, essentially, youre paying to be on hold. Also, they advertised 24 hour
tech support, not so. I came to quickly find out that they don't even open
till 9 am (lazy too). That was the main reason that I signed up with them
was the availability of customer support when I needed it. Now they have new
hours posted which aren't even followed. There is a spot to email the
president of the company on their site, but don't even try to use it, I
haven't heard a single peep of a response from them. The connectivity is
good, I have not been down yet, but the service itself is really really bad.
Don't do it if you don't have to. Take my word for it.

Flashcom is no longer receiving new accounts, per the phone message on their main number. Checking their website, the only thing you can click on is the user alert and the "Support" link.

Not surprised - this is a company whose sales staff told me they'll support any operating system that will support "something called TCP/IP".

I've been with Flashcom for over a year now. I'm stuck on a two year plan (installation and everything was free - at the time, no one was giving free installations/bridges - they wanted $400 up front) at $49.99 at 394/144. Speed has been ok, but the original equipment went out once, they gave me a Cisco router (), but they stopped billing me about 4 months ago. I've been trying to call them, but no matter what time you call, you get "No one can help you now" and they hang up. Even if you get in the queue, after about 8 minutes or so - boom! "We're too busy, try later." Click!. And I'm trying to give them money (if they want it). WHAT's GOING ON? They sold off all of their Rhythm/Northpoint business. Who's heard they're going under, and from where? Im stuck here at fifty bucks a month for another year!

I was with Flashcom for 11 months. During that time I only epxerienced 2 outtages and one billing problem. For both of these problems, customer service was non-existant. There was no way to get a human during the weekend even though their website and my contract said CS is 24/7.

Now I hear they are going under and I'm switching to Telocity. Going to have to buy a new modem which sucks but the price is the same and the speed is supposed to be the same.

Service was great once it got installed...installation took about 3 months from time of order. Lately service has sucked. Repeated outages. I personally spent 1 full week trying to get through to customer service only to be put on hold for 2+ mintues, then disconnected, _consistently_ 47 times...of course...those were the only times I got "through" the voice system. The rest disconnected me right away.

Back in November I actually got through to them and requested if they could provide service out in Naperville since I was moving there. They took the address and said no problem. I had to move into this apartment complex because it was the closest to the switch and could get me full download speed. Today, after having to resort to emailing the "president" of flashcom I am informed they cannot support my move at the end of the month. They never paid their COVAD bill and COVAD isn't doing any more installations for them. In my estimate, this company is about 30 days from being out of business.

    Don't spend your money here!

I think everything pertinent has been said about this low-life company.
    Good riddance!

I would imagine working there must have been hellacious.
